Xbox One Achievements Don't Unlock While Offline

Lee Bradley

Last week, while we were reviewing the Xbox One launch line-up, something odd happened. Some achievements popped for one game while we were playing another.

After a short investigation, it turned out that we had earned the achievements in an earlier session, and they were just late to pop. We wrote it off as a quirk of pre-release software and moved on. It never happened again.

Now, however, it seems we may have a better explanation. According to a Microsoft help page, Xbox One achievements don’t unlock while you’re playing offline.

“For achievements and challenges to get unlocked and for rewards to be issued, you must have an active connection to Xbox Live,” explains the post.

“Though you may be able to meet the requirements for an achievement or challenge while offline, you will not receive related notices or rewards until you connect to Xbox Live.”

While we hadn’t manually disconnected our internet connection, it must have dropped offline for a while, meaning that the achievements only popped when the console reconnected.

Presumably a hangover from the console’s previously always-online nature, the set-up may or may not change in the future, but either way if your achievements don’t immediately pop, don’t panic. Your connection may just have temporarily dropped.

Want more on Xbox One? Why not check out our Launch Zone for all the achievement lists, videos, reviews and even a podcast! It has everything you could possibly need.

  • Well that's annoying..
  • Ive had no notification popup several times now but when i look ive gained achievements its definitely a bit buggy for me and also had one achievement not unlock at all on assassins creed 4 it was Master of the Caribbean for 10G
  • well if this is not changed i will not be getting a xbox one not because im petty but i cant play xbl they really didnt think about people like me :(
  • More always online bullsh*t. You're saying that unless I'm connected to the internet, I won't know if I've unlocked the achievement I'm aiming for? And what's more, if I don't have any internet access at all, I can't get achievements?
  • Meh, that's what bug fixes are for.
  • I hope they fix this sometime.....
  • Yeah, Xbox Live is down for me and I know I unlocked a few in KI, but this explains why they didn't pop. That's kind of annoying...
  • @3 So you wouldn't get an Xbox One because an achievement doesn't pop up right away? Man the reasons people are concocting up to not get the PS4 or Xbox One just baffles me.
  • Ok...ffs. I guess I'll just not do Achievements on Xbox One then. That makes me sad, what are Microsoft doing these days. Please fix this...I know I'm online most of the time, but when the Xbox One eventually goes offline in years to come, you won't be able to earn any more One Achievements. At least I'll be able to earn 360 Achievements offline, when like the Original Xbox, the 360 goes online. I'm sorry Microsoft...and I'm sad to say this, but I just don't have any interest in Achievements in this form. Fix it...please.
  • I play offline most of the time and acheivement hunting is what i do. This is going to be annoying.
  • @8 obviously he is saying that he doesn't have an internet connection. Also, just being picky, you can drop the "up" in "concocting up." A bit redundant there.
  • OMG wah wah some more you whiners. ^^^^ Microsoft doesn't care about me wah wah. SHUT UP
  • lol
  • Wait... so all achievements will have a date stamp then? TBH, this sounds like a happy mistake to me if that's the case. I hate having achievements with no date.
  • Wow this is pretty bad. I have been pretty disappointed with the xbox so afr. I hate the new controller. Analogs sticks make battlefield a pain to play. Playstation is now king of the controlling. I am shocked by how nice the PS4 controller is. I own both console and I am regretting reserving all my games for the xbox over the PS4. I didn't trust the PS4 as first cause I HATED the PS3 controller. Now this achievement thing is a big deal to me. I have probably the best job ever and I can actually take my console to work and play. Now I see that I wont be doing that with the xbox one.
  • This sucks for me. I travel a lot, so I barely ever have an internet connection. So I simply play games offline try to do achievements. Oh well. Maybe they'll fix it soon.
  • While this is a bit annoying, I'm sorry but if you're not connecting to the internet after buying a $500 console you really shouldn't be complaining
  • this is good actually. I'm sure they did this to help prevent those that hack or exploit their gamerscore. There must be some sort of check system in place when connecting online first before you are granting your achievement.
  • MS may have some backlash from this, and hopefully so. What is the obsession about everything having to be connected to the internet every minute of the day. This may be the 'internet age' but not everyone has an internet connection, and they are limiting being earning achievements because they aren't connected to the internet. Should be like it was when the 360 first came out and it wasn't completely relied upon the internet. Its a shame that everything has become so internet reliant.
