The Force Unleashed DLC Inbound, Special Edition Available in Autumn Too

The Force Unleashed DLC Inbound, Special Edition Available in Autumn Too
Written Friday, July 24, 2009 by Dan Webb

LucasArts today made two announcements concerning their Force Unleashed title that is sure to please Star Wars fans the world over. The first involves its Tatooine DLC which is set to drop this fall - already hinted at with the points upgrade it recently received. Secondly, LucasArts will ship a special Sith Edition of the game which includes the main game, the two pieces of DLC and a new final mission that pits the Secret Apprentice against Luke Skywalker himself.

"The Tatooine mission DLC begins at the end of the story of The Force Unleashed and re-imagines the Star Wars Saga as if the Secret Apprentice had killed Darth Vader and taken his place at the Emperor’s side, becoming the most powerful Sith Lord in the universe. The story picks up as the Emperor sends his new apprentice to the planet Tatooine to dispatch Obi-Wan Kenobi -- who has been hiding on the planet ever since the events of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.  During their hunt for the reclusive Jedi, players will also explore the depths of Jabba the Hutt’s palace and encounter notorious bounty hunter Boba Fett."

As for the Sith Edition, actions speak louder than words and what better to sum up its awesomeness than a trailer!

The exclusive Sith Edition mission "concludes the “Infinities” storyline set up in the Tatooine mission, as the Secret Apprentice is sent to the planet Hoth on a crusade to crush the Rebellion once and for all.  While on Hoth, players face Luke Skywalker himself while visiting iconic locations seen in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back."

Just to recap ... Sith Edition = The Force Unleashed + Coruscant DLC + Tatooine DLC + Planet Hoth mission (which is completely exclusive to this disked Sith Edition).

The Force Unleashed's Tatooine DLC drops this fall and the Sith Edition this holiday season.

I hate the gameplay based on the demo but the Sith Edition does sound pretty cool

Well I almost picked it up this week at gamestop because of the live sale. Glad I waited now. I'm in no hurry to play it.

I just bought the normal game again ready for DLC. Adding achievements early seems a bit stupid because now I want the sith edition for the exclusive mission meaning I have wasted my money on the standard game, gutted. Hope it wont be too expensive :)

This game is awesome! it's a shame Lucas Arts is doing nothing more than a grab for cash by re-releasing, the least they could do is make the planet Hoth mission a DLC as well then the people who bought the game and made it successfull in the first place don't get screwed

as a star wars fan, i cannot condone any of this crap. there is no "what ifs" in a star wars universe.. but knowing my hunger for 100%, ill play it.. doesnt mean i like it... i barely even liked the game thanks to the alternate ending ruining everything..

So the people that supported the original game get d***ed out of Hoth... Nice.

I traded it in 2 days before the first DLC but i've been regretting it recently and thought about buying it again. at least now if i get it i'll get the new mission.

This is why I don't support games out of the gate any more. They will always make a big bundle with all the bugs worked out and the DLC included. If they don't make a bundle, the game probably wasn't worth playing to begin with!

Friday, July 24, 2009 @ 08:43:07 PM

I suspect they will back track once the "ultimate" edition is released and have the Hoth level as a seperate DLC, it really would be stupid of them to screw the original buyers, then again marketing gimps aren't known for their good sense

Friday, July 24, 2009 @ 08:44:15 PM

So this games been out forever and they decide to make a bundle now? what the fuck is that shit

Friday, July 24, 2009 @ 08:46:48 PM

Something I noticed...

One of the achievements is to kill Obi-Wan Kenobi BEFORE and AFTER he becomes "more powerful than you can ever imagine". Since the DLC involves killing Kenobi (that being the before), I reckon the after is in the exclusive mission with the Sith Edition. Which means, you can not get that achievement unless you buy the Sith edition.

This will boost sales for both the DLC and the game itself since LucasArts probably thinks most people have traded their copies in. A lucrative, if not extortionist move by LucasArts.

Then again, I might be too pessimistic as it is 3am where I am right now...

What a load of crap. I can't believe they would release a level exclusive to a re-release that comes out over a year later. I hope Lucasarts realizes that that is a cheap ass thing to do and fixes the situation.

Friday, July 24, 2009 @ 08:48:27 PM

What? .. uhg more money grabs. Ima wait till the sith edition shows up at a second hand store. rather trade in the original plus a bit of cash and get everything all on one disc then shell out another 60-80 dollars. agreed with #15 as well pretty fucked after a YEAR!!

