I'm tired of microsoft sucking up my money when Sony doesn't charge anything for me to play online with their system. I understand not everybody can afford both consoles, or some just may not be interested in a ps3. I could write a huge list of pros and cons on both systems, but overall the ps3 would win. If it had better game selection, it would easily crush microsoft as long as they kept it free. Also, I believe when the new halo 3 maps came out, they were still charging for the old ones. Shortly before Resistance 2 came out, Resistance 1's maps went free. Unreal tournaments maps were free as soon as they were released. I think Microsoft trying to bilk more money out of us is shady. There's no reason this shouldn't be in the Gold membership. And if they add a level higher than Gold you know that MS is going to do everything possible to get people to upgrade, even if it means withholding perks from Gold members and making the service worse unless you upgrade (although they will deny doing this).
This better be a joke. These perks are hardly worth any extra money, and what does online storage even mean? That you can send your gamesaves online and access them from any Xbox in the world? |

I think it depends on how much more they are charging. If its only a dollar or two a month to get additional free content, give out invitations to silver memberships and possibly get new demo releases before regular gold members it might possibly be worth the extra money to some users. |

What most people don't understand is that Microsoft isn't making money from the Xbox 360 console itself but is losing money from it. They make their money from games, accessories, DLC, and live. Also, how much money you spend on DLC is not determined by Microsft but by developers. Do you know how much time and money it takes to make just 3 maps? It takes a lot. Let's see you people come up with 3 maps for a multiplayer game that are balanced and unique. |

And actually, DLC price is determined by Microsoft. The developer probably has some say but if Msoft had none, then how come all the developers that try to release stuff for free are shot down?
I honestly don't know why anyone would actually pay for this. Most MP games are hosted by the user, not Microsoft so any problems you have are because of the player's internet connections, not Microsoft. So how are they going to give better connections? And what is an invite to silver members? They can't play online, so what am I inviting them to? This will just prove to Msoft that people will pay for anything. |

Yes, Microsoft is an extremely wealthy business, but it's not like they don't have employees that need raises or bonuses. Getting extra money that you didn't have before would help give these people more money, which can help them and their families.

I'd be all on this if VIP membership includes the ability to download ALL premium DLC's at a steep discount. (At least 70% off) The price of XBLA has gone up so much and there are way too many DLC's released, so a paid membership that gives us a huge benefit in terms of DLC would be useful. I don't see them making many unqiue match-making options that I'd be willing to pay for. All I'm interested is in co-op play anyway. |

i think microsoft enjoy bringing out the next expensive thing regularly to milk us for money, but I can't see how a promise of better connection can be achieved. Lets say they make a faster server for these "Premium" members, the more people on it, the slower it gets. So if half the gold community is on this and half is on reg gold, then the speeds wouldn't have that much of a difference on gaming, as there are only a handful of games that lag enough for you to notice if you have a good conenection. |

Last generation Microsoft Xbox was loosing out to the PS2 because the PS2 had more and better games. This gen Xbox 360 is beating PS3 by far because 360 has better games. Microsoft has given us our investment back in this sense... and that's a big deal. Our money paid in the past has not gone to waste! To anyone who thinks Microsoft doesn't have a RIGHT to make as much money as they possibly can: You are a communist.
Maybe VIP will be for members who have had Live Gold for more than a year or two. This could open some great possibilities.
Maybe the Diamond discount card will come back.
Maybe the (Old Spice)Rewards Challenges will come back.

Otherwise they should call it "Platinum"...obviously.

I need to question this, why the FUCK should we be forced to pay for a "better" membership that offers a BETTER connection? The fucking connection speed should be universal based off of your internet connection. This is horrible. We already pay a decent amount to game online, now they want us to pay more to get the internet connection we should ALREADY be getting and some fucking space on their server.

Depending on cost and exactly what was on offer I would def consider it. And as for people complaining about the PS3 and Wii being free online, as an owner or all three systems I'm sorry but we're getting what we pay for.
The 360 service is far better than the PS3 one which is quite frankly lacking some major option (private/party chat anyone?).The better option would be to give more options to Silver members and include these proposed new features into Gold. |

I had an XBox and the lag was completely unbarrable. Now before you flame me for my connection issues, consider this. I used to host a 16 plays Halo 3 or a 10 player Gears 2 game and everyone complained about lag, on my PS3, I host 32 player Killzone 2 and 16 player UT3 (with user greated maps) matches and the only people to complain about lag are those connecting from overseas. This is the same internet connection, direct connected into my modem. M$ is deffinately holding something back. Consider that next time you're plunking you hard earned money into that next Gold subscription. |

I agree with HotShotCMS right at the top of this thread.
Microsoft should up there game, alot of my mates switched to PS3 or when considering a console bought a PS3, their reason for this was online gameplay being absolutely free.
I'm happy to pay for gold membership because i get better connection and online seems to run smoother, whilst my mates have got used to getting disconnected from games.
But a three tier system might not be a bad thing, silver, gold, VIP. I'd stick with gold cos its all i need, unless i get more money then sense then I'd upgrade.

