Walmart to get Exclusive AC/DC Rock Band Disc

Walmart to get Exclusive AC/DC Rock Band Disc
Written Tuesday, September 30, 2008 by Alan Pettit

This is ridiculous to me on many levels, but here goes.

Walmart will be selling an exclusive 18-song disc of live AC/DC tracks for Rock Band/Rock Band 2 that will retail for $39.98. Now, aside from it only being available in one store (which also means one country, the US), the price is outrageous. Normal full albums have been going at half that price for almost just as many songs (RHCP 16-song DLC from last week was $19.99). On top of that, these are live versions which might be awkward to play along with.

There are currently no plans for these to be available as normal DLC, though if you remember a while back some "exclusive" OXM Rock Band tracks did eventually show up on the marketplace. Hopefully the same is true here as well and they are added at normal price.

I'd boycot this if I was an AC/DC fan since it seems like a giant ripoff, but luckily I'm not. If you are and you'd still like to buy this, here's what you're getting:

  • "Thunderstruck"
  • "Shoot to Thrill"
  • "Back in Black"
  • "Hell Ain't a Band Place to Be"
  • "Heatseeker"
  • "Fire Your Guns"
  • "Jailbreak"
  • "The Jack"
  • "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"
  • "Moneytalks"
  • "Hell's Bells"
  • "High Voltage"
  • "Whole Lotta Rosie"
  • "You Shook Me All Night Long"
  • "T.N.T."
  • "Let There Be Rock"
  • "Highway to Hell"
  • "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)"

I only like half the songs to begin with. If I had Rock Band or Rock Band 2, I'd probably buy them off Xbox Live Marketplace if they are available as individual song downloads.

Far too expensive for me.

I'll be waiting for them to be DLC...

because from what I've heard, this isn't like some content discs, where you can simply copy it multiple times. If it was like that, I would split the cost among a few friends.

However, they're doing some thing where you have to be online to copy the disc, so that you can only do it once.

lame.

18 songs for just short of $40 means about $2.25 per song. I haven't checked prices for songs on XBLM, but I think the come out to $1-$1.50. That beats the cost of this disc by a lot but I guess they had to add in the cost of storing it on a physical medium, packaging, shipping, etc. Digital distribution still wins.

Such a shame that they don't include Big Balls... That would be awesome to sing.

As for this being one country only, I don't think that'll be the case. I don't know about continental Europe but I know that Wal-Mart owns the Seiyu chain Japan and ASDA the UK so there's still a good chance if it being sold worldwide.

Maybe, but it won't make money in US with those prices, so they won't even consider Europe or Asia.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