Comment #20 by The Elite Elite
Friday, July 24, 2009 @ 08:49:17 PM

Just figures. I just got the game a few weeks ago, bought the DLC shortly after only for it to become half price the very next week, and now that there is going to be an ultimate edition with it's very own exclusive level!? Ok, I'm going to have to find out what the price of the new edition is and what the new dlc is going to cost. If the new edition is at a decent price I'll sell my current copy of the game and get the new version. But it's still crap that you can only get the extra level through this new edition. It should either come with the new DLC or be its own DLC.

Friday, July 24, 2009 @ 09:00:59 PM

I'm not going to be upset about the exclusive level until I see the price. If it is ahout $30 sure, I'll bite. If it is anywhere near a full price game, I won't get it (no matter how much I enjoyed the game and Coruscant DLC) and I'll tell LucasArts where to shove it (then get it 6 months later used at an agreable price).

Friday, July 24, 2009 @ 09:18:29 PM

Here's how it may go down. Many of you are pissed because they made this new DLC so you had to go and rebuy the game that you've already sold. You re-bought the game and now you find out that there's a special edition. The time comes and you buy the special edition. Then later, after sales start to slump, they release the extra mission as its own DLC, thus pissing you off one final time.

Everyone saying that we're getting screwed out of Hoth DLC - does everyone really think they're going to pass up the opportunity to release it as DLC? Any old psychic could tell you that those who buy the Sith Edition are just getting it earlier. It wouldn't make sense not to sell something if you can and want to (and, in a sense, already are).

Friday, July 24, 2009 @ 10:36:37 PM

@6 I hate to tell you dude, but there have been plenty of "What if" scenarios in SW. There was a few comic mini-series called "Infinities" (that term is stil in use today btw) and the quarterly comic "Star Wars Tales" was mostly made up of out of continuity stories.

And I shouldn't even have to mention the countless SW games that have had alternate endings.

Maybe you're not the fan you thought.

Hmmm. . . . well looks like this gives me an opprotunity to get a new copy (I still have my original) I've just been wanting a LE of SW: TFU and this kinda thing wets my whistle. Looks like I'll be holding off on the Tatooine DLC for the Sith edition. . . I wonder will there be any other add on incentives for this game or just a 2 disc special edition with a new cover art. . .

Whys every one saying awesome this is another big fat con.

So the people who have the regular edition, who bought the DLC supporting the game get royally shafted as there's going to be an exclusive mission to the new edition.

Also whats the point of DL the fall DLC if you cant finish the story as the other ones on the new edition which includes the 1st mission anyhow.

Activision are the new scum of the gaming industry, not only are they milking GH to within an inch of its life, they are setting a stupid RRP for MW2 in the UK and now this.

Activision are the new EA

WTF does Activision and EA have to do with the topic exactly?
Don't get me wrong, I agree with what you're saying, but this is Lucasarts we're talking about here.
I'm glad that they're still supporting this game, I thought they'd killed it off with just the one fairly mediocre deleted mission and a bunch of useless 'costumes'. But I have to admit this takes the piss a little bit. They ought to follow Bethesda's path with the Fallout DLC, so that we get the Tatooine before the end of August, the Hoth one ON DLC before the end of October and then release a 'Game Of The Year'-type edition with it all in the November/December for all those who arent able to download it.

Oh and #76, you've got it nailed m8, and then they wonder why sales are in decline... At the moment it seems that

lawls. I really like the concept, hate how each saga will be an individual perchase, including an individual add-on that will be for the LE only (I know that they will release it later for the $$$).

Secret Apprentice beats Obi-Wan on Tatooine, before he trains Luke? So how does Luke get the lightsaber on Hoth... *already sees the inevitable time paradoxes.* Also bet money on Dagobath and Yoda dlc to wrap it up?

Anyone that doesn't realize that the "disc exclusive" content will be released as DLC soon after the Sith Edition drops isn't running on all cylinders. Flashback maps anyone? They are gonna wait just long enough until for the people that are willing to buy the game a second time to do so, and then release the Hoth pack as DLC with some type of extra piece of content that wasn't included on the Sith Edition.

I do find it humorous to make this announcement at the end of the week when everyone that hadn't already purchased the DLC bought it at half price. It might suck for us the consumers, but it's damn good business.

My guess is that the Hoth mission will be DLC within a month or two. All it is doing is giving new players the chance to play the level first and then let veterans have it. They do this all the time, like with the new map packs for Halo 3 that came with Halo Wars and will be in ODST.