  • Is this really a problem? Gosh, people.
  • @8 Well, for one, 'doesn't pop up right away?' doesn't apply if he doesn't use XBL at all. More like 'doesn't pop up at all' Secondly, the main thing that swung me towards 360 over PS3 was I liked the aspect of the achievement system; I liked the whole aspect of a rewards system for games (This was wayyyyyy before trophies). Thus, it can have an impact on at least some people; though I don't speak for the majority. Wouldn't have bothered me back then because I was always on XBL; but nowadays I'm never on, so it would have p***ed me off if I'd brought a ONE and discovered this.
  • F A I L !!!
  • I've had a weird issue with the Day One achievement. I redeemed the code in the box on https://live.xbox.com/en-US/redeemtoken before I unboxed the console. The site acknowledged the code just like normal but as far as I can see I haven't unlocked the achievement since I've been online. I rang Xbox support and they can see the code has been redeemed but that it's not on my profile or in my purchase/download history. Apparently the code was actually supposed to be a US/Mexico region code. They're looking into it and hopefully I'll get the achievement on my profile at some point over the weekend.
  • hid that one didnt they drm creeping bk in now you bought the xboxes
  • What I don't get is: if I get an achievement(like, complete game), but I am offline, and for whatever reason I'll switch off the console, does it mean I have to complete the game again (while I'm online) in order to get the achievement, or will it unlock once I get online?
  • /facepalm - Some of you people really need to learn to grow the fuck up. You're on the internet, moaning your achievements won't unlock, unless you're on the internet. What!? Tether your Xbox to your phone if you're that worried about it, it really isn't that difficult! Besides, how did you DL the day one patch without the internet? Or are you just jumping on the "I hate Microsoft" bandwagon?
  • This might be a little annoying but I won't complain. I just hope they can fix this soon.
  • I thought it was bad when I got my PS4 and found I still had to manually sync my trophies. Then Xbox One comes along and manages to come up with something worse. Microsoft. Sony. It is 2013. Get your fucking shit together already and make your systems do basic things without us having to jump through a bunch of hoops. Don't get me wrong, neither of them are reasons not to get the consoles, but fuck. How did they both fuck up something that should have been so simple?
  • @18 Yeah, punish good guys in order to prevent bad guys. Genius!
  • @25 - No, you'll have earned the achievement, but you'll 'unlock' it when you go online. The way it works now you won't get a date stamp for the achievement, where as now, you will.
  • I'm always online too.
  • lol
  • This is a sneakily way of MS to forced its users to kept their One always online.
  • People are seriously expecting a bug free release? Seriously, this is modern technology. Even games don't get released bug free. Bethesda, I'm looking at you. I'm sure Microsoft will sort this out. Calm your tits.
  • @34 this doesn't sound like something they mean to fix... it seems this is intentional. Doesn't bother me much, but I don't see why it couldn't just work like it does now on 360, where the achievement pops while offline but isn't visible to anyone or anywhere else until you connect again.
  • i think achievements as a whole are pretty sloppy on the xbox one at the moment.... hopefully they will fix it all/change it soon.
  • I personally like this feature, mainly because I hate it when there's no time stamp to the point where I won't play unfinished games offline. But I think there should be the option to do this instead of forcing you online just to collect an achievement. That way someone can toggle it off and receive achievements offline. Or maybe... apply the time stamp to unstamped achievements the next time the person connects to live. :I
  • is it unlocking in the achievements tab but not notifying you until after? Or are you left completely in the dark until it decides to pop for you? because stopping to check the achievement list is ok. as long as its not multiplayer, which obviously wouldnt matter.
  • sneaky fucks
  • who plays xbox offline anyways? nerds will always complain just to hear themselves talk.
  • @40 I hope yr internet goes through severe connection problems for the next two weeks. And as for you MICROSOFT I really don't appreciate this kind of shit. Which is why my delicious 500$ is still in my wallet until halo 5 comes out next year.
  • i play xbox offline due to the fact that i live in a small town where the best internet i can get is 1.2mb so i never bothered with multiplayer on games i got used to not playing it as id much rather have internet on my laptop and i clearly said i wasnt being petty and i love microsoft i think their great i merely stated that for a non xbl user pov this console is pretty pointless
  • 1 step forward 10 steps back
  • Not a fan of that
  • I can happily suggest this (given that I have 2 posts to my credit) If you look back up this thread its stands out that the antagonists have 0 posts. Easy to stop them, right?
