Rock Band 2 Instrument Unboxing

Rock Band 2 Instrument Unboxing
Written Monday, September 29, 2008 by James Parkin

If you're one of the countless Rock Band owners that are itching to get in on the Rock Band 2 instruments, we're here to make the wait a bit more unbearable. Feast your eyes on a handful of images as we unpack our box of glory.

(click image to view it larger)

Ah the shipping box, so plain, yet so beautiful. Gaze as it's beauty and take it all in.

Upon opening the shipping box, we're presenting with three objects. A guitar box, a drum box, and a copy of Rock Band 2.

Here's everything out of the box. Lets take a look at these guitars!

After opening the guitar box, we're now looking at two different wireless guitar boxes. The Rock Band 2 bundle will only come with one guitar, but we were given two for reviewing purposes.

Now that everything's out of the guitar box we can see what we have to work with. A wireless Fender Stratocaster guitar, a headstock, a Fender guitar strap, three AA batteries, and a baggie with a Rock Band 2 sticker sheet and manual. Not sure why the headstock doesn't come attached though, must have been a sizing issue.

Ah a Stratocaster put together, so beautiful. Doesn't it just make you drool?

Lets take a look at those drums now!

Peeking in the box we see all the parts wrapped up, and a notice letting us know to return defective instruments to EA instead of your place of purchase (the guitars also had this form.)

Once everything's out of the box we can see what we have to work with. We have the drum heads, some Ludwig Rock Band 2 drumsticks, an aluminum plated bass pedal, all the pieces for the stand, three AA batteries, and another baggie with manual and sticker sheet.

Put together, the drums are nothing short of a thing of beauty. Words can't justify their awesomeness.

And there you have it! The Rock Band 2 instruments! Sadly our press box didn't include a microphone for some reason, so we weren't able to include that in our unboxing. The instruments are available individually now, with the Rock Band 2 bundle (game, drums, guitar, and microphone) shipping October 19th.

Super lol @#3

I have the drum set for Rock Band 2, but I have the guitar from Rock Band 1. The news drums are great. They're more sensitive, so it doesn't jack any notes from you. Also, the foot pedal has a piece of metal on it to make it more durable (hopefully). I forgot to mention that it's wireless!!! :D

Drum pads have horrible battery life. It drains batteries like nothing people. I had to return my drum pads back to EA because I've used 2000, 2200, 2500mAh rechargeable, and even normal batteries and all of that sucked the battery life out of all of them in 2 hours or less. I hope they fix my drum pads because man, the battery life is just horrible. They should of kept it USB and not wireless for thee drums. Other than that, the drums are fucking great. Pads are way quieter and the pedal is a billion times better.

The guitar may look pretty but I just can't get used to the feel of the RB guitar after using the GH one for so long. Let me know when you have a review or pricing for the cymbal accessories because I need to get a replacement drum kit for my dying Rock Band (the first) kit. Going to wait until the GH kit comes out and see which is better.

Also, I believe I counted THREE people that took up a comment just to point out and bring attention to the ONE person that put a first comment. Good going, idiots.

The drum set does look pretty nice. But I mean if I buy this, I'll have three pretend drumsets in my room. Even for me, that's a bit excessive.

"is there any significance to the weird black dot in the middle of each drum pad?"

Probably a target...the first clue this might be another piece of shit kit that will drop notes like a motherfucker if you don't hit dead center.

there's some videos on youtube of the drums, the middle of the pads is some kind of gel, and there's a problem with the blue/yellow pad. when you hit one of them close to the side of the other pad, it can trigger both at the same time, so i'm gonna wait for a better drum set, or buy the ion drum set next summer

gh > rock band all day, this stuff is crap looking IMO. The guitar from rockband is garbage in comparison to the sweet ass x-plorer's i have :D

The drums are wireless? rofl what were they thinking adding wireless instruments without a play and charge ability (or something like it) Didn't they learn anything from the past few years of people buying play and charges for the controllers?! Anyway I rented rb2 and I must say...this sound track is freaking lame. Bunch of easy nonsense songs with a few that are worth playing a few times before they are gold starred. RB is just pop crap anyway thanks to harmonix and mtv loving bad music.

I haven't played these, but I'm pretty sure the Ion set we hooked up today knocked these little sissies out of the water. I would be interested to know how they actually compare though, for drum battle purposes.

I bought the RB2 drums, blue pad doesn't work. I'm sending it back in. Too bad I can't return it for a refund because wireless kind of sucks too.

Now I'm back to the RB1 drums.

Thinking about getting the ION. Since it's USB.

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 @ 08:26:46 AM

think i will just buy the game, got the instruments from rb1, plus with getting GH:WT when its out, it will bring my collection up to 5 guitars, 2 drum sets and 2 mics.

im gonna run out of room to put all this stuff.

if only they sold the rock band drum case in the uk. i cant justify paying $50, plus shipping, plus import fees for the one from the rock band shop.

Wireless is a bit overrated. And I don't like the idea of running through batteries so fast if that's the case.

Also.... FIRST!

Can no one else see that they are the same bits of kit with the colours of the paint changed and wireless capabilities! Its a waste of money. I'll get the game but the RB2 instruments can kiss by arse!!

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 @ 10:24:01 AM

I normally prefer GH to RB but RB has got better support for DLC than GH. The songs released for RB were by far better and much more frequent than guitar hero.

I bought the rock band 2 guitar last week and it was a very worthy purchase. that upgrade is highly recommended if you have the spare bucks

Think I'll wait for the GH drum set with the cymbals for a more complete experience - hopefully it'll be compatible with RB2.

Yeah I'm sticking with all my Rock Band 1 stuff instead of buying too much more. I just bought the game.

Gonna save up for GH4 and sell my Rock Band drums and microphone, pending on the reviews of how those GH4 drums hold up.

Because the GH4 drums are backwards compatible so I'd rather have better drums than the problematic Rock Band ones.

Tuesday, September 30, 2008 @ 06:20:42 PM

I love to savor the moment of recieving a shipped package and opening it as well! RB2 just has more and better songs than GH4 will, so it's a no-brainer on which one will have a lot more playtime. Btw, don't even trying bringing up the custom song thing from GH4 since that shit looked so complex that you'd have to be seasoned in that kinda shit to make a decent knockoff (cuz we all know there's no originality left in the world).

Are the drums less noisy? If they are i'll get em

Ok so I've heard that the drums won't be compatible with rock band because of the obvious symbol differences. And now I'm hearing that they are backward compatible?! Does anyone actually know for sure or is it going to be best guess until someone actually tries it?

rofl @ bradello, learn to like good music, tool owns your face. Plus just because your love is for alanist morisette and cock sucking dream theatre, doesnt mean you have any knowledge of music, anyone who buys rockband and loves it is way more of a "poser" you fool, poser is a over used word used by posers.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
