@Special Ed Mike, region free is what it says, not region locked (will play on both pal and ntsc consoles) and you would only need to import if your in europe as sony stopped us from having it by making it a ps3 timed exclusive. Hope that helps. |

@7 Unfortunately, Sony have exclusivity rights on the game in Europe. So us Europeans won't be seeing the game in shops until the end of October.
Usually, NTSC games won't work on PAL consoles, because of region locking. *But*, this one is region free, so we can import it and not have to wait until October.

I got mine a few days ago only cost 42 pound, the game is brilliant btw, already have 910 gs on it. Im glad others will be inporting it, because it means more people will be playing online as a similar time which means can get the rest of these online acheevs. |

A friend of mine in South Shields got Ghostbusters on the Xbox from his local Granger Games on the 19th.....so much for PS3 exclusive.
Personally im not that hyped about it but im sure the die hard fans will find this a good thing. |

@13 Yeah, I hear that Grainger are pulling a fast one... stocking imports is a real grey area these days. I hear that, when you buy it there, it won't say Ghostbusters on the reciept, but something like 'Hardware' or 'Manager's Special'. I really do wonder what the tax man will make of that when looking at their records?
I think it is a shame that importing is so hard these days... it is not illegal, so why should retailers feel pressurised not to do it? Is it just because they fear the publishers? |

@14 It's not illegal, but publishers are not happy about it. If everyone from Europe imports the Ghostbusters game from the USA, Atari Europe will miss those sales. So Atari Europe tries to keep the importing to the minimum. |

@20 Spot on mate... but the really interesting thing is... why make it region free, then? I was thinking that maybe Microsoft encouraged them to make it region free, so that Europe wouldn't miss out? Not that Microsoft often worry about Europe. :)
But, in a case like this, surely Atari knew that Europeans would import it for sure? |

@22 Same here mate... maybe other people are trying to actually import it from another country... postage and import tax (and potential charge for *collecting* the import tax!) are killers!!!

Glad to have this confirmed, my copy arrived from Amazon this morning. Kind of wish there'd been a shipping option other than "ridiculously expensive courier service" but I'm not all that fussed.
As for publishers getting pissy because people chose to import, well, they could have said no to the money Sony offered for a timed exclusive but they chose instead to agree to screwing over the European and Australian customers. No sympathy. |

Granger Games were selling the Xbox version the day the ps3 version came out on the sly. Even the reciept read "Gift Card" rather than ghostbusters. How they get away with it i dont know. |

Yeah we had a few come into work last week on import and I've got to say they game is sick... Slot of good features With the online like upgradeable uniform and proton gun also the story is very good? only downside is the length of single player as it takes 3 hours to complete on medium difficulty . |

Games Arena in Burnley has imported them as well.
Very nice price too!
I think the reason why they don't import them is because the publishers might find out and stop them from ordering any other products.
I know it's Atari but still... ;) |
