EA Announce Skate 3

EA Announce Skate 3
Written Tuesday, September 15, 2009 by Alan Pettit

15th September, 2009 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today revealed the next title in the company’s landmark skateboarding franchise: SKATE 3, and confirmed that it will ship in May 2010. SKATE 3 breaks new ground by taking all of the camaraderie and competitive excitement of real-life skateboarding and brings it to the hands of gamers. Whether online or offline, players can now team up to build the ultimate skate crew in the definitive skateboarding co-op experience. In SKATE 3, players take part in team-based challenges, compete against rival crews and leave their mark on the all-new skater’s paradise, Port Carverton.

“The social and community aspects of the SKATE franchise are something we’ve always embraced, but we’ve never done anything to the scale you’re going to see in SKATE 3,” said Senior Producer, Jason DeLong. “We’re giving gamers a very unique experience by providing them with the tools they need to build their ultimate team or to create a team comprised entirely of their online friends. From there, it’s all about proving yourself – teaming up, and throwing down.”

Players who pre-order SKATE 3 get an unlock code that gives them exclusive access to the iconic Black Box Distribution Skate Park, home turf of Zero, Mystery, and Fallen skate teams. Black Box Distribution was founded in 2000 by Jamie Thomas, and houses and distributes some of skateboarding’s biggest selling brands .

SKATE 3 features an all-new co-op mode where teammates can complete challenges together while advancing each other’s careers. From rewarding epic bails and fails with a beefed up Hall of Meat mode to honing your craft with the all-new skate.School, players of all skill levels have multiple ways to “kill it” in the game. The franchise also continues to raise the bar for user created content with the skate.Create feature suite, an innovative toolset that empowers gamers to truly express their skate style by creating their own graphics, videos, and skate parks.

SKATE 3 is being developed by Black Box, an Electronic Arts studio. SKATE 3 will be released on PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system in May 2010.

Yeah, good news. I noticed that they changed the way of writing the game from "skate." to "SKATE". Not a big deal though.

Only just purchased Skate 2 a couple of days ago so this is an interesting revelation.

Is Skate the new member of the "annual release with one shiny new bell" marketing strategy?

I guess time will have to tell

is it just me, or does that not look so realistic. The characters. Anyways, ive never understood what makes the skate series so great compared to all the other games because when i tried the demo it was extremely hard. But i guess the public love the game, and ill just see how this turns out.

The only surprise here is that its May, not January. Great news though, I felt since number 1 they should have had a more coop aspect to it.
Does look a little more....animated, but its only a teaser.

Already? wow EA is beastly but in a bad way! I mean come on this company is milking the people for their money... They are just banging out games left and right. All though all the 2010 titles (Madden,NBA,NHL etc.) are looking pretty good. lol

@47 Whats wrong with that? If i want to buy a Skate every year thats up to me, no one is making me, and just because it gets released also doesn't make me buy it. Just as long as the game is still a high quality product then I'd rather it be released in 2010 than 2011, why wait!

Yeah, a new Tony Hawk game! This is going to be so fun and innovative! They should have released this on the GameCube too!

(Please note: I'm being sarcastic. This genre is almost as bad as music/rhythm)

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 @ 05:10:43 PM

@33

So, you didn't like it because it was hard? Tsk tsk, all games have learning curves, some steeper than others. I played the skate. demo to death when it first came out, so I was actually pretty darn good at it.

Great news. Some things that I noticed were the darkslides and the underflips, which is pretty sweet. But, how will these tricks go into the analog sticks? It's pretty convoluted already, but they'll probably manage. What is Port Carverton a mix of, though? It's great that we're getting an entirely new environment to skate in because San Van was getting old.

@57, did you just say a new Tony Hawk game? It's a different franchise, and tony hawk is coming out with the new one that uses a board.

This seems like it might be one of those sequels that tries to do something new with the series and fails. Hopefully it doesn't do that, and it will actually please everyone (if possible, i'm looking at you guys that

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 @ 10:03:22 PM

hopefully they bring back stuff from skate 1! I'd love to see Regs come back, the Subways, the old Mega Compound, X-Games, more spots to skate in career other then selected big places and no more teleporting around... skate gave players the real edge of skateboarding then skate 2 did but hopefully skate 3 can break it this year and beat tony hawk since with that skateboard tony hawk has, it's going to be a competition now

Tony Hawk is dead to me now.

Skate1 killed the TH franchise dead.
Skate2 was one of the finest games I've ever played.

tony hawk fell down hard, skate took over. TH RIDE probably will be good, but way too pricey. its like theyre one-upping skate, but really, they just need to make a good game like THUG was. doesnt have to be revolutionary like Skate controls, just GOOD!

i used to buy all of them. after american wasteland... i couldnt take it.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
