Burnout Paradise Legendary Cars Priced Written Tuesday, February 17, 2009 by Dan Webb Criterion today announced the prices for their upcoming Legendary Cars DLC for Burnout Paradise and it's not easy listening, so get ready to cringe. For three of the cars due for release this Thursday, the price sits at 160 points per car; those three being the Manhattan Spirit (Ghostbusters), the Carson Nighthawk (Knight Rider) and the Cavalry Bootlegger (Dukes of Hazard). The one everyone wants, AKA the 88 Special, AKA The Delorean from Back to the Future, will set you back 320 points, which may be a little rich for even the cash happy spenders out there. Did anyone tell Criterion there was a recession on? If you're interested in the lot, you could shell out 600 points and save yourself a couple of hundred points. Question is; can you resist the Delorean lure or will you be shelling out 320 points to take this bad boy for a spin?
Special 88 = 320 points
Manhattan Spirit, Carson Nighthawk, Cavalry Bootlegger = 160 points eachFor more Burnout Paradise screens, check out the full game gallery here. | |

![]() | Comment #2 by tearzofblood718 Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 01:16:29 PM wow! thats alot of points for some cars |
![]() | Comment #3 by crazyoaktree Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 01:16:53 PM A bit steep |
![]() | Comment #4 by X Ray Hamburger Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 01:18:52 PM Man and here I thought they were going to charge 80 points a car... |
![]() | Comment #5 by Drewbles Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 01:18:54 PM that is disgusting. thats just way to expensive, id agree with the price if the cars actually looked like the ones mentioned. this week alone just buying the lastest DLC, GTA, Rock band, Burnout etc it just adds up and puts me off getting any of them. |
![]() | Comment #6 by COBOLisCOOL Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 01:20:26 PM If you buy the pack it is only 150 per car |
![]() | Comment #7 by FourChan Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 01:23:06 PM Lame they said the cars and crap would be free. I'll pick these up someday but not in the near future. |
![]() | Comment #8 by abigfrog Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 01:24:54 PM Not the best value for money around! |
![]() | Comment #9 by JJ Bombay Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 01:27:25 PM Looks pretty sick! |
![]() | Comment #10 by jak d ripr Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 01:30:57 PM All y'all should stop complaining, considering how many free pacs criterion have given out i think selling these for exorbitant prices is justified. |
![]() | Comment #11 by K1D R4C3R Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 01:37:21 PM It may be a little expensive, but Criterion has gave so much free stuff and the cars look AWESOME I can live with it. |
![]() | Comment #12 by JNix22 Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 01:38:21 PM That's not fair! |
![]() | Comment #13 by jaferris Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 01:47:14 PM i agree with the first comment there been a lot of free content for burnout paradise more than most games i think that charging for something optional is better say having to pay for the bike update that would of sucked a lot more the game keeps updating and the features are brilliant i think the price of these are coming from microsoft and sony probably wanting to generate more income |
![]() | Comment #14 by danowat32 Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 01:54:59 PM As much as it pains me to say this, considering Critereons background in producing top class free DLC, this is too much money. I get confused with DLC pricing, its almost like they rely on a random number generator to decide the price. Forza 2 DLC was 400pts for 11 cars!!! , Test drive unlimited was 350pts for 6 cars, which also included FULL interior modelling!!!!. 600pts for 4 cars, that don’t have realistic physics modelling, or interior modelling is a little crazy. |
![]() | Comment #15 by INFERNOII Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 02:00:48 PM The Delorean justifies all. |
![]() | Comment #16 by DudeWithTheFace Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 02:02:11 PM I was expecting 100 pts per car. Kinda lame, but at least the 150 per car is somewhat reasonable. What is really dirty though is the fact that they are pretty much forcing you to buy the 4 pack if you want the delorean. |
![]() | Comment #17 by zyxomma100 Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 02:06:19 PM Normally I'd be up in arms, but Criterion's past performance with DLC more than makes up for this. I'd buy it just to support their DLC model. (And say what you want about other racing games' DLC, this is much better). |
