Bethesda Announces New Fallout 3 DLC

Bethesda Announces New Fallout 3 DLC
Written Tuesday, May 19, 2009 by Dan Webb

Bethesda today announced two new pieces of downloadable content for Fallout 3, coming this coming June and July for Xbox 360 and PC; one of which you might even recognise from the one rumoured last month.

The first of two newly announced episodes, Point Lookout throws players into a massive swampland area promising new quests and content to tide you over. Point Lookout will cost the usual 800 Microsoft Points and be available in late June.

The second of the new episodes, set for late July for 800 points also, is the extra terrestrially named, Mothership Zeta, where you'll encounter a race of supremely pissed off aliens and experience an alien abduction first hand.

In addition, PS3 owners out there who own this title will be glad to see all previous downloadable content making its way to the PSN starting this coming June with Operation Anchorage, followed by the release of The Pitt and Broken Steel 4-6 weeks apart. Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta are all slated for a PS3 launch after all the other three packs have been released.

Bethesda also sent word that they are planing to release their content on disc with their Add-on Pack #1 (Anchorage and The Pitt) hitting stores across Europe from June 12th. Add-on Pack #2 will drop in August and contain Broken Steel and Point Lookout. No price has yet been finalised, but these packs are stated as Xbox 360 and PC only.

Last but not least, Bethesda will be releasing a Game of the Year edition of Fallout 3 this coming October that will feature the original game and all five add-ons for a mere £39.99/€59.99 for the Xbox 360 and PS3. A PC version will be available and it will be slightly cheaper at £29.99/€49.99.

So then ... new Fallout 3 DLC ... excited much?

tryng to work out wether to wait for GOTY edition or buy the packs. whichever is cheaper will get my vote.

all this DLC nowadays is getting expensive. GTA IV, Gears 2, Fallout 3, Fable 2. its like buying half as many games again.

Dammit, I knew I should have waited on Fallout for a GOTY edition. It's a steal if coms with 5 pieces of DLC - alone they run you up to 4000 points, which is roughly £34. Even if you buy the GOTY edition at full price, the main game is still technically only £6!

Oh well, I'll see if I can pick up the add-on packs for a decent price! :o

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 @ 09:08:39 AM

Been waiting for this to get announced. And now there will be 2? Jeez, I might die. Was hoping for something else instead of the extra quests (don't know what but I was hoping for it). But this is awesome news too.

Hmm so this is supposedly a $110 game now?

What a laugh. If I want to run around aimlessly with a gun I'll grab mine and head outside. Hate the new face of Fallout and it is even more boring than Elder Scrolls.

Fallout & 2 = good, Fallout 3 = cookie-cutter garbage cashcow game.

Yawn. And here's me thinking we had some exciting news.

I guess it's good news for the fans of this game. but to be honest, more DLC for this over-milked cash cow was as inevitable as another Guitar Hero or CoD game.

I believe they were timed exclusives, though I thought it was 6 months timed, not 2 :/

Hey #25, hear that? Fallout3 doesn't like you either.

This game is so awesome. And being that I live in Maryland it makes it locally made which makes it that much cooler. Every time I go to dc (fairly often) I see the monuments in a whole new light.

Fucking amazing. A DLC Pack with ALIENS?! Goddamn GENIUSES at Bethesda. This game never ceases to amaze me. And also, it's cool that they're giving the DLC over to the PS3.

Is the GOTY Fallout -just- going to be available in Europe? Wouldn't make sense if it did, at least not to me, but once again, it's not too sure. It might sure be the euro/pounds sign that's boggling me - those are euro's and pounds, right?

comparing the fallout dlc to any other dlc (apart from GTA's) is ludicrous, your actually getting 3 - 5 hours of proper game content as good as the original game here, not some shitty multiplayer maps or extra bloody costumes! 800 points a pack is a great price in my opinion, i hardly by any dlc cause it's normally awful, but great content for the greatest game ever, I'll happily pay for.