  • For all those saying that this is a bug, it is not. This was something that was built INTO the system. The 360 can unlock achievements offline, so why does the XBone need to make achievements unlock when you're online, this was done deliberately by the machine manufactures. Talk about a step backwards.
  • You should still be able to get achievements offline just like b4. They should totally fix this.
  • Also, from my experience, if you unlock an achievement offline and turn the console off before connecting again, the achievement is lost and you have to earn it again.
  • Well when you think about it, if you play offline on the 360, your gamertag doesn't update til you're back online. It's really no big deal. I was fine with always online, as I only play while online. It may just get confusing playing dead rising 3 & unlocking an achievement for lego marvel. AH well, a small quirk, that won't hinder gameplay.
  • Whats with all the need for a date/time stamp for your achievements? I'm a bit of a cheevo whore myself but have never understood peoples need to have them unlocked with a date stamp-seems very 'anal' to me. Tee,hee-i said 'anal' OP-Just one of the reasons I'm leaving my Xbox One purchase 6/12 months.
  • I could see how this annoys some people but I could really care less. I haven't gotten an achievement offline in years so I can get the time stamp and I go out of my way to make sure I don't unlock achievements whenever I can't connect to live.
  • #51 Again with the time stamp-WHY,WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?? See my original post one before yours!!
  • i don't think they're gonna fix this, people. it's their intention to keep you connected. a bit stupid tho, what's the big deal about unlocking it offline.. oh well ms
  • I wonder how this would affect an achievement such as 'beat xxx on Dec 25th' etc., if you go offline, change the date, comlete the achievement and then connect to live.
  • This is a pretty stupid thing to get upset about.
  • Out of all the achievements I have unlocked so far only two have actually showed up one for Fifa 14 and the other for Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag so I guess this could be cause as to why the others haven't showed up although in saying that I have unlocked some achievements that actually require you to be online but they haven't showed up either I have also made sure that all preference notifications were all selected and they are but like I said only two achievements have showed up so far and I have also not had achievements I have unlocked show up at a much later time and I'm also sure that my connection has never dropped to be offline either.
  • sure are an awful lot of people (using the internet) complaining about having to use the internet for their Xbox One... o_0
  • I can see it now... ...is offline for 6 months ...connects to the internet ...2000 achievements pop in a row
  • haha "You have earned 2000 achievements for 400000 GS"
  • Fair dinkum. I rarely get to connect my consoles to the internet living where I do, so this means I can't get achievements? I personally couldn't care less about timestamps, i just want to be able to play games and earn achievements whilst doing it. I am already having to miss out on a heap of the Xbox One features because my lack of an internet connection, now i have to miss out on one of the main reasons i have stayed with Microsoft. Oh well, I've already bought the thing now. Hopefully it changes in the future but I won't hold my breath.
  • This is pretty much what happens now except for a lack of notification. If someone plays 10 offline games then signs on all those points will be added. Now you'll apparently just get popups.
  • @26: You clearly miss the point of the "bitching and moaning". My issue with it is (even though I have a very stable internet connection and it never goes out) there is the rare occasion that it does or I take my 360 with me to play somewhere else where i don't have it hooked up to the internet. Is it the end of the world? No of course not but achievements not unlocking offline is a little bit ludicrous to me and I'm not sure why MS decided to do that. Also, it seems like their little way of bringing back the "always online" BS that everyone didn't like.
  • #40 and 57: Again, you guys completely miss the point. This is clearly not a deal breaker of course but the fact that MS couldn't be bothered to allow achievements to pop while offline just shows that they still hold on to the "always online" BS. Will this affect me? Probably not as like I said I'm online on my 360 most of the time but there are rare occasions when I am not. This is about the principle of the matter and I'm pretty sure MS will decide to slowly make features "online only" starting with this. Of course we don't know yet but with achievements being locked unless you're online shows that anything is possible at this point.
  • It's 2013 people! You should HAVE internet buy now.
  • here's to hoping they fix this soon, along with a lot of other stuff! :)
  • Thats fully swayed me then,ps4 it is,cant afford to be online all the time.
  • So, if you were trying to get a particularly challenging achievement for a while and you're unsure if you managed to complete the requirement, would you be completely in the dark about whether you succeeded or not? I can imagine that, in some cases, some people would end up trying again and again, not knowing that they've already unlocked it, but without being notified.
