Funny how Guitar Hero 5 can't compete with a band-themed game.

| I heard a rumor that the next playable character is going to be Matthew Belamy of Muse. I read this on a website that guessed the full setlist correctly, and that Shirley Manson, and Johnny Cash would be playable, so i am hoping that it is more than just a rumor. |

Well, considering that Guitar Hero has been out longer than Rock Band has, it kind of makes sense.
Rock Band was first introduced in 2007, while Guitar Hero's first game was released in 2005. It's pretty much common sense that the game that was released earlier is going to spawn more sequels than one that was released later. Think, man, think!

| @16 isn't the goal of any company to make money? If you run a company and your losing money supporting one platform, I guess you would just keep losing money? Activision knows what they are doing considering they are one of the few game companies to make money the last 4 quarters. what happend to guitar hero the music sucks in these new ones except for GH:M and GH:VH activision has gone so mainstream what happend to iron maiden, disturbed, anthrax, black sabbath they need to put better bands in i mean ok sure the odd indie band is ok but most of the songs are indie.
In my opinion it needs more Metal......oh well rock band might be on the horizon for me.

If Cash was alive, it's unlikely that he'd allow himself to be in it, but the rights to his likeness have passed on to his next of kin (or the record label; not sure). I like the move. A lot of the younger gamers will not care, but it's cool.
Yes, this GH is shaping up to be one of the best, and I really like the avatar support, but Rock Band has earned my respect in so many ways that GH 5 (also known as GH 10) is too little, too late. |

It isn't sad, it's business. And rock band has LEGO rock band on the way (Possibly the biggest sell-out ever IMHO)
If the cash cow's milk is still selling then they will milk it until it's dry.
The song choice is annoying because it won't appeal to actual Johnny Cash fans (Come on, Ring of Fire! Where's Folsom Prison Blues or a Boy Named Sue?? :D)
That song has been picked because more people know of it than Johnny Cash himself and it will appeal to all these 'Look I have class' music wannabes.
But like I said the milk is still very popular and unfortunately most of the people who buy these games are not real fans of music or videogames tbh.
That's just my opinion anyways :)

I've never purchased any of these music games, but have often been interested. Could someone give me a realistic explanation of the difference between GH and Rock Band? (Just saying GH sucks more "because it does" doesn't help me, and does nothing to prove your point).
I know some people (including my friends) complain about the lack of metal, or amount of mainstream stuff (No Doubt comes to mind), but it seems like both games suffer from this, so where's the favoritism coming from? |

@36, sorry to double-post, but all of those characters were chosen for their impact, skill, or fame in the guitar world (and because any other names probably don't want to be featured in the game, or haven't worked daels out yet). At the end of the day, it's called "Guitar Hero", not "only people that I like from bands that I listen to" (if that was the case I'd say get GZA in here, lol)
Also, what's up with the J. Cash hate? If you think it's in bad taste, why's no one complaining about Hendrix? And if you think HE'S not worthy, then who is? |

@#41: The differences are whether you prefer circles (GH) or rectangles (RB).
RB has supported it's game post-launch by releasing DLC weekly, adding up to a whopping 700+ total available to play (IF you have the money to spend on absolutely every DLC song...).
GH has (for GHWT) supported the game with weekly DLC, though it's often considerably less per-week than RB has. GH has also been releasing many games on-disc (which I personally prefer as it's MUCH cheaper than buying DLC individually and can expose me to new music I may like). The game has open notes for the Bass, and has begun to chart double bass on Drums.
Both franchises are great in my opinion, which is why I support both disc releases as well as DLC. |

Its not that I don't understand business. Its that I don't approve of their methods which is basically wrapping a noose around Sony's neck and saying do what we say (cut the George Foreman Grill's price by $100 which would mean that it would cost Sony $50 dollars for you to buy their console) or we cut production on 40% of the games released on your console so excuse me for disagreeing with hardball methods of making money.

Rockband is a one-off party game.
Guitar Hero is a classic. The songs are fresh and play spectacularly, and activision actually listens to what the fans of the game want, not just what the big record labels want to shove down everyone's throat.
When was the last time rock band gave out excellent songs for FREE?!
It doesn't happen. People bitch about watered down GH games when you can get 50+ songs for less than $40 or $50 for the newest titles, when rock band is $2 a song. Do the math you fanboys, Guitar Hero is the stronger series for people who actually play through these games. Always will be.
GH 5 will set the bar, like the series always has.

| I bought GH5 BECAUSE of Johnny Cash! I have a very short list of musicians that I see as being originals, this game contains 2 of them as playable characters. Kurt Cobain and the great Johnny Cash. |
