Modern Warfare 2 £55 in the UK? Not at Tesco Direct

Modern Warfare 2 £55 in the UK? Not at Tesco Direct
Written Tuesday, August 11, 2009 by Dan Webb

Every once in a while I like to slip into thrifty saver mode and make everyone aware of a potential bargain that can't be missed.

This week's bargain comes courtesy of Tesco Direct who seem to have taken the £55 recommended retail price of Modern Warfare 2 in the UK and thrown it own the window. Instead, the giant supermarket chain have slapped a £36 price tag on it, including delivery.

Now when you consider that most e-tailers are listing the price at £45 in the UK (except for ShopTo.net where it is listed at £43), then how can you say no to £36? You'll just have to excuse the archaic checkout system at the site which doesn't take the "20% preorder discount" and delivery off until right at the last minute.

[Thanks Adam]

@6 they take the delivery cost off at the end, so its definitely £36 all in.

Will get flamed for saying it, but also noticed they have Uncharted 2 for £31, not bad!

£45-55 for a game with nothing else is a pisstake. This is a nice find and I know Tesco will shift a lot of units but I won't be bothering as this reeks.I'll just wait till 2 weeks after when one of the other stores has it for a more sensible £35.It's a shame that the COD makers felt the need to plump for such a high RRP.

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 @ 09:48:55 AM

lol im with post 26 this is old news i knew this like 2 weeks ago. i also made a thread about prestige edition sold out in the uk then 2 weeks later they post about it in the news bit lol.

and NOWERE WILL SELL THE GAME FOR £55 the most it will be is 50. also you dont need to pre order it as you will be able to go in any shop and buy it on release day without pre ordering i did that with gta.

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 @ 09:49:00 AM

@ #20
Yes and the delivery charge is also taking off at the end.

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 @ 09:52:17 AM

Its not £55 in the UK! Thats the RRP which is never ever what shops sell the game at. The standard RRP for games is £50, yet they sell for £40 or less.

So expect to see some competition. Rather pay an extra fiver to make sure its there on day of release. If they sell it for that price in the supermarket themselves then i'll be down there at midnight and taking the day off uni ;)

Il stick with shop-to then im guaranteed release day delivery at least

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 @ 10:24:21 AM

I cant see anywhere on tescos site where it says delivery is not guaranteed on release day. only This item will be delivered as soon as it is available, which does not mean they will recieve it a few days early, and ship it out like most places a day before the release.

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 @ 10:27:08 AM

You UK nutters still pay too much for games. But I guess anything under 40BPS is pretty good. I about choked when I saw the prices at "GAME" in Reading (England). My poor lil' U.S. heart couldn't take the sticker shock. Of course, that was nothing compared to the price of a console...geesh..

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 @ 10:28:15 AM

I'm not paying £55 pounds for it. As good as the game is and the reputation it has it's nothing special from the majority of great games out there.

i notice how nobody has yet mentioned that yeah retailis £55 but no shop will sell it fo more than £45 as the rrp of games is £50 at moment and they sell for £40 so its only £5 increase and i remember Call of Duty world at war being £45 in most shops once it got popular so where is the difference?

no matter how bad i want a game, i'll never pay more than 25 quid for one. I know thats pretty stingy cos most games are worth 40 odd quid anyway, but i dont get as much time to play as i used to :(

I really do feel terrible that the price hike was so severe in the UK. I hope that this is not a regular occurrence, and that they keep the normal price for games after this.

That being said, I've already pre-ordered the hardened edition here in America, which costs $80, instead of the traditional $70 for any "Special Edition" game.
