Was NXE Worth it on Microsoft's End? Short Answer: Yes!
Written Tuesday, December 11, 2007 By James Parkin

So, now that the NXE is out and about in the wild, the question at hand is, was it worth it for Microsoft? Thanks to Major Nelson we have a handful of stats on the NXE.

  • If LIVE were a U.S. city, it would be the largest city with over 14-million members. The equivalent of New York City, Los Angeles and Chicago combined.
  • Since the New Xbox Experience launched on Nov. 19 the number of new friends added per Xbox LIVE member has risen by 33%.
  • Xbox LIVE is not just games: With more than 45 global network and studio partners, and Netflix in the U.S., we offer more than 30,000 movies, TV episodes and music videos in both high and standard definition.
  • In the past year the average number of unique visitors to Xbox LIVE each day has risen 66%
  • Movie downloads increased 49% and TV episode downloads were up 30% the week after launch
  • Xbox LIVE Arcade sales almost tripled in the first week after the New Xbox Experience launched
  • Avatar-specific titles like A Kingdom for Keflings registered the second-best first week of performance ever
  • UNO which was updated to include in-game Avatars, saw a 650% increase in sales in just one day
[Thanks Major Nelson]

Wow! Did you personally contribute to any of the above? Let us know in the comments.

I bought Uno soon after the NXE's release, also bought Keflings on release too, both great arcades. :) Shame we can't access Netflix in the UK

I love the update! The avatars are neat and WERE NOT STOLEN FROM THE WII! They were going to do that at 360's launch but chose the other.

I now have 30 people on my friends list, which annoys me greatly, always get let down by someone coming online when I think i have popped an achievement.

Personally I can't see how it could fail. It's retained the blades in a more compact way, added plenty of new features, and the avatars are pretty humourous to be fair.

IMO, the biggest difference has been made by the party chat. Absolutely brilliant, 6 of us playing COD: WW, and we don't have to listen to those irritating people who breath down the mic. like Darth Vader or scream obsenities for no particular reason. Plus the fact we can chat whilst dead on S&D is fantastic! Speaking from the dead, awesome!

Congrats. to MS for the update, only thing i've noticed is that the console takes longer to turn off than prior to the update, it's not a concern in my eyes but noticable.

And yeah forgot about the "Save games to HDD", never realised how much quieter it would make it! Thank you

Microsoft knows what they are doing. The sales of the 120 gig HDD's will go up. People want bigger HDD'd(like me) so they can download more games on the HDD

Party chat really adds to the "on the same couch but not really" feeling. A few days a go, a couple friends and I went into Rumble Pit on H3 so they could get 7 on 7. Not having to use D-Pad to talk, to actually be able to be like OMH!!!! after a kill without having to wait for a respawn and PTT...

AWESOME