As for the game, I will buy it solely for the Sith's winning and once more, ruling the galaxy. And we will have peace.

Activision have an involvement in the game so its probably them money grabbing gits that have there fingers all over this that's why i mentioned them.

What a steaming pile of sith! I bought this game on release date and loved it despite its problems. Spent $60 there on a brand new copy and also bought the jedi temple mission the day it came out for $10. was dissapointed there but i love star wars and FU (ironic acronym isn't it?) so i didn't regret the $10 spent.

But this is just such a blatant cash in that it makes me sick. First they discount the jedi temple to 50% to get the on the fence people to buy that, then a few days later we get this "you bought that jedi temple mission recently? LOLZ we're releasing a special edition with everything + an exclusive! SUCKORZ!"

they can kiss my italian ass if they think i'm buying this twice. i'll rent the sith edition from gamefly when it comes out to play both DLCs, i'm giving another pen

how much for the sith edition is what i'm wondering..hopefully the same selling point at 20 dollars.

so... the people who bought star wars since its been released CAN'T get the exclusive Hoth mission. only the people who don't really care for the game and will just pick it up because its cheaper and theres more content get the hoth mission. thats really gay. thats worse than what epic did with their all fronts dlc except at least EVERYONE can by it not just the people who dont have the game.

When this game first came out, I saw it as an abortion. I thought the game looked boring and over-hyped by all those huge Star Wars fans. When I borrowed the game from a friend I couldn't stop playing it. I'm not a big Star Wars fan, I think the movies are cool, and I thought the Battlefront games were fun, but that was it, I thought everything else Star Wars sucked. So anyway, point is that this game is great, even for someone who isn't much of a Star Wars fan. It definitely deserves more DLC.

I bought the game on day one. Same with the Jedi Temple DLC. I'll be damned if I'm gonna buy some "ultimate sith edition" nearly a year later just to play an extra level of content.

This is straight bull crap. We buy a single player game, get all the achievements, sell it back and they have DLC? Bull. Not only that, there is another edition that the faithful don't have because we bought the original. LucasArts can suck my left pinky.

I wonder if the Sith Edition will show up on your profile as a separate game, meaning you can get all the Achievements from the main game and first 2 DLCs twice.

@86, 80 has a valid point, even if it is reimagining the star wars saga, an early death of obi wan would mean a great many things, the most important being that Leia would never have any reason to say "Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi! You're my only hope!"

Therefore, even if the droids were dispatched to Tatooine, Luke would never find Leia's message.

However, let's say she records an alternate message calling for anyone's help. Luke stumbles across this and decides to look for help. However, the stormtroopers in Mos Eisley wouldn't be jedi-mind tricked and would just take the droids and shoot Luke. (This is also assuming R2 never runs away and that Luke doesn't need to be saved from the Tuskens.)

However, lets say that they are suffering from extreme heat exhaustion and let luke through

:( comment too long... point was that there are way too many things that would have failed with Obi Wan gone, not to mention how Leia might have changed with Bail's preemptive Death..

If they don't make the hoth mission as DLC,then they cannot be any achievements associated with it, unless the sith edition is listed as a entirely new title.

It seems to be along the lines of the Game of the Year releases that they do. Take, for example, the Elder Scrolls GOTY that came with all the DLC and the COD 4 GOTY that came with the new maps.

So much hatred in the posts...I like getting achievements as much as anyone & enjoy seeing the game go in my completion list, but then I have games that just sit in a drawer next to the xbox...I am glad they release dlcs for the games i own...let's me dust em off and fire em up again...I agree though that hoth will have to be a future dlc...as someone who bought the game awhile ago and kept it, I would get really pissed if I had to buy the same game new just to get the final mission...I would probably buy it used much later with renewed resentment...I doubt they would screw those of us who bought the original game new over, but I guess we shall see

i'll wait for the Sith Edition, then i will wait for target to clearance it to $30. its cool that they are getting into the original trilogy, but it seems like every Star Wars game/book/prequel falls into the trap of intertwining characters too much. Anakin needs help from Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian smuggles some goods for The Apprentice and Grand Moff Tarkin, Dengar, and Yak Face all happen to be there too and its one big familiar party. (sarcasm, obviously)

I didn't want to read all the other comments first so someone may have said this but here goes:

Chances are the Special mission will be a code to download to stop people from renting/borrowing a copy so they either buy the game again (unlikely) or just wait a while and then release it as a DLC as it would already be on live.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
