Crazy Capcom Resident Evil 5 Viral Begins

Crazy Capcom Resident Evil 5 Viral Begins
Written Tuesday, December 09, 2008 by Dan Webb

Man, I just love viral. It's a form of advertising and game promotion that not only intrigues the hell out of me, but I often finds that it works a treat.

Late yesterday we received an intriguing e-mail from Capcom that was nothing but incessant ramblings which read as follows:

"It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju. It came from Kijuju."

Deep within the second paragraph of the e-mail was a link to, no other than the Resident Evil 5 site but more importantly, a page within it.

After going through the age gate at the beginning of the site, you are presented with a candle, a wall of writing and five numbers. The key to unlock the fifth number, to make it clickable, is to unlock the four numbers before it. However, it doesn't really give you much direction ... but I'm sure more will open up in the coming weeks.

The first gate by the number one contains nothing more than a strip of paper that obviously needs a password to move on to the next step. We can only presume each will get wackier and trickie, so ... happy viral cracking. We look forward to seeing it unfold.

I haven't played the other RE games, I am looking forward to trying this one. It's to see companies do fun stuff like this.

I have played Resident Evil games since RE2 and I still think that RE4 was the best and this should be very similar!

This has Game of the Year written all over it! Cannot wait! The achievements on the other hand, Capcom is always super tough!

i think they region locked the demo after awhile. you can find the demo on the net and burn it to a dvd and it will work, no modding required.

Wait, I am confused by some of the comments here concerning this Viral of RE5... Does it unlock a playable demo of the game? Did I read that right? Also if it does unlock a playable demo, is it for your PC or for your XBOX 360? Thanks in advance!

And yes of course I am super excited about RE 5 coming out this March! I can't wait to see the details on the Collector's Edition if they produce one!

I downloaded the demo and burned it to a DVD, but my 360 got the RROD last week, so I gotta wait about a week and a half to play it.

RE5 is destined to be great. There will be no doubt about that. As for those who haven't played the other Resident Evil's get on it. Especially number one where Chris Redfield is introduced as a protagonist in the series. Resident Evil is arguably the greatest video game franchises there have ever been. So get on the bandwagon and play it's not like were asking you to do drugs or maybe we are.

im one of the fans who prefer the original resident evil 1 2 and 3 games. 4 was ok but the first 3 were the best .fixed camera views so u didnt know what was around the corner and just an all round feeling of an actual zombiefest .

Does it have to be a dvd burner or could i use a regular cd burner?

If you want a true feel of a Zombiefest 28 days later style play Left 4 Dead. There all great games though. I liked four because of the length. A good long game is always good.

I downloaded the Japanese version of the demo, but I can't get past the Region Code error. Does anyone know how to bypass that?? And if you just download it to a disk does anyone have the website for that?? Thanks to those that can help.

@#15

They've already produced a CE for Japan. It's $130.00 dollars American. You can order that one from Capcom's website. According to Gamestop there will be a North American version that's much cheaper. I think it's locked in at a price of $89.99. The Japanese version is overpriced for absolutely nothing in it in retrospect. I think there is a USB drive in a special case that looks cool, but honestly not worth the price. Then there is a wristband pouch, and the regular art book that comes with most CE's.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
