BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Release Date, Trailer, Screenshots and Pre-Order Bonuses

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger is an upcoming hi-res 2D fighting game. It will serve as the spiritual successor to the Guilty Gear franchise, and is developed by the same team. It has been confirmed for a simultaneous Japanese and US release at the end of June (no word on an EU release). That alone should show how confident they are with this game; fighting games rarely get released in the US until their selling power is first tested in the asian market. If you need more proof of their belief in this game, see their pre-order specials below.

A pre-order from Gamestop you will get an exclusive 32-page artbook. If you go the Gamecrazy route, you'll get an exclusive special edition Mana Potion energy drink. Anyone who pre-orders the game at any retailer will also be upgraded to the Limited Edition version, receiving a 48-song soundtrack and bonus disc with tutorials and strategies, for no extra cost.

Here is the synopsis of the game's story and some of its selling points:

In the 13th hierarchical city, Kagutsuchi, the Librarium regulates the amazing power of “Armagus”, a fusion of magic and technology. Currently they are after a wanted criminal named Ragna The Bloodedge, also known as “Death”, who wants to destroy the Librarium. Due to Ragna possessing a powerful form of Armagus known as the Azure Grimoire, people far and wide are after not only his bounty, but his grimoire as well. This is where our story begins...

  • Over 10 unique combatants to choose from! Choose a character that represents your own fighting style, like the lightning-fast Taokaka or the wickedly powerful Tager.
  • Drive your way to victory! Use the unique “Drive Attacks” specific to each character to decimate your opponent. Depending on the character, control the elements like wind and ice, or even absorb the life force from your opponents.
  • A plethora of off ensive and defensive options at your disposal! Take advantage of Barriers, Counter Assaults, Rapid Cancels, and Distortion Drives to turn the tide of battle!

can i just be the first to say what the hell?
i for one would like it stay in Japan and the US rather than it come across to EU, this is the sort of thing we've come to expect on the arcade, not a full retail game, this certainly doesnt look next gen worthy.
nowadays, if you can clutter the screen up with enough particle effects you can bet your ass someones gunna buy it

Uh, #4 this has already been released for arcades.

I'm really looking forward to it, played it at my arcade a bunch and it's a blast.

#4, I don't think it's just nowadays. These types of flashy fighters have been around for ages, not just this gen, so there's not really an argument there. In fact, I don't think it's all THAT popular either, so I don't know what you're on about.

@12 I never played powerstone, but this is actually a game like guilty gear if you ever played it. Its made by the same people, if you haven't played it then check it out for xbox and if you like it you will most likely like this game :D

They should work on a more Super smash bros/Small Arms game with characters like Master Chief VS Marcus Fenix VS Banjo Kazooie ect. Cos that would be pretty sick and with big names gets big sales, im getting kinda tired of these 2D Fighting Street Fighter rip-offs. Tekken is the only decent one really

I forgot all about this. I still have to preorder this. I've been meaning to since it was announced but its slipped my mind. I'm gonna go with the GameStop route since the artbook is a once in a lifetime while the mana potion drink I can pick up anywhere.

guilty gear is the shit, and this game looks like it will be just as fun, plus more of those marvel vs. capcom-ish animations.

definitely will gamefly this one and maybe purchase.

lol at the people complaining about this being on a disc (#4, #20). yeah i know, that's totally stupid that companies actually want to try and make money off of their new games ./sarcasm

also lol at #16. yeah, halo 3 is stupid too. its obviously a complete wolfenstein 3d ripoff....

LOL @ number #16. You can't make a game like Smash Bros. for Xbox or Sony, it's just not right. Plus it would be a cheap Smash rip-off. (end sarcasm)And Tekken is not a 2d fighter.

I barely noticed this game yesterday, and may I say it looks pretty good. Might be a good replacement until Tekken 6 since SFIV dissappointed me.

BTW most people bashing this game are SF fanboys I have noticed, so if they could please shut up and let SFIV have some competition, that'd be great. (sarcasm ends)

Looks a lot like the characters from Guilty Gears even, same color-schemes and body builds, just new clothes and weapons. ;P
Might pick this up, I'm interested in the soundtrack at least. ;)

The pre-order bonus is pretty nice. Still this looks like a rent for me. Already have too many fighting games. Rather buy an adventure/rpg/platformer/something. Still cool looking game.

had one of those mana potions in the past I found them disgusting tasting personally, I personally rather have the artbook was a little turned off by price tag at first but seeing it's coming with soundtrack and that other disc with stuff on it then I think I'm going to get it.

If you don't care about the game, don't bother posting. Nobody needs your negative opinion here. I, for one, am looking forward to this. Also, look into the online modes. Like Soul Calibur it's going to have online lobbies and such, which means a lot of fun for you and friends.

What really excites me about this is that it doesn't cost about 50 bagillion dollars extra to get the artbook and songs, because I wouldn't pay extra for that stuff. Smart choice making it free if you pre-order.

Man just because capcom came out with there street fighter 4 which has been the same for ages with a new face lift does not mean that all these 2-d fighting games are street fighter rip offs. Have any of you played Guilty Gear for XBOX well its fast paced they use weapons and the combos are alot better. You should try it before bashing a game.

I doubt this will come out in the UK.

A new version of PowerStone (as mentioned previously) would be amazing, especially with the online play that was a bit lacking on the Dreamcast.

Can't wait for it. Always liked Guilty Gear as my favorite fighting game series for the fast paced fighting. This is a fighting game that is actually a fighting game. Won't get many people turtling in this one like SFIV. Game looks amazing too from what I've seen in arcades.
