This is usless. In Romania we don't have acces to netflix, 1 vs 100 and about 75% of XBL. So I don't care...stupid update.

As long as they work on speeding up the Pop-up dashboard (when you hit your Xbox button), I'll be pleased. There's nothing more agonizing than waiting 60 seconds + just to send a voice message while in the meantime the next round or match has started w/o you.

Wednesday, August 05, 2009 @ 08:36:04 AM

@13 Well, look at it this way, Xbox originals were all $15 USD, even when the retail prices for certain games, like Halo: CE, sold for less than that new in stores, if you could find them. A majority of the XBO titles could also be bought cheaper used, at least from stores around here, so I would expect a majority of the On Demand titles to probably range from $20-$30 (as most of those games are Platinum Hits) despite that fact that I could go to GameStop and buy say...Perfect Dark for $7.99.

@10: I've been in the preview for a week now and the menus, guide button and marketplace are all much faster... which was what I was looking forward to the most as well. Those are the only "worthwhile" improvements.

Netflix update is also great, but since no one outside the U.S. gets it, it's pretty much useless to the majority of users.

It's going to end up being more options to spend more money. I mean come on, you give us 1 vs 100 for months and then make us pay for a "season pass". 360 is the only console that makes you pay for online play and honestly they should be giving us a little bit more instead of making us pay for every little tiny thing you want to do on it. Now you can download all these full games and take up more space on your hard drive so that you eventually need to go out and buy a bigger one. I'm suprised you don't have to pay for your avatar too. But 360 is the best console out right now in my opinion so I guess I'll keep reaching into my pocket for now.

Those discussing price of the Games on Demand service ... Take this as a benchmark maybe, but BioWare stated the other day that Mass Effect was going up for $20. Amazing price in my opinion.

They will probably just match the recommended retail price, which is bad. I mean I can get Assassins Creed new for 27 Euros at Amazon and they will prob. sell it for 30. So Disc version which I could sell or lend away for less than a digital copy.

Pretty lame

lower the prices of the avatar content, its dreadful.
games on demand is a 50/50 thing to me, you can get some really cheap ones now, all are prices in pounds, and from my local gamestation. mircosoft will need to give us really cheap games in order to beat the preowned factor.

Assassin's Creed (Ubisoft) 12.99 or 2 for 20
Burnout Paradise (EA) 12.99 or 2 for 20
Call of Duty® 2 (Activision) 12.99 or 2 for 20

For the 'Games on Demand'. Does this mean we can play the full game through it, without having the game? And will it be fully functioning, like we can save our game and come back to it later? And more importantly, can we get achievements off them? :)

It seems like a good update, but I fear a lot of the new features will die out because hhardly anyone uses them. Game On Demand? We can all find games cheaper than what the prices will be like on here for sure, so I predict that will die out in 6 months time, just like the Xbox Originals idea. Avatar clothes is a good idea, but they will be overpriced, and so, hardly anyone will buy them, or most people will buy one or two items and never buy another ever again.

You really do have to give Microsoft 10 out of 10 for supporting Live. Every single update has improved the platform in a major way and by the sounds of it they have plenty in the pipeline. Without wanting to sound like a MS Fanboy, it's almost as if they can do no wrong.

2.price?

3.kinda sucks because if u buy those games used at gamestop you can return them.but im sure they wouldnt.

4.that should be in the update if u dont like the DLC, in the next 12 hours u should be able to get a refund.

great stuff here IMO. I already bought my Halo3 shirt (80 MS points) I had 90 left so I just used it for the hell of it.

MEH
All I hope is that they have fixxed the game library tab. As when I either put the 360 on, or end 1 arcade game to boot up another since NXE it takes from 5- 30 minutes to reload the list. GAHHH that p*ss*s me off so much.
It is quicker to go into games market place, find the game and boot it from there.

Wednesday, August 05, 2009 @ 10:28:37 AM

If the full games are only $20, and all my DLC works I will be buying BURNOUT , as that is pretty much my goto game, when I do not really feel like playing a game, but want to do something. So I would like not to have to bother to put a disc in lol.
I hope these boot whilst off of live like ARCADE games do. But I bet that they will be like COMMUNITY/ INDIE games and need you to be signed into live to boot.
If that is the case I will not buy any, as my 360 travels with me, and often it is played in places where there is no broadband( this is what stops me buying COMMUNITY/ INDIE games).
Heck my 360 is my arcade I have at least demos of every ARCADE and COMMUNITY/ INDIE game ever offered on the service

Mostly pathetic! games on demand is a joke cause i can still get my hard copied games way cheaper than what they will sell them without killing my hdd space. If they charge money for avatar clothes that is just BS....Microsoft is just getting greedier and more distasteful as they progress and it is really turning me away from the 360 they charge for eveything and it's just pathetic.I have a wii and a ps3 here that are FREE with everything but some dlc and they are way more reasonable without ripping the gamers off,hey MS get a clue.

The reason they are doing the 360 games on demand is to keep up with sony. right now you can buy i think 5 or more Full Ps3 games on the Playstation store. 2 of which are socom and burnout. and trine is coming soon i heard.