I think they mean you could back up your save games online, and let Silver members who can't normally play online, play as long as they are in your lobby. Those are both amazing ideas. I dread the day my memory card dies, and I lose a couple RPG saves that have 100+ hours logged. Those kinds of services cost money to support, and Microsoft knows that taking too many losses will eventually kill your company (looks like that's catching up with Sony). |

Also, no one is forcing anyone to upgrade to VIP. You know, instead of this costing a whole $4.00 a month it'll probably be like $5.50...oh the humanity. Man, for an Xbox Achievement site there sure are a lot of Sony fan boys here. Where does this sense of entitlement come from? If you don't like microsoft there are other consoles. If you don't like paying for gold, then don't play online. If DLC is too expensive don't buy it. Nobody owes you anything. The console and games you buy are all you are entitled to. If the studios produce new content or microsft decides to change service you don't deserve it for free. Perhaps i am wrong but I don't think Sony giving away free PS3 for everyone who owned a PS1 and PS2. After all with the logic on this board once you buy something you are entitled to all future related prodcuts for free. Silver members will become totally left out of everything, as the new "we'll throw you a bone" type of subscription will become gold, rather than silver. Only way this will work is if they lower the price of Gold or make Gold the new Silver and VIP the new Gold. $50 a year is expensive enough. Any new features they create for Live should go to Gold. I know a lot of people complain about Microsoft...err M$ but we get a lot of content, options, and freedom for just $30-$50 per year (you can get most XBLive 12 month cards from Best Buy, Amazon, Target etc... on sale for $30 most times).

I have a Wii, a DS Lite, and an Xbox. I was overjoyed to get an 60 GB Xbox 360 and Halo 3 for Christmas. For all of you saying PS3 is free. Yeah for you, but not for the developers. They have to pay money for each download of their games and even free stuff like demos.
And also i'ts a lot cheaper than an MMO and you can play nearly every game with the most people online. I like it it that we get exclusive DLC or demos (and often earlier)
I pay around 4 bucks a month (you can get a lot of free codes. I got 6 months free because I searched in the USED GTA IV copies in GameStop) and it's worth it. Without the ability to chat with 7 other people while you are doding what you want is awesome.
But the VIP thing. Meh, I don't know. They are only calling it VIP so that a lot of dumb people buy it to feel better than someone else. |

The only good that could come out of this would be a drop in the cost of Gold membership and even then the service may deteriorate as it's not pulling in as much $$ for MS at it used to. |

The key thing to remember here is "rumour". It hasn't happened yet and I wouldn't hold your breath on it actually happening at all.
Even if it did the only thing I disagree on is the connections and matchmaking. £40 a year is an incredible deal considering what Microsoft give us - plenty of online games, party chat system, game and achievement tracking, EXCLUSIVE downloadable content, customization of Avatars along with the massive amounts of updates we recieve. While PSN is free, it doesn't come near to the standards of LIVE.
Stop moaning. You're paying for the service. If you don't like it, don't buy it. |

I would get it, I mean I love DLC and if I don't have to waste all my hard drive space on DLC content then it will be worth it, plus better connectivity would be very helpful too. I don't see what all the fuss is about the money anyway it's not like bying 12 months of live and a few microsoft points is that bloody expensive, I mean you must be pretty poor if you can't afford it. Besides every existing gaming item always gets cheaper when a newer version is released, so Gold will more than likely become cheaper and VIP would become the prie of gold. |

Im having problems with microsoft because of a problem they must have had on there system I have ended up with a Irish account even though i live in the UK and because of this i can't download COD WAW and GOW2 Flashback maps and all MS are saying is i have to just start a new account and loose my 87k score so for sure i'm not going to be getting the VIP.

I have always been a loyal gamer, i never buy more than one platform. I continued my Nintendo loyalty right up to N64, but soon realized that I unlike Nintendo was growing up. I waited for the next best thing...ps2 sucked ass. Then came along XBOX and I found my new system. unless the extra cost for VIP is minimal then there is no point in paying extra.
1) Online storage - pointless if you have the 120GB hard drive even with all your games installed on it.
2) new matchmaking option - has potential as long you can choose the minimum age of the people you play against. anyone that has played halo 3 against someone who clearly sounds a 6 yr old will understand
3) invites to silver members - why? seriously, why? surely if you have money for an xbox in the first place, then you can surely afford $4 or $5 a month for gold membership.
4) better connectivity - um, shouldnt we be getting this anyway