  • Yep. Another reason not to get a X1. More always-online bullshit.
  • I dont get all this whining about no internet connection. If you can afford a $500 console with games but cant afford $40 a month for internet something wrong or you just to cheap. So all the whining should be about yourself being cheap. If i could get high speed internet 3 hours in the middle of no where in northern canada then there is some sort of internet service available near you.
  • Nope, done.
  • I'll actually be happier if it stays this way! It always annoys me on 360 if my internet connection has dropped without me realising and then an achievement pops, meaning no timestamp on it (this happened a few times in GTAV!).
  • it's already bad enough the xbone can't play games at their true 1080p format esp for such an expensive console let alone for xbone achievements not being able to be unlocked offline anymore, it's despicable.
  • That's very strange. I'm always signed into Live when I turn on my Xbox but that must suck for users who don't have internet access. Very stupid. In other news, I'm still enjoying my Xbox One.
  • Microsoft has said that you do indeed need an internet connection to at least download the day one update for the Xbox One. It won't work without it. If you don't have an internet connection, why did you even buy it? I could care less. It's just the notification that doesn't pop unless you're online. When you earn it, it shows up on your profile fine, but you have to manually look. All this talk about not being able to unlock achievements unless you're online... are you all silly in the head?
  • I agree @26, these ppl are babbbies! its so LOL!!!!!!!!
  • I have read every comment and a lot of you are missing the point. I have the best Internet I can get 100mb download and upto 50mb upload fibre with unlimited data cap. I have 2 wireless routers in my house and I still can't get get wifi in my bedroom and no suitable way to run a cable. So if I decide to play in my room I am unaware if I have gain an achievement until I connect again. So this is not about not having Internet for me I just can't connect to it in my room. This is such a terrible move by MS that I hope get removed. I pretty sure people are in the same situation as me or worst and the fact is many people have the Internet but just can't connect to it in some places in there house or it drop on them.
  • yeah not being able to unlock the achievements off line is not a bug. If it was it wouldn't be in their FAQS.
  • It must be because they are tracked by the cloud or something. The fact that the achievement tells you the percentage complete of each individual achievement is frikin' sweet !!
  • Microsoft itself stated that Xbox 360 is their offline console.
  • I play offline quite alot, sometimes by choice others not by choice. The best way for me to enjoy a good SP game is offline, so i can put myself into the mood without any party invites or people constantly comming online. Guess it will be nice to play a few games and then go online the next day to massive achievement gains. Hopefully it gets fixed somehow.
  • Wow that does really suck actually. Right now if the 360 servers went down, we could still get achievements whenever we want but when the One servers go down, we will no longer be able to do that. You would have to complete every game before the servers went down to insure that you have the achievements you want.
  • @60: "I rarely get to connect my consoles to the internet". So, I don't see the issue? When you finally do connect, boom. You get your achievements.
  • I do see the huge problem in this, being a possible owner of the One in the near future, it's rewarding to accomplish it then see it pop. But as others stated, since it does require a day 1 update, most people have some sort of Internet, so I guess some will just have to resort to connecting maybe once a week to get your cheevos if your wifi or cord doesn't reach where you game, stupid, but its not like you won't EVER get the achievements if you're not always online
  • Feel bad for all though who don't use the internet to play their games I guess Microsoft expects everyone to have some form of online connection these days. This problem shouldn't even exist its just so strange that you can get achievements offline on the 360 but you can't on the Xbox One? once again this is my opinion :)
  • Why MS can't make it like PS3? If you play offline, you get trophy notifications with timestamps. I don't think it would be so hard to develop.
  • You DO unlock achievements even when you are offline. You DON'T get the NOTIFICATION, but if you look at your gamertag or whatever, you will see that the achievements ARE unlocking. Seriously, people? When you come back online, you will get all the notifications and, similar to the 360 when it comes back online, they will then show up on xbox.com. Do you REALLY think that Microsoft would not allow you to unlock achievements when you are offline? REALLY?
  • Clarification, they won't show up on your gamertag, but you would still have unlocked the achievement offline. You don't get the notification or the gamerscore in your gamertag, but you got it. Just reconnect. Why is everyone so upset about this? Because they don't see their little numbers going up? This is a non-issue.
