Resident Evil Viral # 2 - The Date

Resident Evil Viral # 2 - The Date
Written Tuesday, January 27, 2009 by Dan Webb

Whilst it's not as cryptic and utterly pointless as some viral we've seen in the past, the latest Resident Evil 5 viral video is definitely worth a watch. The slow, eerie build up in the video titled, "The Date", ends with a bang as it leads to some gameplay that we've not yet had the pleasure of feasting our eyes upon.

I'm with Sgt Monkey on this. I love Zombie games and everything, but the controls just plain suck ass if you ask me. The graphics are excellent and the story might be excellent or it might not be, but nothing will get me to play this game so long as it has those controls. The characters look like professional hit men and they can't shoot while moving? Seems kind of stupid.

But to kind of save myself here. I'm new to Resident Evil. I have never played any other Resident Evil game mainly because I only got into gaming this gen.

the very unfortunate thing that alot of people dont know about the demo(thank god i figured it out before hand), is that there's a control setting specifically designed from RE4. its incredibly easier than the crappy default. too bad some people won't notice it. still getting the game though.

Tuesday, January 27, 2009 @ 10:27:46 PM

these controls are basically the same thing as RE4 which i dont think anyone had a problem with, and not moving while shooting has been a tradition in the Resident Evil series. it makes the game harder and more fun that way, so if you can't stand in one spot and shoot something go play Halo or Gears and let die hard RE fans have their fun

Tuesday, January 27, 2009 @ 10:33:50 PM

i'm not a die hard fan and re 5 demo is the first time i played re but i'm used to the controls now i love. but being able to move would be nice

Before judging RE you have to understand that its not like Halo or L4D or something like that. You're supposed to go slow and conserve ammo, kind of like Dead Space, just to a further extent. Also, in the demo, it helps to turn the sensitivity up to the highest setting, it made it vastly more playable for me.

Comment #23 by Ace Of Dawn
Tuesday, January 27, 2009 @ 11:22:12 PM

Not being able to move while shooting is actually adds a few great effects to the game. One, it makes it far more challenging since you can't just run and gun into any situation.

More importantly, it adds a lot of tension since while firing, your targets are getting that much closer to you.

It actually requires you to think about what your next move should be. Fire that bullet, or get the hell out of there. Of course, this is what annoys me about a lot of games today, it is there to appease the majority of people who don't want to think, and simply run and gun into any situation.

*Sigh* Oh well, can't wait to get this game. Game of the year!

Tuesday, January 27, 2009 @ 11:36:35 PM

Wow, whoever talks shit about the RE4/RE5 system must like their games spoon-fed to them and not enjoy any challenge whatsoever. That's what the gaming audience is becoming nowadays.

Okay, I didnt play the games in the past, and I was hoping this one would be good. I went into it with an open mind, and though the controls, at first, were frustrating, I got used to them. Once you're used to the controls, it makes the game a little easier. Now, what I will say is that it obviously is not easy even knowing the controls. Not moving while shooting, I'm fine with. I do agree that it adds to the challenge of the game, and I like something that is awesome and challenging. I love this demo, I play it (almost) constantly, and I'm super super excited for the game. I'll say, the online co-op thing was a big boost for me to want to buy it, too. The only real thing I have an issue with is choosing characters. I wish I could choose which one I want to be, rather than being s

I like that so many people are ripping on the controls. Why because it's something actually...different? Try to play through RE 4 and tell me it's not a good game, same controls. RE 5 has amazing graphics, the story looks to be promising, and now includes co-op. This game is a for sure winner. Best game of the year, hands down.

Go ahead haters, rip me apart. I know this is going to be a great game.

Wednesday, January 28, 2009 @ 01:32:31 AM

It's true that older RE games had the tradition of having to stop to shoot your weapon, but that's because older horror/thriller games thrived on having crappy controls. The games were scary because you had crappy controls to deal with; it made it hectic. While it does continue to make the RE series a frantic, challenging survival horror, I think we're beyond that now.. even on the "Fastest" aiming setting, I still have to draaaag my characters arms around to aim anywhere, and you can barely see anything around you while you're running, never mind standing in one place when I decide to use a firearm..

zombies...? more like cannibals i mean come on stereotypical zombies DON'T wield items, CANNOT communicate with other zombies but DO eat flesh/brains the only thing the "Zombies" in the latest Res'Ev series have in common is the eat flesh/brains. so i ask again Zombies?

Stayin' on topic Demo seems ace, controls bit naff but I'll get over it i s'pose =] Capcom FTW!

Yo, #18, I hear you, but for christ's sake, I don't think the game can make up it's mind what it is. Granted, the controls are more similar to the old 1/2/3 style, but at the same time, it's just trying to be more of a shooter with more ammo, faster zombies and none of the puzzle-solving (That has been shown).

amazing graphics, but I canceled my reserve after playing the demo. I have never played any of the other RE games. Controls are strange. When playing on co-op, I hated trying to give my partner ammo. Most of the time I would die trying to help him/her out. Everyone told me the aiming system has been the same for all the games, but you would think by the 5th game, someone would think to change a bad thing(in my opinion). I will stick to L4D a while longer.

Co-op is a VERY nice addition, but I think I'm going to play through the game by myself first, you won't get the full experience playing with someone over XBL for the first time, maybe it would be better to play split screen before playing over xbl. Ya know, with the more experienced players (ME :D) taking the lead and plowing through everything without the other players having a chance to do much... That takes away from the fun. Besides, you never get through a whole campaign over XBL do you? Not to mention the douche bags that skip all the cutscenes and story elements...

These fools who are hating on the Resi, have no idea what they're talking about. The first few were amazing but did start to get pretty samey around Code Veronica (which was still ace) but Resi 4 was MIND BLOWINGLY good, and Resi 5 seems to take it from there. The controls are fine, same as Resi 4, just get used to them and you'll be running around crying at hordes of monsters that never seem to die.

Only thing wrong with RE5 is that the controls were never going to be as good as the Wii Edition.

Other than that what more was expected I'm not quite sure.

Wednesday, January 28, 2009 @ 01:18:47 PM

LOL when you cant shoot everywhere while running without thinking xbox players are lost. RE is not a shooter, its a survival, you need to watch your ammo and now partner ammo too so you can help him. And I will say in real life you cant aim while running when you shoot. You can aim a bit but you will move soo much your accuracy will be almost at zero unless your at 5 feet of your target.

Its a survivor guys , not a shooter . When you get used to control it work really well. People whining here never played games before xbox original I say.

well at least some people understand what im aiming for here. you can rip and tear at Resident Evil 5 all you want, but if you look at it in a way that the only games you've played have been CoD, Gears and Halo you don't understand the full effect of this game. there is no way in hell RE will ever be a "shooter", its as what Fyzban said a survival where you need to watch your ammo and your partners ammo too. and as for the so called "zombies" you guys talk about, they're not zombies, they are human beings playing host to a virus like the plagas in RE4, so they will still be able to weild weapons and drive vehicles and such. and #58, the controls for the Wii were to easy, still loved the game and the fact taht the aiming was faster, but honestly that made the game to easy, so i just pop

Everyone that thinks that the controllers sucks.
Then you probably never played Resident Evil 4, because it was the same controllers there. And guess what, it was said that it had the most perfect controller of all time. And Dead Rising uses the same thing, when aiming u stand still. I think you're all to used to play Call of Duty and shit that you have forget how a good controller is.
