As long as they are catering to the Youtube Kids i dont bother anymore with this Game. Sucks that the Campaigns are mostly enjoyable though, i wait for it to drop to 20, which nowadays happens pretty fast with the COD Games, i remember back then COD4 was still mostly full price even 10 months down the road, it was just that popular.

Even if they kept the gameplay as it is, it's the engine that needs an overhaul. Not the stupid marketing "IW 6.0" bollocks or whatever engine they claim to be on, at the end of the day the game is running on the Quake III engine, i.e. id Tech 3. Think about that for a minute. The world's most popular game still uses code from an engine that was developed almost a decade and a half ago. They are still paying id royalties to this day. Why don't they use the Rage engine, i.e. id Tech 5? The game could still run at 60fps and would look fantastic. I know graphics aren't everything, but that change alone would mean a lot to the Call of Duty franchise.

I would love to hear suggestions from people on what to change instead of just complaining. I mean please explain how to make this MULTI-MILLION dollar franchise better.
Changes like Assassins creed has every year (the story and three weapons), changes like Mass effect (story and combat rolls), or maybe like changes in battle field (maps and a more optimized engine). Oh wait....

On topic: The COD formula hasn't changed since COD 2, I can't speak for cod1 since I didn't play it but every game since number 2 has been exactly the same. Just like halo has a formula also; grenade guns melee... Battlefield has one too.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

#12, I think you will find that Cawa Doody is very broken. Well, at least the Neolithic Quake engine is.
On another note, I don't think Activision have a good understanding of what the term 'key demographic' means. I am now seeing Mother Energy drink ads promoting Ghosts. Seeing that only 10 year olds still play the franchise, I don't think its a good idea they should have this kind of sponsor. Fisher Price maybe but not Mother.

Though I am inclined to agree, I miss some of the timeless maps, like Ambush, Crossfire, Backlot - some of the best multiplayer CoD maps ever made (all CoD 4 of course), as these were a mixture of large areas, tight corridors, enterable structures and of course AWESOME GLITCHES :D

Gonna have to agree that they can't change TOO MUCH as far as gameplay is concerned, but it is time for a major overhaul of the engine that they build upon. It'd be one "season" of uncomfortable transition for fans and then everybody would be used to it. I mean, at this point CoD is big enough to survive such a move; why delay until people jump ship?

My fix to the problem; don't buy the series anymore. If we were to compare CoD 2011 to CoD 2013 I think would see a massive update.
What leaves a bad taste in my mouth is how we have to pay every year to experience slight changes. Why do you think games like Battlefield and Grand Theft Auto are such renowned? Even as others have said Assassin's Creed is becoming lackluster. 2 compared to 1 was amazing but over saturate the market and we've got some small steps towards innovation.
Get rid of one of the devs have CoD come out every 2 years. Will they? Fuck no.

I don't think Infinity Ward understand how CoD work's as an E-Sport do they? It isn't the series that's an E-sport, it's individual games. The most balanced will be the one most accepted competitively, though each game will get recognition as an E-sport game because of their popularity, there is no reason what so ever that there can't be change, this is just Infinity Ward saying 'We're scared to change and loose what we had'.
Video-games are recognisable E-sports, hell, go an play Star Craft/2 competitively, then tell me there's no sense of 'mastering' the game.'. Games are built around competition, just as any sport is, there is very little difference between the two when you look at them right.
I stopped buying into the franchise a few years back, MW2 was the last that I bought, I won't buy another one unless I see it for literal pennies, because they've failed to keep the series fresh. Keeping it TOO the same has damaged the series. Hell, it's only 'next gen' that we're seeing any real kind of map change (blowing the roof of the gas station down, unless you include blowing a very small path) which just leave's me thinking 'Ive seen better use of that in games from the ps2/xbox1 generation'.
Stop making excuse's for being lazy and uncreative.