![]() | Comment #18 by GreaseMonkeyGB Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 02:26:17 PM D'OH! |
![]() | Comment #19 by Gooner Rhyle Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 02:33:08 PM Let me be clear on this - I'm buying it - but add me to the 'slightly disgruntled' list. In spite of the free DLC they've already delivered they should, in fact they have a responsibility, to fairly price their DLC and this doesn't seem fair. What Criterion have done in the past should have no bearing on the pricing for these so-called premium packs. |
![]() | Comment #20 by Alshain Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 02:46:24 PM They released the Bikes update and the 1.6 update for free. Finally asking for a few points is not out of line for these. 600 points is less than $10. If you factor in all of the free content as well as these cars, you've been given a ton of goodies. I was hoping we could get all of them for 400 points, but really I think they've been more than generous in the past. You want unreasonable? 1200 points for all of the Stranglehold DLC. No one plays that game and they still want 1200 points! Or how about $5 for Darth Vader in Soul Calibur 4? One character for $5. That's unreasonable. |
![]() | Comment #21 by ash356 Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 02:47:52 PM @10 If everyone keeps on using that excuse, they're constantly gonna get away with it. Same with the party pack, people said the exact same about that. @#7 They never said the pack would be free, i don't know where your info comes from, but it sure as hell ain't reliable. Waste of money IMO, especially considering Forza 2 was giving out 10 cars a pack for 400 points, and you could tune them and everything. I'm with everyone else with the "giving previous DLC away free" argument, but considering the fact paradise has barely anyone on it anymore (If the fact that the other day it said there were only 2000 crashes in one day is trustworthy), you'd expect them to at least have lower prices. I might buy the delorean, but aside from that, i think i'd rather buy Pacman. |
![]() | Comment #22 by Wawa G Owns Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 03:02:37 PM I'm not buying these because Burnout Paradise is so repetitive and 320 points, even though the car flys that's crazy. |
![]() | Comment #23 by DarkRedSky Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 03:02:49 PM It's about time Criterion started charging for their product. I don't see any reason they shouldn't charge this much for some pretty sweet rides. |
![]() | Comment #24 by x Day Zero Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 03:17:41 PM Yeah I love the game but no thanks in my opinion. |
![]() | Comment #25 by LausDomini Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 03:20:36 PM At least there's not an achievement for buying/driving each car. Pass. |
![]() | Comment #26 by Lukeweizer Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 03:28:31 PM They're probably not even worth that much. They won't be over-powered. I don't feel any commitment to Paradise because of all that free DLC. None of it really changed the game experience. Ooooohhh... night driving! I have it switched to permanent day because I can't see shit at night. And I always use a car because the bike crashes are boring. |
![]() | Comment #27 by Tenacious Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 03:37:24 PM You guys disgust me. They've given you so much for free, and they ask for 600 points in return for a freaking DELOREAN, and 3 other cars. Come on. |
![]() | Comment #28 by Judivarious Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 03:40:07 PM I guess I will be going back to the future to pick these up :D |
![]() | Comment #29 by alexsimms Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 03:46:35 PM I'll wait a bit, then go back to the future to snag em. Lame... |
![]() | Comment #30 by Wishwash182 Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 04:16:17 PM Some of you people need to stop moaning really, all the stuff you got for free and then they ask for a few points for some badass looking cars and u moan. Really i remember when they released bike and stuff etc for free and people were still moaning! |
![]() | Comment #31 by asilent boom Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 04:36:52 PM @26 i could not of said it better, 600pts is way to much for 10 minutes of enjoyment because thats all i would play it for it brings no new experience. Just bring out the island already, if thats more than 800pts i'll laugh and trade my game in. |
