Burnout Paradise 'Big Surf Island' Now to Cost Money

Burnout Paradise 'Big Surf Island' Now to Cost Money
Written Monday, December 01, 2008 by Dan Webb

In a Criterion podcast sometime ago, the dev team behind Burnout Paradise announced that the upcoming downloadable content, Big Surf Island, would in fact be free.

In a post over at the Criterion blog however, it seems like they've had a bit of a change of heart. It seems like it's a case of starting to build something small and then making something more epic than they originally planned ... or so they say.

"We’d mentioned in a previous podcast that this would be free content, but we can now confirm that it will be premium paid-for content ... We never expected to create anything this ambitious for the island, but as it progressed we got more and more excited about what it could become.  (In fact, that’s the story of all our Downloadable Content.)"

The Criterion guys want to make this piece of DLC, the highlight of their DLC year; they state that "Big Surf is the culmination of everything we learned creating Paradise City, and we want it to bring you a truly spectacular new experience – the highlight of a year of incredible premium content."

For more insight on the Big Surf Island, check out the Criterion blog.

Wow! Why not just say they're not going to work eternally for free. I'm sure gamers can take it... Especially considering you can get the game quite cheap and all the updates so far have been free. The way they present it now is like: "I was going to build a shed for free but got so excited, it turned out into a whole house so I'm gonna have to charge you for it..."

They really have given us alot free, and seriously who cares if it costs money if you don't like it dont buy it, I have a feeling this is gonna start to be the same as the GTA4 price announcement.

Well since I don't have this game, this doesn't mean a whole lot to me. Good that they are working hard on it!

If they're gonna charge for it, that's fair enough imo. They deserve it.

wtf? is all they want is money? make up for bloody mind, if you make free dlc you really can't make another and expect people to pay.......but it might be worth it

If we have to pay for it then there is no reason they can't add more achievements? It's a must buy for me if I can get some more fun gamerpoints to get me back playing Burnout Paradise.

It seems they desperately try to raise the game's quality by all the DLCs. I could be wrong too though as I haven't played the game. What do you guys think? Is the game good after all those updates and downloadable contents?

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
