"There is speculation that the next game could be based in Skyrim. The name has been trademarked by Bethesda, which could indicate that there is an upcoming game called Skyrim, as there was for Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles. A simple search at the US Trademark Website reveals four applications for Skyrim as a Trademark, three from Bethesda, and one from a telecommunications company in Florida. | I just jumped back into Oblivion after not playing for nearly a year and I'm glued to it again. I rented it and returned it last summer. Decided to buy the GOTY edition and realized that was a smart move. Love this game. |

So thats no ES game soon, so that could mean a good 18 months to 2 years away, which would be in keeping with my personal supposed time frame based on the turn around period on the previous ES titles (Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind and Oblivion. Others such as Battlespire and Redguard, whilst they ARE set in that universe, are NOT Elder Scrolls games).
Of course it could be a much longer wait than 18 months to 2 years, but I doubt it. I DO expect them to take extra care to make sure the next ES game is polished and up to spec, they received a lot of grief on their forums from dissatisfied players when Oblivion was released for al lot of the design choices they made, and bugs they overlooked.
Personally I wasn't bothered, but I do expect them to pay due diligence on these areas this tim |

@27, Oblivion was far easier to say than 'The Elder Scrolls 4' so generally TES is referred to as Oblivion. plus it sounds cool.

For gods sake people. Bethesda are not focusing on Fallout 3, due to Mothership Zeta being its last DLC, and yes I know they've said that before but you can tell from MZ that they're really struggling for ideas.
As for New Vegas, many people have already pointed out that Bethesda will not be making it, hopefully it actually turns out good. I enjoyed Fallout 3, but Fallout 1 and 2 will always be the best for me.
And Oblivion was brilliant, you just got to realize that Oblivion was a huge game, and if Bethesda expect to make a better game they need the same size or bigger but with more variety in the dungeons. Once you've seen on Aeylid ruin and cave, you've seen them all.

| I've only played III and IV, and I've got to say, Oblivion sucked compared to Morrowind. TES III was the shit. I played that game for days on end, downloading plug-ins and replaying the game as all the races...TES V should have more of a III vibe. IV was good, but it was way too short. |

all squabbling aside, i will say that Elder Scrolls is the only non-RTS game i prefer to play on PC.
the xbox/360 versions were fun to play, but the glory of the series for me is the modding community. Morrowind had mods that added essentially all the "new" features of Oblivion before Oblivion hit the market.
i know it's technically not legal and all that jazz, but seriously... if you have played these games on console, you really owe it to yourself to try the PC versions.