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 @ 10:30:06 AM

@ #61
I have to disagree. None of the 3 released DLC packs have been anywhere near as good as the retail. Not only story wise, but they've been plagued with bugs that Bethesda is ignoring so they can make more DLC.
Also, if you buy a map pack for a game you play a lot, you'll get WAY more than 3-5 hours of play out of it. I got, in 2 days, more play time out of the Mythic Map pack than I did for all 3 Fallout 3 DLCs and I spent $10 on Mythic, $30 on Fallout 3 DLC... so far.
The Fallout 3 DLC packs should have been no more than $5 a piece, (The Pitt should've been free after all the crap they pulled with it), and I'm sure neither of the next 2 packs will be worth more than $5.
Let the greed flow!

Demon, you're an idiot.. I have gotten huge amounts of time and enjoyment out of all the Fallout DLC. Played through each with my 3 characters, and soon with a 4th, not to mention enjoying items like my Chinese Stealth Suit and Shock Sword throughout the rest of the game.. This game and Bethesda have earned a lot of respect from the gaming community bc they put out extremely solid games, and when there is a problem, it gets fixed hella quick.. I don't know what bugs you speak of, bc I've played through numerous times and have encountered none.. If you don't like the game or the extra content, don't buy or play them.. Problem solved.. Now shut the fuck up

Don't go around this site flaming people, this isn't xbox.com, this is an actual community.
Second, if you looked on Bethesda's forums you'd see just how wrong you are. The gaming community is pretty sick of Bethesda releasing bug ridden DLC and games. Just because YOU didn't encounter bugs, doesn't mean thousands of other people haven't. Due to framerate issues and constant freezing (I can't even scope in with a sniper rifle or my game freezes) the game has become pretty much unplayable for me.
Now mods, could you kindly do something about the unnecessary flaming/name calling? The think I love about this site is the community, but it seems people like SubtleSarcarsm would like to ruin that.

I have to say I am excited by the new DLC for the most part. I have to say I am a little put off by the "alien" aspect of the 2nd pack.

After reading through everything, I will say I applaud Bethesda for: A) Taking over Fallout from Black Isle and making something truly amazing. And B) For supporting and expanding the game with DLC, these will be packs 4 & 5 and mot many games can claim that many packs......and that many successful packs either.

Bugs will be encountered in most DLC, you cant plan for every eventuality when testing. But you have to agree that Fallout without any DLC is a huge game and more than makes up for the price tags being added on now. The fact that I am still playing speaks volumes. I purposely made sure I would have to play the game at least 3 times for t

Believe it or not, it's completely possible to disagree with someone without that person being an idiot. Hope you realize that soon.

Anyways I agree with the guy you called an idiot, so I guess I am an idiot too. The Fallout DLC has not prolonged the story, provided additional immersion, etc. to the original story.

It's a bunch of individual chapters that don't connect, is far worse than the original game (which was not even close to the "greatest game ever" as someone above said).

It's just a rehashed Elder Scrolls, the main storyline is boring, and the DLC is crap. Increasing the level cap was the most entertaining part of it.

Sorry to squash your notions of the greatest game ever, but FO3 is just a cookie-cutter Elder Scrolls game, and the DLC is just juicing yo

I hope the next DLC for xbox is glitch free. I would love a REAL expansion for Fallout 3 though, like shivering isles. I am feeling a little nickle and dimed for ten dollars for 4 hours of gameplay on all the DLC. I am happy however about the new content though...

By the time all of this DLC is out, I will have paid one hundred and ten dollars to play all the way through Fallout 3. WEAK!!!

PLEASE RAISE THE LEVEL CAP AGAIN...maybe more significantly this time...DO I hear 50?

Europeans care about euros, number 65... And the other symbol is for pound stirling, not Lira. And in answer to your question, £39.99 is roughly $62 and €49.99 is roughly $68.29.

We all saw this coming, they couldn't just stop with Broken Steel.

HOPEFULLY there won't be ANY errors on these next two pieces.

