Street Fighter IV Championship Mode Due Next Week

Capcom today announced that the Championship mode for Street Fighter IV will drop next Friday, April 24th and it won't cost you a penny. Championship mode gives players the chance to compete in tournaments and to watch replays of the best tournament matches.

"Championship Mode offers you the chance to compete in five different grades of tournaments, creating the right challenge for players of every skill level.  You’ll score Grade Points (GP) for tournament wins, and as your GP total grows, you’ll become eligible to enter into more exclusive tournaments.  Winning tournaments will also net you Championship Points (CP).  CPs are like “prize money” up for grabs in the tournament.  The higher the GP skill of the players in a particular tournament, the bigger the CP prize!" 

"The Replay Mode allows you to select and watch the best Championship Mode tournament matches. On Xbox Live, you can choose to download and save your favourite replays to study the players’ techniques. You’ll also be able to turn on the input commands from both players to be able to review their button and joystick motions in precise detail."
 
Street Fighter IV's Championship mode will be available for download on April 24th.

This is pretty good. I've been hesitant to buy this so far, after buying the HD remix for the arcade. Tournaments are always a lot of fun, so this could sway me. Kudos to Capcom.

I'm hoping they'll also look at Dan's auto-blocking in trial mode. I understand he blocks as soon as your keyinput is too slow but it's ridiculous with some of the harder trials how you can be a splitsecond too fast or too slow meaning it partly comes down to dumb luck

I personally would like the option of the replays being optional, some people are not gonna want others to see how they play exactly. Meh.. very happy to see a tournament mode though.

#13, a little bit unnecessary? If anything rejoice at the fact you can now beat them down Tournament style :P

I'm more surprised at the fact Capcom is releasing a multiplayer mode for free...;)

Replay Mode sounds awesome though.

Thus far, Street Fighter IV has been inferior to Street Fighter II: Turbo HD Remix in every way. Both balance, and online features. Pathetic, really. But then again, Japan are still roughly 5 years behind when it comes to online play.

Free is always a good thing, but where the hell is a lobby system. DOA4 had it right. I miss fighting with all of my friends while the others watched and waited for a turn.

Jesus H, what was the last game that had a free upgrade to have new achievements? Are some of you 12 and just X-box nerds or something? An as said in the statement, the input thing is for 'review' of a match, not like you get to see it as it happens. It's cool to look at after you get your ass kicked, or after you kick some ass. I'm not the best SF4 player myself coz online everyone has to be Ryu or Ken, but I'm good enough at SF games to last me some time.

i see alot of ppl complain about capcom for makin resident evil 5 versus mode being 400msp and sf4 champ mode free. but its not capcom that makes the prices for the dlc there just the sponsers for the ppl who make the game. all they do is put up the money so the creator of the game can make it but its the creator of the game who decides how much a dlc will be not the sponser.