  • The more problems I read about users having issues with their Xbox Ones makes me really relieved I took a chance on the PS4. Don't get me wrong, I love the 360 and will continue to use it, but in terms of gaming the PS4 is better - fact. I will admit I was worried I'd made the wrong choice by switching to Sony but now I'm very glad I did. To me it seems in this situation that Microsoft have managed to find a way for you to still check in periodically online, something a lot of people reacted negatively to in the beginning. There are so many people who can't access the Internet/have a strong enough connection etc. For me, MS screwed up a lot with their new console and tried to rectify it way too late. Hence the achievement system still needs you to jump online just to unlock them. Very silly!
  • Microsoft... just, no... okay. Get your shit together.
  • @88 until games (lots of them) are out for both the ps4 &x1 and which console they are primarily made for (generally the underpowered machine) & ported to the other (resulting in glitches) FACT also the ps4 currently has more faulty machines, but MS did screw up a lot and have already nerfed achievements by having time constraints etc. Kind of funny that im on an achievement site when I no longer have the slight interest in them (thanks to MS for the Killer instinct & any more partial achievement based rewards). Play a game how you want to play it, not some pre determined gamer score tick sheet for ocd behavior.
  • wow, thats a bit crafty tbh. I hope this gets fixed.
  • Some seriously ignorant people here. Despite people giving legitimate concerns about internet connectivity, there are still the "It's 2013. Deal with it." remarks. You never know if the servers could go down, or you want to game on the move, lose connection, etc. However minor you may think it is (to your ignorant self), not knowing if you've gained an achievment until you connect online IS a step backwars.
  • @87 You're a bit of a tool aren't you! If you don't get a notification and they don't show up on your gamertag (despite your previous unsistance that they did), how would someone who is offline (due to anything from a downed connection to travelling without immediate internet availability) who is attemping a long winded/complicated achievement (possibly glitched), know that they have attained the achievement?
  • Translation: Allow M$ to shove their control of you in your back door or they will withhold the service you are paying for, including rewards, not just Gamerscore.
  • Well thanks Ms. Glad in not changing consoles for awhile. I work away from home durin the week so only have decent internet when I'm home at weekends if i cant unlock achievements offline why did Ms remove all the always online restrictions?! And wont it look weird when i get online at the weekend and unlock 2000g in 5mins?! Ms wont have a clue who got em legit or nodded or hacked the game/achievements! Ms are really destroying the decent brand they build will all the bullshit! Ill use my £500 for Sony if this doesn't get changed/fixed
  • @96 i agree - when there in im getting a PS4 this sneaky little trick to me is a trigger that they will blend all this bullshit that kicked off at the begining another sale lost, trust i cant in microsoft, why the holy fuck cant you unlock off line, what shit is all that about
  • After finally taking X1 for consideration to buy it in nearest time (christmas probably) - this shit happens, I really don´t know what to think, this is totally fucked up.
  • I haven't got the XBone yet, but this is a feature that might chase me to PS4. Their are games like SF4, that are hideously annoying to play online. I might want to have a party with my best friend and chat, while we play different games. While doing this I might want to play SF4 arcade mode, if I'm playing arcade mode it's for a reason. 1) I want to enjoy my chosen characters story. 2) I want to earn the achievement for completing the game in arcade mode. 3) I want to play a solo game, because I'm no in the mood for online versus. I don't want to spend the game kicking 10 or 20 players who tried to join in. I especially don't want that before I've won a single round in arcade mode, the point is SF4 didn't have a proper online, unlike Mortal Kombat, SF4v7,000,000 probably won't have a proper online lobby either. And that is what makes having to be online with XBone total BS. Especially since my MS account already has my e-mail and my mobile number and their still asking for them, it's joke and not a funny one. Throw in my nephew's who have offline profiles on my 360 and love earning achievements, at 10 and 7 their too young to deal with internet weirdoes. Thank you Microsoft, I didn't need anymore reminders that I hate you. My new Laptop is only a month old so the horrible, god awful, POS operating system that is Windows 8 couldn't be any fresher in my mind if it tried. I don't mind going back to Sony, or even Nintendo - Bayonetta 2, but I'm not ready to sell my soul to Apple. Get it together Bill.
  • seems pretty backwards. are you telling me they managed offline/online notifications on the 360 but they can't now? for those who are able connect 24/7 good for you, but theres no need attacking people who cant connect and have a problem with it. the notification is helpfull, and yes it is a big deal
  • @66 YOU DON'T NEED TO BE ONLINE ALL THE TIME. All the achievements will unlock when you connect to live. Oh and the PS4 works the same way with trophies.
