Ghostbusters NTSC is Region Free

Now if you're a Ghostbusters fan from Europe, chances are that the news that Sony's move to take timed exclusive rights over that region will have annoyed you ever so slightly. A title that was so close ... just getting snatched away like that.

Fear not folks, Destructoid are reporting that an Atari rep has told them that the NTSC version of the title, due to hit American stores on June 16th, will not be region locked and so those in Europe who can't wait (and want to 1 up Sony) can import theirs from any number of places. Might we suggest:

Play Asia.com - Ghosbusters - The Video Game

Whilst this is unconfirmed by ourselves, Destructoid are a pretty damn reliable site. If you want more confirmation though, I just purchased it, so I can be the guinea pig here if you want to wait. If not, jump in!

As the article says, Sony have bought timed exclusive rights to the game in europe. So 360 users won't see it for a while over here, hence the need to import.

Old news.

And people asking if it'll stack, since it's region free I highly doubt it. Maybe the PAL version will be PAL only and show up as GhostBusters (EU) but who can say until nearer the release date.

@22 : I can't say for all Europe but in France a game is worth 70€ (+-100$) so a 65$ imported game is a nice discount.

I'll order this one because of the earlier release date but most of the RF games I have are imports.

just try clicking the play-asia link to see the price, it's 40.59 UK on there, so about normal if this was going to be a full RRP UK game. Still way to expensive for what will be a mediocre game at best though.

I've heard that the confirmed UK/Europe date is sometime in October. I will defo be getting this imported. I have a PS3 as well and was considering getting it on the less superior gaming format, but now I'll be looking out for a good import buy.
Ha ha, my very expensive karaoke machine will once again be without any games :)

littlewoods uk sent me the NTSC version of silent hill homecoming before it was out here (and it worked on ym xbox). first in the uk to trade it in cus it was shit lol/
hopefully theyll send the NTSC ghostbusters if it is confirmed region free :)

I'll be importing merely to spit in the eye of SONY trying to screw us Euro players.I could easily wait till October/November when it's due here but I'd feel happier contributing to a low sales figure in Europe.

I thought pretty much every 360 game was region free.
I've never had any problems with importing games from other places.
(Arkham Asylum, Assassin's Creed 2 and MW2 will hopefully be the same =/).

Assassin's Creed 2 and Modernwarfare II will definitely be region free. The other AC was region free, so why wouldn't this? All Call of Duty games have been region free, so why wouldn't the new one?

Sony wernt trying to screw Europe over, just try and get people to buy the game on PS3. Not every xbox 360 player will read this and know it's region free so Sony havent exactly failed. And the PS3 version does have trophies. But I love Ghostbusters but don't mind waiting abit.

check out videogamesplus.ca they usually have games for a nice price that are region free and alot of the time they have stuff cheaper than play asia.

Gamestop do international preorders.
You'll need to fax them your credit card/debit card statement though if it's a "high-dollar transaction".

For Assassins Creed 2 White Edition JB Hi-Fi do it aswell.

sony suck big time! I won't get a PS3 and never will, if that was their intentions all along then they've seriously got the wrong end of the stick. Will consider importing this when there's confirmation that it works on PAL (UK) consoles.

I wandered into a (UK) shop today and saw a few copies on the shelves. Not realising the difference till I read this I went and bought it anyway. It has a small NTSC logo in the top right corner of the cover and it's playing fine (it's good fun too). Obviously with Live being down I can't check that side of the game yet.
