Battlefield 4 Expansions Put on Hold by EA

DICE has suspended work on its planned Battlefield 4 expansions, in order to "work non-stop" on fixing the game's numerous issues.

"First, we want to thank the fans out there that are playing and supporting us with Battlefield 4," an EA spokesperson told Polygon.

"We know we still have a ways to go with fixing the game - it is absolutely our No. 1 priority. The team at DICE is working non-stop to update the game."

"Since Battlefield 4 China Rising expansion pack was already in the final stages of development by the time issues began with Battlefield 4, we decided to fulfill our promise to deliver it this week, but we're not moving onto future projects or expansions until we sort out all the issues with Battlefield 4.

“We know many of our players are frustrated, and we feel their pain. We will not stop until this is right."

Since launch, Battlefield 4 has suffered from connection issues, crashes, single-player save corruptions and more, much to the dismay of fans.

A steady stream of patches has been released, but none have managed to rectify the major problems for all players. Let’s hope DICE’s extra manpower can get everything working properly as soon as possible.

  • Its about time. I hope all these problems will be resolved soon.
  • Hopefully that means by the time I get it, these problems wont be around.
  • Least there listening, would of been criminal to do the DLC while the games a broken mess,
  • DICE/EA, please don't put Premium players as testers in two weeks prior before officially launch of any DLC.
  • I believe this is a reason why Microsoft shouldn't of got rid of the patch payment, more and more games gettin released completely broken with the plan of "we'll fix it later"
  • I honestly don't think this game will ever be truly fixed. BF3 still has issues today but BF4 sometimes is just a complete mess. I'm a huge BF fan but they really shafted us with this one, just seems very unfinished in some areas. When a game goes right with hardly any bugs or glitches it's brilliant but sadly that doesn't happen often. Freezes, no sound, no textures, no load animation, holding LT and not going into iron sights, using defibs and not reviving a person, getting stuck in the map, all of these happened in my last gaming session alone. Oh and the slow down the game suffers with (particularly in the corridors of the prison map) is horrendous!
  • @6 are you just quoting a review or something there? The real problem is the constant dashing. it makes the SP and MP game UNPLAYABLE. never mind some shit your have read about textures.
  • Right now this game is nothing more than a $60 paper weight. I even tried to get game stop to let me swap it for another game ( they said I could only trade it in or for another copy of bf4 ) I wish I would have picked up something else.
  • This is why I play cod
  • Rushed out titles for a rushed out console ...
  • Still haven't picked this up on One..
  • Ive noticed a new one if any other player has, spotting it works and doesnt work - tried in a few games same thing on all games,
  • Dare I speak about the finer points of COD, that's blasphemy around this website. With that said I hope it works out for BF fans.
  • I've been playing BF4 since XBox One release. I had one crash to dashboard about 3 days after launch and I couldn't download Second Assault DLC for a while. Oh, and the server filters don't seem to work properly. Other than that I've not seen any issues at all. I thought there was a problem with joining Metro games but it really did turn out to be just that they're always actually full. I've not seen any of this losing single player progress, corruptions, other crashes at all. It all works fine so I get the feeling most of this has been overblown in the media. I see talk about dashing and such but that's just your internet connection that's crap. You can't really blame DICE for that. It has it's issues, but anyone would think the game was unplayable with all the moaning, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I got through the whole single player campaign and went back and did every level again for achievements with no issue. I've also played 10hrs straight multiplayer without a single fault.
  • Good to see them actually make an effort to fix shit.
  • This pleases me. I love BF4 and have been playing it since release. Yes there are numerous problems, but if you get lucky and actually get into a solid game it can be a fun experience. I'm glad they are fixing it. Yay DICE!
  • @14 Timmeh Really just how stupid are you, honestly? You are commenting about how you think the problems are overblown IN AN ACTUAL ARTICLE WHERE THE COMPANY WHO MAKES THE GAME SAYS: *****"We know we still have a ways to go with fixing the game - it is absolutely our No. 1 priority. The team at DICE is working non-stop to update the game."***** You were literally wrong even before you started typing. That is hard to do.
  • "but we're not moving onto future projects or expansions until we sort out all the issues with Battlefield 4. " define all please. "Since launch, Battlefield 4 has suffered from connection issues, crashes, single-player save corruptions and more, much to the dismay of fans." gonna be honest here, im about to play my 100th games and havent had any issues. i havent been dropped from a game once im in. i have only played the 1st little bit of the campaign, guess ill hold off on that until they assure me save games arent lost. "A steady stream of patches has been released" for the xbox one? i dont think there has been one. and the one they said was coming this week hasnt been given a day and date. so what i would like to know, is EA/Dice stated there is an issue, they are working on a fixes. how long will it take MS (and sony for our brothers on the inferior box) to get these fixes. would love to know the process and how long from a gold patch to a delivered gold patch to the owners of this game.
  • Is this just effecting the multiplayer side of things. Reason is I was looking to bang out the campaign over the weekend
  • Here's the #1 reason why they shouldn't couldn't consider Battlefield being a yearly release. I enjoy playing but its had so many issues since its release.
  • Honestly, having your save corrupted isn't that big of a deal since the Campaign is only 4 hours short anyway.
  • A broken battlefield is better then a working COD any damn day.
  • @22, seams to be true these days. +1
  • @13 No because thats always broken and unplayable compared to what BF4 is I was around for BFBC1 launch, come to expect this kinda shit
  • They feel our pain??? Bullshit. I'm sure they're crying all the way to the bank. Stop with the bullshit statements and just fix the game. I'd rather not read or hear about another apology until shit is fixed.

  • I'm gonna hold off on buying Battlefield 4 until all the issues are taken care of.
  • Jesus, everyone's an industry expert. For those complaining, have you ever played a game and not had an issue that others had? Well how many bugs are found when a 25 tester team plays compared to 500,000 when the game launches? Sure they hold betas, but they can't do that for unreleased consoles. Sure I can't play the game for too long without it crashing, but I realize asking for a near perfect experience at launch is unreasonable when half a million people are finding bugs the original team couldn't.
  • I'm glad DICE is taking this seriously. When Battlefield works, it's awesome and a brilliant addition to the series. On the other hand, CoD: Ghosts works 95% (from my experience) but the problem is that it isn't fun. Doesn't matter too much anything as I'm just playing these to tide me over until Titanfall. :)
  • @22 4 hours if you are playing on "LIL BITCH" Difficulty!!!!
  • Ooooops @21

  • @5: Microsoft did away with paying for updates over a year ago. . . And what people never understood about that payment was that the payment was for the work Microsoft had to do to test the update and make sure it didn't break Xbox live or the Xbox 360.
  • Fucking fix it. Bottom line.
  • Ea stock drops 6% today. http://games.yahoo.com/blogs/plugged-in/ea-acknowledges-flaws-battlefield-4-halts-future-projects-200932741.html
  • I believe you can get a refund by emailing EA , they did something similar for sim city ( not sure which one)