  • @99 Your post makes no sense. If you're in party chat you're online.
  • God you kids sound like a bunch of whining pussies. Yea this is a problem, but no need to sit here and cry about it, if you don't like it GTFO. I personally don't give a shit. I always have an internet connection, for those of you who don't have access to one, stick with your 360. You will be better off.
  • I don't play my console offline anyway. So it don't bother me.
  • @76 don't worry we got your point - you're full of yourself, talk crap and your "bedroom" is really in your mother's basement. None of us care what connection you claim you have
  • @ #90 - No, the PS4 has better gaming specs. That is a fact that can't be argued. Do your research before you try and argue with a fact. Even if there's poorly made games on the PS4 doesn't mean it is any less of a console. Just means the games made aren't reaching the console's full potential yet. The Xbox One is a good machine, but if you look at it based on the specs for games alone then the PS4 leads. Lets just hope game developers put its potential to good use! OT: I hope the Xbox One people who are having all these issues manage to get a fix/replacement ASAP. Can only imagine how upset/furious they were when they tried it for the first time! I'd be livid.
  • I may be mistaken but were we not told that after the day one update we'd never have to connect the console to the internet again ,if we didn't wish to.This surely makes that line bullcrap
  • I may be mistaken but were we not told that after the day one update we'd never have to connect the console to the internet again ,if we didn't wish to.This surely makes that line bullcrap
  • There was just no need to change the achievement system at all.
  • I'm more surprised Microsoft didn't make achievements for Gold users only. Everything else is behind the Gold Pay Wall. Even the simple stuff like Game DVR.
  • Could be a tad annoying at times but not a big deal.
  • So if my internet dies and I decide to go achievement hunting I cant? Well shit.
  • just as Norma said I cannot believe that a person able to get paid $7508 in one month on the computer. go to website http://www.jobs64.com
  • Im glad they did this. Stops all the cheaters with there gamesaves and mods. And one other thing, why does it even matter to most of you people that are complaining about this, most of you are always connected to the Internet anyways.
  • @64 - Tell that to the telecoms companies that refuse to upgrade connections then.
  • @115 how does this stop anyone cheating? Does it not look weirder if i complete say 2games durin the week when i work away from home go online sat and 2000gs pops all on the same day within 2mins?! And if the achievement unlocked message doesn't appear how do you know you have unlocked anything ?! 1update and never need to be online again my arse. Ms full of shit. Just another excuse kinect is watchin you
  • #115 I have a few mates who work away for large portions of the year with little or no internet capability. When they're back we like to get together to game. We've yet to decide on which platform will be our next gen and ultimately small things like this mount up to determine which console will be best for us. I'm still in the 'One' camp but opinion is increasingly divided.
  • Hopefully this gets patched...
  • @schnoo: my friend's step-aunt makes 64 bucks an hour on the internet. She has been unemployed for 7 months but last month her pay check was 14813 bucks just working on the internet for a few hours. more information ⇛⇛⇛⇛⇛⇛⇛⇛ WWW.FB49.COM ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ Go to website and click Home tab for more details.
  • I have yet to receive my achievement "my kind of car" in forza 5. It's FRUSTRATING I can't get this achievement. If you play forza it's something that comes as you play career.
  • I don't have internet at home so this is unacceptable with my circumstances
  • This is great news for me. I hate poppin achievements with no time stamps. It's hilarious that some kids on here are getting their panties in a twist over it. Grow the f##k up.
  • @14 First World Problems^^.....
  • lets all get butt hurt cause you cant get achievements offline.. what happen to the days of playing games for fun? or just to beat the game and enjoy the story? now half of you wont even play a game because you don't like the achievement list.
  • Why is this an issue in which people need to rant about? Oh yeah, because most likely the ranters are kids. Try to enjoy the games you play, who the fuck cares about achievements? Oh yeah...kids.
  • @78 I agree with you. I love the tracking feature. It's just taking me some time learning how to navigate. My internet drops often and have already had two achievements pop late in Forza. No big deal to me.