![]() | Comment #32 by Darth Logo Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 04:43:26 PM Hey, these are some awesome cars. I'm not even a fan of the racing genre, and have never played this game, but if I were a fan of the games, I would probably shell out the points just to go back to the future or be a Ghostbuster! It'd be sweet! |
![]() | Comment #33 by turboskerv Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 05:02:56 PM Cars are cool, but I am SO over this game! |
![]() | Comment #34 by Reclaiming Dawn Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 05:16:31 PM these are great cars, from a fantastic developer (that has been giving out free stuff for ages), for a fantastic game... i think the prices are perfect. |
![]() | Comment #35 by Webb Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 05:17:44 PM I don't care how much Criterion have given, charging 320 points for a car is the same as that bloody horse armour ... just a bit cooler :P They knew the Delorean was the coolest car so they jacked the price to double the others. What type of signal does that send out? |
![]() | Comment #36 by ash356 Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 05:23:33 PM Exactly what i was thinking Webb:) IMO the only car that looks remotely like what its supposed to be is the nightrider one, and i didn't even like (or for that matter watch) that show. Even the delorean doesn't look like its film version http://redlightnaps.files.wordpress.com/2007/08/delorean1.jpg And guys, the argument about free DLC is seriously getting old. They gave us one big piece of free DLC and new challenges, big deal. In the article they say "for JUST $7.99 / €7.99 / £6.29 / 600 MS" You know as if 600MS points for 4 cars is a bargain. Why don't they just stop building DLC and make a new burnout? I want a full new game, not a DLC ridden-hard drive memory wasting mess. I loved this game and still do, but criterion, maybe you need to stop "flogging a dead horse" and move on t |
![]() | Comment #37 by Reclaiming Dawn Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 05:23:55 PM well it can do more than the other cars.. it's obviously the main car in the pack i dunno, i guess i don't mind paying a few measly bucks for unique cars in a game i like. *shrug* it's really not at all like horse armor... this is a car action racing game, if it were a horse action racing game then yeah it would be similar oblivion is an RPG and horses are almost a non-issue this game is all about cars |
![]() | Comment #38 by allen t is on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 05:26:57 PM ehh ill prob still buy em but its a little hig priced |
![]() | Comment #39 by Grim Reaper Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 05:38:43 PM ripoff |
![]() | Comment #40 by FatalFlaw810 Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 05:48:58 PM I might pick this game up to take the cars for a spin ;) |
![]() | Comment #41 by Dragon Antares Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 05:59:43 PM The price does seem a little high, but you have to rememmber all the time and work put into each one. Besides the game was very inexpensive, and for most people now it is only about $20. The DLC prices in my opinion are quite resonable. |
![]() | Comment #42 by Grimgravy57 Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 06:21:03 PM Im guessin it was really expensive to get the merchandising rights for the cars |
![]() | Comment #43 by the_legion Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 06:38:17 PM @#42 doubt it as the cars look like the counterparts but are no replicas and dont really use the car names, i for one am picking this up, i'd rather see new DLC for a game than yet another yearly game that you gotta pay $60 for |
![]() | Comment #44 by PimpinIsntEasy Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 06:47:35 PM -reasonable- |
![]() | Comment #45 by WEEJOK Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 06:53:26 PM If these were ready to come out so soon after the party pack then why weren't they added to Burnout Paradise Ultimate Box version? Will we be seeing a Totally Ultimate version in 8 months time with the new cars, the new island, toy cars and cops and robbers add ons? I'm done with this game until the new island comes out and hopefully adds more achievements.I like these cars but don't think they are worth getting just now, I've completed everything so I'd be spending 600 points just to drive round (or hover!) for a while. Might pick them up at a later date if the new island adds a lot of gameplay. |
![]() | Comment #46 by Destiny900 Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 07:07:16 PM this is gonna be sick |
