Burnout Paradise's Big Surf Island Coming in June

Burnout Paradise's Big Surf Island Coming in June
Written Friday, May 22, 2009 by Dan Webb

Criterion Games today announced that their long awaited Big Surf Island will be available for download this coming June 11th.

"If you know Paradise City, you'll be familiar with the huge, under-construction suspension bridge that leads into the ocean to the East of Downtown Paradise. But the question we've been asked by so many fans is - what's on the other side of the bridge?

The island is roughly the size of Downtown Paradise, but features gameplay unlike any other area in the game. We're running with the mantra "if you can see it, you can drive it" to introduce a new level of freedom to Burnout Paradise, and the island also features some big air jumps - the largest on the game."

No price is yet mentioned, but in the meantime, check out the Criterion Blog for the trailer and our gallery for the Big Surf Island screens.

Is it just me or is Burnout a bit boring now? 2 and 3 were classics but I think something else should come along and take the Burnout crown, maybe Blur or Fuel?

I miss the days when they gave you shit for free. NOw they charge, but it's not just that they charge, but rather that they charge so much it's unreal. Toy Car pack? Unreal how much that bullshit costs.

I'm pretty sure this will be free, but who knows. Criterion has been ridiculous lately with their DLC.

@5 & @6 please try the game before saying its boring, and not just the Demo. If you did you would realize its different from the prior Burnouts. I hate EA but they got this game right.

@14 they already stated this would be pay for DLC, its not going to be free. I'm guessing 1600 pts because they have been working on this since last year. But wouldn't be mad if it was 800 =}.

For the price of the game retail ($20) and the amount of gameplay you get I would say its a pretty solid buy.

To everyone who says that it took too long. I would say that this was pretty good timing considering that they scrapped everything they had worked on to start over and actually make it decent, unless you would have rather paid for something 1/100 as good as they are doing now.

To everyone complaining about the price of their stuff now. Considering how much they have put out that is free and the fact that they are not working extensively on any other games lately they need to bring in revenue somehow or else they wouldn't be around long enough to even do this.

From myself. I think this will be great and I can't wait to play it.

Poll

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
