Infinity Ward has released a pretty extensive explanation of Call of Duty: Ghosts’ new Perks system.

Covering everything from equipping, through to the unlocks and a look at the various categories of Perks on offer, it’s the closest look at the new system yet.

Get it all below in the words of Infinity Ward themselves. Call of Duty: Ghosts is out on current-gen systems worldwide on November 5th. Next-gen versions will be available at the launch of the consoles.

Oh and if you’re interested, there’s a bunch of Ghosts multiplayer footage through here.

Equipping Perks

Each of the 35 available Perks is weighted with a point value of 1 through 5. Your loadouts naturally have a pool of 8 points to spend on Perks, up to a total of 12 depending on your loadout choices.

In addition to the initial 8 points, a single Perk point is tied to the Primary Weapon slot, Secondary Weapon slot, Lethal and Tactical. Take away any one of these items for an additional Perk point, allowing a maximum of 12 points to spend. If you’re a Perk fanatic, you’re welcome to forego all weapons and equipment, starting each spawn with only a knife in hand and 12 points worth of Perks. It’s your choice.

Perk Unlock System

Perks are unlocked in one of two ways. Each Perk is marked with a level and a Squad Point cost. Once you reach the listed level, the Perk is automatically unlocked for use. If you’d rather unlock a Perk early, you can also choose to spend the listed amount of Squad Points for immediate access. Can’t wait to unlock Blast Shield for your Domination matches? Pay the listed Squad Points ahead of time and it’s yours to use.

Perk Categories

Each Perk belongs to one of seven different Perk Categories. Mix and match as you see fit to create a near unlimited number of loadout combinations, from quick and stealthy to tough and armed to the teeth.

  • Speed

Outrun and outmaneuver enemy players. Speed Perks are all about getting the lead and staying ahead. Examples include:

Sleight of Hand: Faster reloading.

Stalker: Move faster while aiming.

  • Handling

Dexterity and control drives the Handling Perks, improving actions and accuracy. Examples include:

On the Go: Reload while sprinting.

Steady Aim: Increased hip fire accuracy.

  • Stealth

Stealth Perks aid you in staying out of sight, maintaining a low profile and engaging on your terms. Examples include:

Takedown: Kill enemies without revealing their death locations.

Incog: Resistant to targeting systems including: Recon, Thermal Scope, Tracker Sight and Motion Sensor. No name or red crosshairs when targeted.

  • Awareness

Keep in tune with your surroundings. Awareness Perks help you survey the environment and detect enemy players. Examples include:

SitRep: Detect enemy explosives and tactical equipment.

Wiretap: Utilize all active enemy and friendly SAT COMs on the field.

  • Resistance

A hardened endurance reduces the effects of fatigue. Resistance Perks keep you going through tough engagements. Examples include:

Focus: Reduced weapon sway when aiming down sights and reduced flinch when hit.

Blast Shield: Increased resistance to explosive damage.

  • Equipment

Tacticians swear by their gear, and Equipment Perks ensure you have the best tools on hand. Examples include:

Extra Tactical: Additional Tactical equipment.

Extra Attachment: Extra attachment for your weapons.

  • Elite

Elite Perks offer special abilities that affect your loadouts in a variety of ways. Examples include:

Gambler: Spawn with a random Perk.

Ping: Activate a sonar ping upon killing an enemy, revealing nearby hostiles.

  • Perk of not following the masses to pick up this game: Save $60
  • lol knife only.
  • Scavenger better be one of the ones not listed here...
  • Well, I'm gonna gamefly this. But hey, Slight of Hand and On The Go will make this slightly more enjoyable.
  • @1 WOAAAAAH Slow down everyone! We've got a cool guy over here! god he's cool...
  • @1 wow you're so cool, I want to be just like you! I bet you have a beard and big frames glasses with no lenses, gosh you're cool
  • Ping would be awesome for S&D matches.
  • @1,5,6 None of you are cool
  • #8 is a twat and F U to whoever next
  • So pretty much the same as the last CoD then? Also, I enjoyed that comment #1:)
  • @10 not really you can have as many perks from any catagory you want rather than at most 2 from 1 http://www.codghosts.net/perks-list has had the full list for a while now, also has killstreaks, maps, weapon list, etc
  • @ #11 Ahhh, I see. A slight tweak then:) Should provide a few more options
  • I preferred the multiplayer when it was a bit simpler. CoD4 got the balance pretty good with the UAV/Bombing/Harrier set kill streaks. I still haven't got around to Blops 2 yet. I really thought MW3 was pretty weak and never really got into the MP and the SP in MW3 was really quite weak I thought. This system could be interesting, but I'm not sure I'll ever find out.
  • do these forecasts include the FIFA scams hackers do with compromised accounts?
  • guys new perk just added today: full refund! of your money! if you return it! limited time offer! only!
  • @13 you obviously gave enough of a duck to come here and post. So do us all a favour and fuck the hell off you stupid little fuck. You're the exact reason these comment boards get off track, so grow the hell up.
  • @17 - "gave enough of a duck" lol
  • @7 So would Takedown.
  • You know what I want again? A simplistic CoD like the 4th. No ridiculous perks, just a few per slot. No point system or 'Take 10' system or whatever. No massive amounts of killstreaks, just the 3/5/7. Some good weapons and attachments, nothing cheap or overly ridiculous. That's what would make me return to the series.
  • @1 Get a life. Do you not think some people play it because they actually like it?
  • @21: nope And I do have a beard, but don't wear glasses :p
  • @20 - That will never happen again because the series has turned to shit. Black Ops had a "Bare Bones" play list , but it wasn't as good as the original MW MP. Used to be such a good series. Now it's just for kids with modded controllers that have severe god complexes.
  • I like the sound of Ping, pretty interesting. Should be fun like usual, no matter what hipsters say.
  • @3- Hell yeah Scavenger is part of Ghosts, theres a multiplayer video showing the perk on x360a. At the risk of being drowned in online trolling, i for one am kinda excited for this game. The only weak entry in the cod series for me was MW3 since even though it was a blast they literally copied and pasted the challenges from MW2. MAN was i pissed that day!
  • @14 CoD4 & W@W will never be beaten, CoD series is a victim of its own success now. It needs to go back to basics, but never will. But at least its still a good laugh to play with mates on an evening.
  • Really hoping this will be a good MP COD, the dedicated servers are one thing i'm looking forward to.