I'm in the preview of the new Dashboard Update. And one of the feauters is went you install the games on your hard-drive. There's a little reduction on the space that the games occupied.For example;

1. Fallout 3- 5.9GB to 5.5GB = 0.4GB
2. Gears Of War- 6.5GB to 6.3GB = 0.2GB
3. Gears of War 2- 6.7GB to 6.3GB = 0.4GB
4. Just Cause- 5.6GB to 5.4GB = 0.2GB
5. Oblivion- 6.7GB to 5.9GB = 0.8GB

31.4GB to 29.4GB
(savings of 2 GB)

What I really want is the ability to RENT games on demand. So if I feel like trying out a certain game before I buy it, I can! Buying it on demand just doesnt seem like something I would do unless maybe I was trapped in the house during a blizzard.

im only interested in last.fm (since i heard it was free)
the avatar clothing and items sound interesting. hope they are cheap. i wouldnt mind getting a master chief helmet or a lancer but the thing is that soooo many ppl will have that stuff and i wont look unique. thats why the really good stuff should be earned by completing those specific games and getting certain if not all the achievements for them. that way only the really hardcore fans of that game that play it will be able to show off their cool threads. example: beating bioshock on hard gets you a big daddy suit or big daddy helmet.

stop complaining about games on demand. If you think its stupid then don't use it. Its not a rip off. You say I'm not gonna buy digital copies because i can't trade it in. If u r gonna buy a game that you know ur gonna trade why not gamefly it first. Anyway there's an upside to downloads and thats not having to worry about any game disc breaking or getting scratched. What they should do though is partner with gamefly.

Looks pretty cool. I'm seriously going to laugh if the digital library games are as much or more than the physical disc copies. I bet they're either exactly the same as a brand new disc copy, or possibly $5.00 more. That's a pretty fat percentage for Micro$haft.

@73 unless it is like with ARCADE games which once a year you can re-download them to a new console and move their licence to the new console so you can boot them whilst not on LIVE and any1 profile can boot those games.
I had to do this when I bought an ELITE when my launch PREMIUM RRODed on me

So just like wasting money on themes and gamerpics, we can now waste money on avatar pimping? I hope some game companies (Valve especially comes to mind) will automatically give you some clothes or accessories. I'd love to have my avatar get a free Altair robe or Big Daddy suit.

Games on Demand will FAIL. I bet Mass Effect will cost €29.99 and GameStop has it for €14.99, why would I buy it on Games on Demand? It is just going be a huge failure like Xbox Originals.

@ Ninjamonkey6493
Dude that is not fair really
Both WARHAWK, and SOCOM were never meant to be retail games, SONY planned to only do online sells of these, but had to offer retail to keep GAMESTOP, and other big retailers happy.
TRINE is nothing but a casual / ARCADE type game.
The only true retail game On PSN is BURNOUT ( if you exclude PS1, and PSP games)
Oh and SIREN but that is only an upres'd PS2 game

I read on teamxbox.com that the update has reduced the amount of space taken on your HDD from installed games.

This is part of the article.

"According to research undertaken by the Eurogamer game-enthusiast website, the system update will reduce—by dramatic amounts, in some cases—the amount of hard-drive space is taken up by games that are installed onto the HD."

"Among the reductions Eurogamer discovered is a nearly one-fifth shaving by King of Fighters XII from 3.4GB to a little over 700MB; Raiden Fighters Aces dropping from 3.4GB to 484MB; and a decline for Left4Dead from 5GB to 3.7GB."

Did Microsoft really say that? That game isn't a family favorite. That game is horrible. It ruins families with its obscenely long load times, terrible camera angles, and miserable story.

Anyway, other preview features are pretty awesome. As long as they don't make me test Games on Demand by buying Sonic the Hedgehog!

You don't get 1 vs 100 because it's still in Beta and you're country isn't one of the beta-testing countries. Be happy you have online gaming and xbl. If you don't like the way Microsoft do things then stop complaining and buy a PS3. Jesus.

If I were you guys I'd be wary about that "Xbox 360 games: Games on Demand."

It'll be just like DLC, in the sense that it'll work offline only one that same xbox or online on your username...however I ran into an instance a while back with my DLC after I had the Red Rings of Death.

I did the process of redownloading everything via history, but it didn't fix my DLC so I can only access some of my stuff online, it even messed up my free files and I had to make a new account to regain offline access to my freely downloaded files.

I would be wary, only because you may get screwed if your console red rings...thus letting you only accessing your content online, if that were to happen.

Is that worth the risk or would you rather have the hard copy of your game so you don't have to wor

@15
Sorry to argue with you, but NXE was the worst dashboard update yet, this update is only making a bad thing worse. Sounds like the achievement sorting and progress will be the only worthwhile thing in this update. How long before M$ allows us to get rid of avatars all together?

Wednesday, August 05, 2009 @ 08:57:16 PM

worry* about losing tons of money worth of games because of the defective prone consoles. I mean I like my 360 and I've only had red rings once...but I'd never want to risk losing 60$ for a new game in the future when they'd offer it.

I'm looking forward to all the updates even though I won't be using most of the features, but I'm sure everyone else will enjoy what I don't partake in. I just strongly advise to stay away from Games on Demand.

The rest of their update seems impressive...if they remove the dashboard lag that happens every now and then...that'd be even better. Hope we're in for a smooth transition on the 11th. : )

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