![]() | Comment #47 by SaintKnight Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 07:09:17 PM I'll be getting the Knight Rider car and the Delorean once I get this game this weekend =) |
![]() | Comment #48 by Blue Radium Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 07:50:32 PM I have done just about everything possible in this game. If they release some DLC that requries a large amount of play time, I may buy this along with it as I will get some use out of the cars. All I could do with them now I try to complete all 490 challenges, which I don't plan on trying to do. |
![]() | Comment #49 by crunchb3rry Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 08:29:11 PM It's an absolute insult to charge more for one car. I guess their reasoning is the poor developers (who already collect a paycheck, regardless of DLC...which I'm sure does not raise their wages even if everyone in the world buys it) had to do extra work to make one hover instead of roll around on tires. |
![]() | Comment #50 by EATatJOES 07 Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 08:29:24 PM soo cool want to buy |
![]() | Comment #51 by Muhnamana Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 08:35:44 PM @#1 - I have to agree with you on that. I'll fork over a little extra cash for these cars, even when the economy is in turmoil. |
![]() | Comment #52 by Veles Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 08:42:53 PM If they weren't just modified versions of old cars it would be ok. |
![]() | Comment #53 by icytower38 Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 09:17:21 PM I think I'll pass on the cars. Once the island is released i might rethink the cars if the price has come down some. |
![]() | Comment #54 by bapae Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 10:22:29 PM 320 points for a single car thats kindda insane. why not offer all the cars in one pack for like 400-600 that would be a bit more resonable |
![]() | Comment #55 by shredderman5664 Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 10:25:51 PM Back to my old routine I guess, sell a bunch of games to get 20 bucks out of it. *sigh* |
![]() | Comment #56 by SkyChat Tuesday, February 17, 2009 @ 11:07:15 PM I spend my cash on TLAD so no thanks. too pricy. |
![]() | Comment #57 by Music Man SUB Wednesday, February 18, 2009 @ 03:23:00 AM @#53 Read the damn article man, it says you can buy them all in one pack for 600 points... OT: 4 cars, 600 points... It may be a bit steep but I've about 200 hours in this game and I still like it + all the effort that went into this game... I must say that I think this price is better then what they charged for the party pack... that was rediculous... |
![]() | Comment #58 by HeatGuyStu Wednesday, February 18, 2009 @ 06:31:51 AM Pricing in no different than how Namco handled the release of new plans in Ace Combat 6 (granted no one really liked that either). More desirable planes cost more than the less desirable ones. Basic economics really. EA are suffering right now in the current climate so doesn't surprise me at all they've jacked the price up on the Delorean. Not particuarly fair to us, but makes good business sense for them. Altho be interesting to see if any lawsuits result from the release of the Special 88... |
![]() | Comment #59 by Nuffzx Wednesday, February 18, 2009 @ 07:47:32 AM They look so yummy, I wish they would have achievements then I would probbly buy them... |
![]() | Comment #60 by yogibear4174 Wednesday, February 18, 2009 @ 07:51:52 AM for that price...ya i would....1400 MP then get party pack + these |
![]() | Comment #61 by PuttyGod Wednesday, February 18, 2009 @ 07:56:42 AM Sucks since they were doing so well with all the free stuff. |
![]() | Comment #62 by ibeatnu69 Wednesday, February 18, 2009 @ 09:43:06 AM Balls. 800mp for the lame party pack, now charging for cars. And what we got 2 free bikes awesome. |
![]() | Comment #63 by Beau Coup Dinky Dau Wednesday, February 18, 2009 @ 01:39:03 PM Gimmy the four cars AND the party pack for 600pts and I'm in. Otherwise...PASS. |
![]() | Comment #64 by spilner100 Wednesday, February 18, 2009 @ 02:00:26 PM if only they had some form of achievements with them, still gunna buy them as this game is wat i play the most as i get bored of other games as i to have 200+ hours in game, n over 4000miles in the hawker solo alone |
![]() | Comment #65 by Fighterspledge Wednesday, February 18, 2009 @ 05:36:26 PM I think they're paying for usage rights for the car types. Kinda like how songs on RB2 are kinda expensive. Just paying the royalties. I'll support em. |
![]() | Comment #66 by spilner100 Thursday, February 19, 2009 @ 03:07:19 AM good point especially as the 88 special has flames come out of the wheels, thats just too much like the deloreon |
