Fallout 4 Survivor 2299 Teaser Site Confirmed to be a Hoax

The Fallout 4 'Survivor 2299' website has revealed as fake, and had been built in an effort to "force Bethesda to reveal something during VGX".

"Some men just want to watch the world burn," the hoax site's creator explained on Reddit. "I wanted to force Bethesda to reveal something during VGX, and bring [the Reddit] Fallout community together (for at least 3 weeks). Unfortunately, this plan failed."

Bethesda got in touch with the faker and demanded the site be taken down. Had it not been deactivated, a CGI trailer had been planned to troll Fallout fans visiting the site.

"I'm one of these 'selfish bastards with a lot of money' so I wanted to release a CGI trailer. But Pete [Hines, Bethesda's PR boss] killed my plans. Maybe I'll release it later along with the script, so somebody else can use it... I don't wan't to piss off Bethesda at this time even more."

Apparently, the person behind the hoax has subsequently received several death threats. The hoax cost around $900 for website hosting and for creating a phone number site visitors could call. "That's nothing for me," the hoaxer concluded. "I know I'm a douche."

Meanwhile, TheSurvivor2299.com now features sad piano music and the message: 'That's All Folks!'

  • At least he had a sense of humor.
  • Come on Bethesda and just bring epic Fallout 4!!!
  • hoping the only reason they closed the site down is because bethesda are getting ready to announce something themselves and don't want to confuse people. A man can dream anyway :D
  • Holy shit, this guy was good. Damn shame that it was a hoax, since I really want Fallout 4, but you gotta give to the guy...it was well-played.
  • I like how Bethesda only deals with it behind the scenes to protect their copyright, and lets everyone else board the SS Hype Train without saying a word.
  • Man that guy sounds awesome.....
  • Death threats? LOL! How little of a life do you have, to utter death threats to a guy who pulled one over on you. Put the controller down and go for a walk.
  • you sad twat
  • lol I read this post and have amuzament
  • Yo, Bethesda. Make it happen.
  • It's sad too because the site looked pretty authentic. Can't wait to play Fallout 4.
  • It would be funny if they bought the web domain and used it when they announce FO4!
  • Ill await my flood of apologies.
  • @15 it wasent obvious to the mass of hopeful fan boys: http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-16838-Fallout-4-To-Be-Absent-from-This-Weekend-s-VGX.html
  • @14 You'll be waiting a long time. Who are you again? :3
  • What a douche.
  • @14/@16 I'm not going to apologise, because I didn't actually disagree with you at any point. The point I was making was that there was as much proof and as many counter arguments for it being fake as there were for it being real, and that it would take Bethesda officially announcing (which they did on twitter on the 6th) to confirm it was either real or fake. Having just re-read the page to be sure, I don't think anyone here owes you anything - let alone an apology.
  • @14 Deserves a thumbs up, he got one from me (even though I agreed with him originally).
  • good prank.... still need my next fallout fix, Vegas didn't cut it for me.
  • Fallout 3 is my 2008 Game of the Year and it is beats Super Smash Bros. Brawl and GTA IV. Both is running up so Fallout 3 won. Bethesda need to bring Fallout returns so soon. It is being ages since main series released. :)
  • @19 yet you ripped apart the entire video I posted as you wanted it to be true? Sometimes denying evidence is the same as not having any mate. At least i brought some to the party.
  • dont care if its a hoax, we want fallout 4.
  • I wonder how much Bethesda has worked on fallout 4 since skyrim came out. Hopefully it's announced the first half of next year
  • that's a pretty good fake site, so I give him some credit for being creative. sucks it wasn't real.
  • I still think there will be something at E3
  • He definitely comes across as a giant douche regardless of the hoax. "I wanted to force Bethesda to announce something." Another tool that thinks he's special because he has money to waste.
  • BitchCassidy was right... and so adament he was correct... I smell a rat..........
  • @23 Indeed I did rip it apart - pretty easily. Which proves the point that I was making regarding no conclusive proof either way. I won't deny I wanted it to be real - I love the fallout series - but I wasn't assuming that it *was* real/fake, or trying to *prove* that it was real/fake, or even arguing that it was real/fake. As I've already stated, and as was correct at the time, there were enough pointers in both directions for fairly convincing arguments. It was frankly a pretty good fake. I personally just wanted a response from Bethesda either way to put an end to the speculation - which is why I tweeted Pete Hines at the time (as I'm sure about 10million other people did) - and we eventually got the response. Nothing about that earns you a damned thing.
  • My brother is so bummed out that this turned out to be a hoax.. I give this guy credit though, he's pretty damn smart if you ask me to be able to think of someting like that and follow through with it. If that doesn't show love for a game I don't know what does.
  • What a legend!!!
  • Damned shame this turned out to be fake after all.
  • THats pretty funny I must say
  • I laughed all the way through the article till it mentioned death threats... never nice to be reminded how pathetic some people are out there.
  • This helps a lot! Bethesda now knows how many of us want Fallout 4 so much!... Its a matter of time to know something about the game.
  • I love Bethesda with my gaming heart but...... WHY THE HELL ARE THEY SO AGAINST JUST TELLING US FALLOUT 4 IS HAPPENING
  • The same thing happened with that Prey 2 site that popped up 6 or so months ago. Hell, the guy even said the same thing about trying to force Bethesda's hand in releasing info about the game.
  • @36 That was bit extreme clearly you're some kind of nutcase. It was a joke about a game. Now get a life that doesn't revolve around what Bethesda are doing and wait like everyone else.
  • It's not like it'll never happen. They know there's a demand for it. Just wait.
  • Mother ******!! lol
  • @28 How does that make him a douche? Are you telling me that if you had money and time you wouldn't try the same thing? It was actually pretty smart, because they could have actually revealed information. Also, the site doesn't prove Fallout 4 doesn't exist since there's still the tweets from 3Dog and other evidence that proves that they are working on it. And even if he didn't force their hand into admitting anything outright, he could have subsequently got them to maybe reveal something sooner since the site did show just how much people want Fallout 4 to be a thing. I don't think it was a douche thing to do. There was no negative effect of him creating the site, besides all the fans who got their hopes up... but even then, the original teaser site for Fallout 3 clearly showed Bethesda made it, so it's not his fault people were so gullible.
  • You're not a douche mate! You tried your hardest and put a lot of effort, time and moeny into it! Yeah, it's a shame it was a hoax, but it'll come eventually anyway - we live in the era of sequal dependency anyway - If anything this shows how much people love the game series! It's not like any other franchise has pulled this level of effort out of its fans. Then again, any other mainstream franchise would probably be impossible to stage a fake annoucement site given at any one time there are about 17 COD and Assassins Creed games in development...
  • I think it's legit
  • I feel like i was just told santa a is not real... Your hoax was well played, but your a buttpipe. Just sayin. Oh well, back to the xbox.
  • Booo this man.... BOOOOO!!!! At least Bethesda made him stop, I only wish they would have stepped in sooner.... they let it go on for far too long. Fuck this idiot, not for his intentions, but for the route he took; plus, what a laughably rude attitude. But I sure as shit would not wish any harm to him, jesus christ, calm down. It was a well thought out joke, but a shitty joke.
