Roy Orbison Invades Rock Band Tomorrow

Roy Orbison Invades Rock Band Tomorrow
Written Monday, January 05, 2009 by Dan Webb

I report this news in a state of disbelief because I'm pretty sure that Roy Orbison being announced as Rock Band DLC is one of the four signs of the apocalypse. The end of the world is nigh! I tells thee! Either way, big Roy Orbison is heading to Rock Band 2 as DLC. Why? Who knows, I'd like to say fan feedback but we know that's not the case.

Fair enough Roy Orbison is a bit of an industry legend as far as staying power goes., I mean he's up there with Cliff Richard, but that doesn't mean that he has a place in Rock Band. Lips maybe, but not Rock Band. Next up, the Cliff Richard rock pack kicking off with Summer Holiday and finishing off with Mistletoe and Wine *sigh*

Anyway, the 6 tracks are as follows and are available tomorrow. Same price per track  (160) and of course, 800 for the lot.

1. “Claudette”
2. “In Dreams”
3. “Mean Woman Blues”
4. “Oh, Pretty Woman”
5. “Ooby Dooby”
6. “You Got It”
(All tracks are original master recordings)

Very cool! Those are fun songs, and a very surprising addition to the game. Well played, HMX. :)

Oh god no, my dad loves singing this crap on the PS3 Karaoke games and now this is gonna bring him to the 360. He usually sings 'Oh, Pretty Woman' but oh well I don't like Rock Band much as drum pedal sucks and the guitar doesnt have that clicky noise like guitar hero which is helpful

Webb why would this be better off in lips? You know that you can sing in Rock Band right?

Honestly this is exactly what they need to give to vocalists to offset the stuff like that one guitarist they added recently with the fucked up name.

I for one am DL the entire 800 pt bundle... Roy Orbison has influenced a ton of great Rock Bands.... A little band called Van Hallen, a guy named Tom Petty, even legends like George Harrison, and Bob Dylan. So back of Ol' Roy... On a side note want to hear a great CD, pick up The Traveling Wilburys......

I can't get my head past his elvis-like looks (fat Elvis). Thank god my parents don't know about this.

lol Seb, of course. But the last time I checked, Roy Orbison wasn't a band :P

This from the guy who likes No Doubt? Give me a bit of Roy any day, now if only there was some Travelling Wilburys DLC in the pipeline.

So awesome :) More old school music and Elvis and stuff like that. No new crappy music.

This is really awesome. Everyone who trashes Orbison doesn't know much about good music. And denying that his music should be in RB is a sentiment beyond me. He is one of the forefathers of classic American rock music.

Only reason I know this guy is because my dad owns a DVD release of Black and White Night. I find it interesting that he was put in RB, but I really like that they release random stuff like this.

Well, I for one am glad I spent most of my MSP on Arcade games, since the upcoming GHWT DLC is country songs (which my sister made me get in Rock Band, ugh). Oh well, still waiting for the epic that is Guitar Hero: Metallica.

Well its better then the country music pack. Can't even call it Rock Band anymore. Dixie chicks would look great in a centerfold...thats about it.

Man, what is happening to Rock Band lately? First the country pack and now this. I like some Roy Orbison songs but it really doesn't belong in this game, it will be good for vocalists and maybe some might be ok on guitar but thats it. Harmonix need to bring out DLC that people actually want to buy.

i guess its all about what genre of music you like. I myself would not buy this but some people would and i guess that is what HMX wants.....and i am assuming he is a good vocalist since everyone is mentioning vocals??? =P

I can finally get my old man to do some singing on RB2, it was hard enough to get him to play the drums but now its going to be cake to get him to sing lol.

I knew some of the songs, but i was never aware of who sang them. Looks like i might pick up "You Got It" and possibly "Oh, Pretty Woman".
Now i'm just waiting for some Smokie. Those guys are classic.

Very good news, this. Orbison is one of the greatest and most-influential vocalists/writers in popular music history. Even if we won't get hardcore difficultly instrument charts from these songs, we WILL get some of the best songs to actually sing. The game needs more of those types, really.

Fuck yeah Roy Orbison has one of the best voices ever. Mean Women Blues has some pretty good guitar in it too.

Fantastic!!! This is great news, some good quality songs to play and ENJOY playing them, unlike some songs on the disc (Paramore, WTF?! That's MUSIC?!). Don't get me wrong I love music in all styles, but this emo crap is just so boring. It reminds me of the last dearth of talent. I shudder at Nu-metal...

This is awesome news! I am hoping that now that Guitar Hero Metallica is coming out maybe the metal lovers will shut up for a while with their own game to play. People say this good music doesn't belong on "rock" band, but they have to keep in mind, it's not necessarily "metal" band either.
A definite Buy!

METAL BAND!

Pre-order @ Gamestop & receive a free neck brace! Signed by SLIPKNOT!

Ok. How would that not be cool?

All joking aside, I'm glad they're putting some more variety in the game. It takes cajonés to put in what's not expected. It's Rock Band. Not Guitar/Bass/Drums/$^&# the Singer Band

Bring on some Petrucci tho :P

Thank god. This is the first time since CCR on RB1's release date that we've gotten oldies. Everybody can cry their stupid asses off about how a genre gets ignored, but 0 songs in one year = ENTIRELY ignored. Roy Orbison is the man, the goddamn Beatles OPENED for the guy. I'll definitely buy this.

I don't have the game, but it's a good job this isn't the only DLC i have seen - otherwise i might not have ordered it.

Stinks of Guitar Hero World Tour too much for these nostrils.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
