Dante's Inferno Media Eruption

Dante's Inferno Media Eruption
Written Wednesday, February 25, 2009 by Dan Webb

The team behind the critically acclaimed Dead Space, EA Redwood Shores, today released some screens and a trailer for their upcoming Dante's Inferno title.

The game will be based on the first part of the Divine Comedy poem by Italian maestro Dante Alighieri which is widely acknowledged as one of the most renonwed pieces of literature to grace this planet.

The God of War-esque third person hack-n-slash title looks to be in an early stage from the screens below but the trailer does look dark  and shiny ... a contradiction of terms if ever there was one.

There is a typo in the news' title "Dane's inferno". I can't wait to know more about this game even if I didn't play Dead Space it sounds promising

This game looks absolutely awesome from the vid, played Dead Space and thought that Redwood shores did a great job and will probably get this.

Only thought is how they are gonna follow the storyline of Dante's Inferno and make it a good game to play.

Yawn...another hack and slash. Looks like Onimusha though, which was good back in the day. Still, another hack and slash, come on.

God of War + Diablo = Dante's Inferno.

Looks awesome. I can't wait for some gameplay vids. This will be one of those rare games that I buy new at launch and don't wait for a price drop or a used copy.

*Sigh*
Am I the only person that doesn't want to play this game? It's clear they're are seriously divulging away from the actual poem. It annoys me since I actually liked Dante's Inferno.

Hell, my favourite EPIC is going to have a (very liberal)
videogame adaption.
No doubt videogames are culture now, even if they take a more "creative" approach.

I am very eager to seem the images they are going to create
in the circles (people bathing in boiling oil, entombed with their feet only above the ground, being flogged, etc).

Though it shows a lot of promise I think we are going to battle monsters and the references to the book are going to be the bosses (Lucifer should be beautifull) only.

Either way, they will get my money and I sure hope there is a Collector's Edition!

Looks like it could be good. It won't be able to compare to God of War. And sadly, it looks like a straight rip off.

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 @ 10:05:20 AM

#28 and anyone else used the words "rip off". god of war is pretty much a rip off as is all other hack n slashes rip offs until to get down to whatever the original one is, because nothing is original these days.

Now with that said, this trailer looks awesome. Though I'm sure the game itself will have truely nothing to do with the context of The Divine Comedy itself I'm sure the game will be a fun game with great cutscenes and typical hack and slash gameplay. These games really aren't that hard to screw up, most of them in my opinion lack good storylines (or none at all) and terrible inbetween game videos to watch, which causes skipping and creates a boring game. This is something that EA can easily turn upside down and make a great storyline out of....Good Luck to you and give us somet

Yeah, mark me down as very interested. Just hope the game is as creative as it appears to be stylistically in the gameplay department. I'd better not turn into a typical hack and slash.

@ 16... HA HA.

This can't be any worse than the animated Beowulf...? I do hope it starts a trend though. I would like to see a game where you play as DaVinci and invent badassery. Or Shakespeare (...Blake...) in his own hack and slash plays.

why do people even say that this game is a rip off of that game anymore? sounds like hater fanboy garbage to me. developers will always be inspired by good games, if you dont wanna play it that's cool, i'll be playing it when it comes out though.

If anyone has read Dantes Inferno then they would agree that this game is going to be great. Its up to EA to make some good gameplay, so if this game has gameplay like Dead Space and they stick to the original story line of Dantes Inferno then this game will be fantastic.

I have read Dante's Inferno - and I can't see how this game is gonna be great, I really don't recall reading about an elusive character hacking and tearing his way through the underworld, I recall Dante simply visiting Hell and seeing it's Circles -- So I dunno what you mean by "stick to the original storyline" #36.

This just pisses all over the Divine Comedy....Probably still get it though.

While I don't doubt that Dante's descriptions of Hell would make an awesome background for this kind of game, you can't exactly call it following the story if there's much action from the main character other than asking Vergil what's going on...a lot. Of course, the real problem is if it's so successful they try to turn it into a trilogy...while Purgatorio might work, what are you going to do in Paradiso, hack and slash your way through Thomas Aquinus and the Virgin Mary?

I enjoyed the Divine Comedy and whilst I don't expect this to follow it in any way apart from including the characters, beasts and demons from it I still think the game will be pretty cool. I loved Dead Space, one of the best games of 2008 imo.

I imagine the minotaur, she-wolf and charon will all be in it.

Just stop this game's production now. Hell is something needed, and people who try to fight it are either retards or those who don't understand the point of religion. Personally, I find this an insult to many religions.

It has got nothing to do with not understanding the point of hell and everything to do with attempting to create something enjoyable. Many people may find religion an insult to truth, freedom and science. For all we know hell does not exist so why not take mythology and create your own spin on it? Dante's Divine Comedy itself borrows heavily from Greek and Roman mythology and not just from Christianity. If u were Islamic u would find it insulting because Mohammed is in one of the bottom circles of Hell.

Religion is bs anyway .. its all a set of lies made up to make you believe what is "evil" is morally wrong. Darwin had it right when he talks about people evolving from apes, because it seems like you still have the mind set of one.

Well i like the idea of inferno being a backstory but dante's charecter didnt see much action. O well looks like it might be a decent God of War rip-off

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