I didn't have a save before Broken Steel and I got two achievements while the server wasn't working so I have to replay the whole game on a separate save just to get to those two quests :/

har, that is clearly indicative of the "greatest game ever".

Hope yous guys enjoyed paying $110 for one game.

Reminds me of the N64 days, paying $70 for Mario 64 and Killer Instinct Gold.

Difference is, I bought those when they were brand new and of scarce supply. FO3 DLC on the other hand... not hard to find, not worthwhile....

Anyone please tell me I am wrong. The best-selling games of all time (which FO3 cannot even sniff) cost $40-60. I would love anyone to tell me how FO3 is worthy of being the most expensive game ever (besides uhh.... Steel Battalion?). It is just the storyline from an awesome older game stuck on the same engine Oblivion ran.

Sure, the story is catchy - try the other FO games - 3 is just a storyline swiped from Interplay and gameplay swip

@40 you paid that extra money so you could play the game for like the last 8 months... its like saying if you buy a game brand new on opening day for 60 bucks and then 8 months later complaining about the fact that the game has dropped prices... lol it doesnt work like that

Awesome, I'm loving the Fallout 3 DLC and all but.. why are we getting 5 packs for it when Oblivion (which most people tend to agree is the better game) only had 1 worthwhile pack and a bunch of crappy dungeon packs? I'm aware that a lot of people would have sold it already but I'd be willing to bet a lot of people would pick it up cheap again and enjoy some more time in one of the greatest game worlds created.

£40 for GOTY edition? God, I payed £40 for the standard!

Actually, I got it as a Christmas present, so that's a lie, but still, couldn't it have least been £45-£50 to make me feel better?

On the DLC side though, I'll most likely pick them up, like the previous 3, although it may be a while before I do :(

Why does anyone who didn't enjoy or even purchase Fallout 3 bother making an idiotic 'zomg guys it isn't isometric and exactly like the original games therefore it blows your moms balls lol!!1one Also it r Oblivion with guns lul!' post here? Bethesda is going to take flak from mouth breathers like this even if they HAD essentially copy/pasted Fallout 2 and given it a face lift. What if Elder Scrolls didn't exist? What would your truly vaunted opinions be then? Just bitching because a different developer did something different? This isn't an example of a 'cash-cow' game, no, examples of THAT would be Halo, Call of Duty, GTA, any sports titles, and virtually any JRPG. Meaning, the developers take the smallest amount of effort to BARELY change anything, then market it as brand spanking new.

It's always sad when people can't understand that people like something just: because they do, anyways I believe that Fallout 3 is a brilliant game, and will support it by buying all the DLC, to make sure that it keeps being released and in the face of the people who post several times trolling up what should be a happy thread! Yay, for more DLC!

I know this article is talking about GOTY for Europe, but I'm wondering if this is going to be for Canada and the USA as well. I got Fallout 3 recently and I am debating if I should give it back and get the cash, and wait for GOTY. All 5 expansions is 4000 MSP and roughly about two 2800 MSP cards in Canada which is almost another 100 dollars.

If this is guaranteed to be released in Canada, I can hold of for another 5 months. But then again, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will just be around the corner...

more dev should put this much time & effort into supporting their games after release as long as its quality content. the bugs stink but they fixed them pretty quickly. I was waiting until Steel came out & raised the cap to play the 1st 2 dlc. i just finished anchorage & thought it was ok. starting the Pitt soon. it does suck that they're $10 but at least it wasn't for a new online map, new outfit or horse armor. if you don't like the price, don't buy it. this is the world we live in, if you don't like it, get off the ride.

People that complain about too much DLC... you don't have to play it! And I'm sorry I hurt your feelings Demon, but like someone else said, your track record in these forums has been less than crystal clean. Ij ust tend to get a little agitated reading the same people bitching about the same stuff over and over in these forums. I know that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but give it a rest! We get it, you don't like the game. So play something you like, and let the people who enjoy this game, (which just so happens to be 99% of the people in this forum), talk about and be excited for this announcement. Get a damn life.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
