Mirror's Edge Demo Out Now

Mirror's Edge Demo Out Now
Written Friday, October 31, 2008 by James Parkin

Great news everyone, the demo for Mirror's Edge is officially out on the marketplace for all Xbox LIVE regions! The demo consists of a tutorial that will guide you through the basics of movement and combat before you try out your skills in the prologue to the main game.

Just beat it. Was pretty fun, even if I wasn't very good at it. All the gameplay videos so far make it look easy, it's not so much as difficult, so much as trial and error most of the time.

I'll have to give this a go sometime over the weekend. That's if I can resist picking up a copy of Fallout 3, Dead Space or Far Cry 2.

This was really fun. Can't wait for the whole game. I was kind of afraid that it would be the same thing over and over again but I feel that it probably wont :)

Yeah, really as good as i pictured it to be. The Demo just assured me to pre-order the game today. Guess GoW2 will have to wait for some days/hours when Mirror's Edge is out. :)

Btw, did anyone get the Time Trials to work or won't they be available in the Demo at all? Would be nice to try out one or two of those...

I loved this Demo, has definately secured a purchase for me.

Hoernchen, Time Trials are only available for people who've Pre-Ordered already I think??

@ 12 - How does it work? If I preorder now, will I get a code straight away? Anyone heard anything about it because I'd go and preorder it RIGHT now just to get the time trial :P

watching the gameplay vids on tv have left me with a headache. I get the idea of the perspective viewpoint but I hate the foot/hand zipping into view in combat.

Still I'll check out the demo, maybe its a case of easy to play, queasy to watch

Easily as fun as it looks in the videos, just earned itself a pre-order =)

I thought the demo was awesome - even though i kept dying. It was still a blast to play. Even after dying so many times i kept wanting to try things a different way or push myself to get past a certain part. Cant wait to get this one. Good thing EA has DICE cause they dont have much of anything else.

WTF? It wasn't that bad, you just want to be different. Just cus everyone else likes it doesn't mean you have to despise it. Talk about reverse peer pressure or what?

@34
No. running aroung aroung and jumping onto buildings doesnt make for a fun game. and just because you sheep all flock to terrible games in droves doesnt mean im "trying to be different". a game simulating someone taking a shit would be less repetetive and more interesting and exciting. oh and crackhead- get over yourself.

Friday, October 31, 2008 @ 11:41:40 PM

Yeah Denny Crane, I bet a game where you RUN, JUMP, RUN is almost as repetitive as one where you SHOOT, RELOAD, SHOOT. Not to mention the one you describe where you SHIT, PUSH, SHIT.

Go And Pre Order at Best Buy and it will have a code inside the box to unlock the Time Trial Mode. I would imagine all places taking pre orders would have this, but i know Best Buy does cause I got one.

Denny Crane thinks Mirror's Edge is repetitive, yet he plays drivel like Marvel Ultimate Alliance. Douche-nozzle.

I agree with Denny that the game isn't good. But I have reasons other than "its repetitive". First, the controls are clunky as hell. Second, why first person? I get that they are trying to be innovative and what not, but the viewpoint does not lend it self well to what is really just a 3d platformer, and not a good platformer at that. And of course.. slow motion. Really? come on now, thats the best power you could come up with for your super innovative game? Slow fucking motion? thats NEVER been done before... right. all in all this game is a pile of mediocrity.

Comment #48 by Konman
Saturday, November 01, 2008 @ 12:42:15 PM

to add to what Agent # 47 said.... the fighting is really clunky and how can u disarm the guy by waiting for weapon to turn red when the screen is red from other dude shooting you...

now i'm extra excited to play it

@MadMartign

Did you message the Braid dev and tell him his game was unoriginal for the time bending?

I think not.

As others have said, It's a demo. The video after you finish the demo (you've finished it right?) shows a different side to the roof jumping.

Ever ran away from someone? The demo perfectly captures this with the music, the visuals and the tension it brings. I for one can't wait to play the final version. I just hope it doesn't have certain annoying bugs in it like when you slow time down and occasionally the sound screws up.

DICE in my eyes have done good. Carry on your trolling. :peace:

the demo was ok but this game will get repetitive ... this hasnt earned itself a purchase yet

Comment #53 by MadMartign

@geordiedeviant

The time controls in braid were extremely different than what you are seeing here. the slow motion in this game just feels tacked on. and again two totally separate games. Braid being a sidescrolling platformer not based in realism at all, and this , well at least from the way it plays and realworld physics and what not, trying to be realistic.

So, your argument holds no water.

I personally loved this game. The game is extremely fast paced. I love parkour, so this was instantly a must purchase after I played it. I don't think it's repetitive at all. Some people obviously won't enjoy it because you don't get to shoot people. Regardless, I love how quick the game handles. You can't play this game slowly at all. It's sprinting all the time.

You've played the demo right? Snatch a gun and then shoot someone.

No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