  • I've made $64,000 so far this year working online and I'm a full time student. Im using an online business opportunity I heard about and I've made such great money. It's really user friendly and I'm just so happy that I found out about it. Heres what I do.................. WWW.Wow40.ℂℴm
  • For those people moaning for a patch here's something to remember, you will need to connect to the internet for the patch. Reality is some products are useless without the internet, if you don't have a connection you should consider why you don't. People say there isn't a internet provider in their area that can handle a Xbox. If that's the case move out of your cave and join modern society, because if you don't get your achievements life is meaningless right?
  • Think the ps4 is edging it this time round and I absolutely hate to have to say that
  • at least they pop up eventually
  • I play a game for the experience not because I happen to shoot 10 of something or pick up 912643 items.Play the game for the experience it gives you not for some little pinging noise that tells you that you YAY you just opened your 10,000 door.
  • i am another lucky person who can take their xbone to work and play for up to about 8 of a 12 hour night shift, but without xbox live as phones are not allowed (xboxs good, phones bad... i know). Anyway thats what brought me here, kind of annoying that i dont know if i earned something, cant check my progress or even know what im aiming for without a live connection. Reading through the comments iv noticed nobody has pointed out, i dont think, that you cant even see what the achievements are for a game never mind unlock them. Iv unlocked a few for FM5 which unlocked when i got home and connected yesterday, they didnt 'pop' though... and this is were it gets weird. within the achievements app my gamerscore was displayed with the correct figure and showed each that id unlocked etc. but when i backed out to the home screen i could still see in the now minimized achievements app displaying my updated gamerscore. but then to the left under where my profile is displayed my gamerscore stayed as was pre offline achievements. To put it simply, on the screen i had to different gamerscores. The lower score on my 'profile' has not updated despite me trying a variety of what i would of imagined were obvious solutions ie starting up FM5, signing in/out of live etc. Only thing i havent tried is earning an achievement while online, then maybe it'll all update. Maybe then ill get them all to 'pop' aswell, as you may remember i mentioned that that didnt actually happen for me, just the updated GS in the achievements app. Am i alone in this?
  • @126,129&132 You are aware that you're commenting on xbox360achievements.org, right? Keyword 'Achievements'. Also people are allowed to enjoy the game AND enjoy chasing achievements. Plus @129, how ignorant are you? Not everyone can afford to move and the internet isn't likely a major factor when having to move in the first place. Even in this day and age, internet availability isn't equal everywhere.
  • So could you essentially unlock a bunch of achievements and then the next time you connect they all pop? If so this new doesnt bother me at all. I hated how a lot of my earlier achievements didn't have a timestamp because I had no connection(Well I did, i just didn't know for the longest time you needed a connection for a timestamp.. doh)
  • Always hated when games have online achievements... now they ALL are. Sad times.
  • @30 - Has always annoyed me and i don't get why it cant date stamp from the consoles clock or why it couldn't of been patched in during the last 7 years :/
  • #138 the consoles clock isn't a trusted time stamp, because if you are offline you could set the clock yourself. the x360's missing timestamps on offline achievements is deliberate design, not an unintended bug.
  • As long as it doesn't lag like ps3 trophies, it'll be alright...
  • this is shit, so you let your xbox be played offline but fuck the achievement hunters who might not have internet access right
  • This is bullshit for those who don't have good Internet connection, or can't be online at all times. I am not one of those people fortunately. In a way, this is good, because, it also makes sure all your achievements have a date and time stamp next to them. (which is something I have been picky about door years).
  • i have an achievement for skyrim from 1228, ON THE 360, time stamps aren't a problem and have always been on the 360 and as long as you are getting the achievement then why is this a problem? plus why buy a £400 Xbox One if you cant even use internet, that just seems baffling to me.
  • Active internet connection needed to earn achievements....good one Microsoft...what were you smoking when you decided that? So in order to continue to maximize my score (currently sitting at 107,286...doubt the score check it out :) ) I now need to have internet to be credited my achievement....sure seems the Xbox One is going backwards in some areas in comparison to the 360.
  • Thanks for the new tech Microsoft...can really tell you had your loyal fans in mind when you were designing this. Can't play my collection of 10 years worth of game collecting...have to rebuy all re released games..cant earn achievements offline now..cus I always want to play online with annoying bratty little geeks...ya I have the ONE..its pretty cool but who's getting the better end of the deal...
  • didn't read this till i recently got one now all i have is an over sized paperweight and my 11 month old has a controller to chew on. Im going back to ps4 goodbye forever xbox.
