Alpha Protocol Dev Diary #2

Alpha Protocol Dev Diary #2
Written Friday, April 03, 2009 by Dan Webb

Alpha Protocol for me is my dream game. Just having the ability to step into the shoes of someone like Jack Bauer or Jason Bourne, if only for a few hours, is something that is really appealing to myself. As you can tell, I'm a bit of an espionage fan.

What makes the game so much more appealing for me is the games studio behind it, so not only do I get that game I've been after for so long, but Obsidian, a studio with great pedigree (KOTOR and Neverwinter Knights) are creating it. For me, it's win, win.

The second dev diary, released today, explores more things that Alpha Protocol will attempt to tackle, with choice playing a major part again.

I am definitely excited for this, but I'm a sucker for RPG's. Hopefully the real world setting actually works or this game.

Looks like the bastard son of Mass Effect, Fallout and Splinter Cell.

Wow, this almost seems like a late April Fool's prank with how scripted the developers sound. "Branching real time RPG elements experimental branching story-based character customization real time branching etc." Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of a spy/secret agent Mass Effect game but it looks like they need to worry about making the game LOOK better instead of making it sound more appealing.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