@23 - Very much agree with you.
For me ACIV is looking pretty cool, but I'm just praying it's a step up from AC3, which I felt was very lack luster.
But i think what IW meant to say was:
"We can't change the formula, we don't need to. It 's already making a sh*t load of money so why the hell should be innovate?"
They will literally milk this down until the franchise is nothing but ashes.

and they've just confirmed it for me, we keep the whining 12 year olds happy, fucking those who want play properly in arse. by that i mean they'll probably keep the following:
1) Quick scoping: get the fuck out. this is the WORST method i've heard of, i cant be alone when i get pissed off with this, THEN get flamed for HARDSCOPING, you the way your MEANT to...
2) Lag infested matches: since BlOps 1 the games BOTH infinity ward and Treyarch have been riddled with lag, sometimes you can hit the enemy ONCE and they drop like a sack of spuds, other times you can empty an entire mag into them and do nothing, all because of lag. the kill cams PROOVE there is something wrong when i unload about 15-20 bullets into my target, but the kill cam says i only fired 3-5 shots...
3) people who dont play the objective: kick them, then temp ban them from that gametype. repeated offences will result in PERMA-BANS from those gametypes. what this means is TDM will ALWAYS be full, cos thats what every c**t plays no matter what game mode your in. i cant be the only one who has this annoyance, i play Domination but 75% of the time im the only one capturing, i then get MURDERED by the entire enemy team, then flamed for being shit...
in short, they need to do a LOT of work in my opoinion, the games looking broke as hell and isnt even out yet!

So basically he is saying they're too scared to change. Being a developer and making games is taking risks sometimes. They could do something great with gaming history and put together a new series. A powerful story and a new multiplayer experience but they just want what is best for them. That means their pockets. And it is easy for them cause they can just refurbish the last cod and they don't even need to do that much. But hey, if they took the risk, and made a great game they wouldn't have to worry. And wouldn't it be more fun to try to make a new one?

I know some people might disagree with me, but I think gaming is a sport, as far as that definition goes. But do I think CoD is a sport? No/Yes. IW has failed for the past 2 games to put system link in when they said they would, which limited it and why MLG and other competitive communities only used it at a finals and nothing that would be there year round. So they have no excuse to change it. Treyarch on the other hand actually improved it a lot with how they did BO2.

I'm indifferent on the whole COD situation. On one side I understand how IW is saying that they don't want to completely change the core experience and the series does continue to sell very well. However, my personal opinion is the series has become a bit dull. I loved Call of Duty 2-4. Thought MW2 and blackops were pretty good as well. Since those titles I have not bought a title since. While I know thats just my opinion I do feel others would agree with me in saying I wish their would be two or three new jaw dropping features that would make it impossible for fans to resist. Maybe next year on next generation consoles they will innovate more.

Call of Duty: "We're adding Squads to our game, we think it's exciting and interesting to do this to our franchise!"
Battlefield: "Haven't we been doing that forever? I'm beginning to think it's a bit odd that CoD is now stealing from us..."
Call of Duty: "We're not stealing! It's a direction we've always wanted to go in!"
Battlefield: "But, you guys release a game every single year and have never implemented it, while we release one every 2 or 3 years and have had the system for a while..."
Call of Duty: "It's going to be great in our game!"
Battlefield: "How? You're an Arcade Shooter that wouldn't really benefit from such a system in the least since a Squad System is more about tactics and less about twitch reflexes and carrying the biggest stick possible."
Call of Duty: "Shut up! It's going to be awesome!"
I enjoy some of the Call of Duty games. One of the things I would like to see is the company actually caring about its playerbase. You know, actually banning cheaters. You know, the guys who mod their systems and put on cheats like auto-aim? Yeah, I'd love to see those guys perma-banned a la Halo style. The fact that I see far more cheaters in any random Call of Duty game than I do in Battlefield is a good indicator that the company doesn't care one iota about its customers once they've purchased the game. Another thing I'd like to see changed? Prestige. I think if you prestige, you should get some actual tangible rewards that add incentive to those pricks who never do it because they're afraid they'd lose their best stuff if they did it. Incentive like... I dunno, a stat point to place on your character? Something that perhaps adds a specific boost to a gun type or your character? Maybe items that can only be unlocked if you prestige? Perhaps that super God Gun everyone is using can only be obtained at max prestige? Maybe certain perks can only be unlocked at certain prestige levels? I'd also like to see quick scoping removed. As in, impossible to do it because the laws of reality and physics wouldn't let you. Change it so that you must either be fully scoped to fire, or fully unscoped to fire, no ability to fire in any of the "in between" zone.
