Gears of War: Jacinto's Remnant Out Today

Gears of War: Jacinto's Remnant Out Today
Written Tuesday, July 28, 2009 by Alan Pettit

For those of you who want to go beyond the games and learn more about the Gears universe, the second novel is available today. Jacinto's Remnant by Karen Traviss (author of the first novel, Aspho Fields) picks up after the end of Gears of War 2 and the sinking of Jacinto. I'll be picking it up myself on my lunch break.

"After a brutal fifteen-year war for survival, the Coalition of Ordered Governments is forced to destroy mankind’s last city in a final bid to stop the Locust Horde. As the survivors flee Jacinto, they must contend with the last of the Locust, bent on vengeance, as they struggle to stay alive in an icy wilderness. Marcus Fenix, Dom Santiago, and their fellow Gears fight to get Jacinto’s refugees to a safe haven, but find themselves in a lawless new world where the enemy is human–and as desperate and dangerous as any grub."

First book was just OK but it did fill in on the story nicely so I guess I will be picking this one up to. It is nowhere near splinter cell or mass effect quality though...

LoL @ 7 too
I enjoyed the Mass Effect books, so I think I'll give the Gears line a try.

I'll have to read the first one before I get to this, but I'm curious why people who aren't interested or don't like Gears are even posting in the topic, not trying to start a flame war or anything, but if you aren't interested in what the news post is about then why comment on it? Seems like a waste of time to me.

I’m with #18 here, why comment if you aren’t interested? Or as 6 and 14 say ‘intrested’ of course you are not interested in reading a book, you’re barely literate.
I’ve read the Mass Effect books and they were pretty interesting, might be worth a look at some point, the Gears universe is one well worth expanding.

Seriously, 1st book was enjoyable and Karen is a great author who understands military life. I also recommend her Star Wars books.

I think I need to buy the first book and this in the near future. I've read all the halo books (some great, some meh), and both Mass Effect books (really great books), and the Gears universe is also pretty interesting. Hopefully these books adds some interesting backstories to the games.

This would make a GREAT addition to a potencial Gears 3 LE.

Isolated, they don't seem so appealing to me.

Though I like Gears, I don't like it that much that I need to know the backstory in full.
In all honesty, I've played the first without even knowing exactly the details of the story. I just knew who were the bad guys and shoot them.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
