Rumor: Gears 2 TU4 Giving Experience for Horde Mode? Written Thursday, May 21, 2009 by Alan Pettit Eagle-eyed forum member Amblix caught something neat while watching G4's exclusive preview of the upcoming Dark Corners DLC/All Fronts collection. At exactly 2:49 in the following video, the camera pans by a row of TV's, the one on the right showing someone playing Horde. It catches him right at the start of a new wave, with the achievement progression bar popping up in the lower right, notifying the gain of experience from the previous wave. So while this isn't exaclty confirmation, it does appear the next title update (that will add in code for the Dark Corners DLC) will give the ability to earn experience while playing Horde mode. The only thing we need to know now, is how terrible the conversion will be. Currently the worst mode to play is Annex at a mere 26% - I can only image Horde will be lower than this, even on Insane. Time will tell if this rumor is even true, and if so, if it will speed up the long haul to level 100.

It varies by game type, based on how difficult it is to obtain points. Annex has a low conversion rate because it's really easy to get a few thousand points in the span of 1 game. Horde mode would likely have an even lower conversion rate than Annex because of the sheer amount of kills one can get with relative ease. |

Be this level, beat that many rounds of Horde on this or that map. That's fine, but they won't give you a lot for it. Look at the video again, he barely got any points for the round. It'll be a waste of time AFTER you get the Horde Mode achievements and everyone will go back to playing the MP mode they are best at. |

I thought for sure that horde would be my favorite gametype but I just get too bored after 20 waves or so. There's not enough variety for me, its always the same enemies in the same waves and they just use the same attack patterns. My one buddy will be stoked about this, Horde mode is all he plays. I guess I want more of a challenge and for me that's playing against humans. I like the multiplayer sans the glitchers. But glitchers will always be in a game that has multiplayer rank, there's always those fools out there that feel the need to cheat to rank up so they can boast about thier "high" rank. It seems akin to walking around with a sock in your pants if you ask me. |

That's a great business mindset, and last time I checked Gears 2 was still getting buried behind older shooters "guys are playing now". Oh this was going to ship with the game but we deleted it and now are going to charge you for it. Nice. And the 11 million unit figure is misleading as hell - 6+ mill were Gears 1, and Gears 2 sold 2.1m of its total 5m on its first days. The game was alright but the arrogance that Epic carries themselves with as though they accomplished something brilliant this time around is irritating. It was fine with Gears 1. |
