Xbox Live Scheduled Maintenance

As Microsoft gears up to bring you the New Xbox Experience (NXE), Xbox LIVE and the Xbox LIVE page on Xbox.com will be down for 24 hours, beginning on September 29, 2008 from 12:01 AM PST until 11:59 PM PST. During this time you will not be able to access Xbox LIVE.

Note that this does NOT mean the NXE will be available on September 30th, this is prep work on the back end. Also, given their record, don't hold your breath for it to come up exactly at 11:59 PM. My personal opinion is that you can reasonably expect services to be up by noon the following day. For those with blogs on 360voice.com, their typical approach is to not count the 29th for streaks but streaks will not be interrupted due to the outage.

I can only hope that creating an avatar to dance around on the dashboard is an option. I really like the dashboard now, I dont want it to look anything like the wii.

I actually look at my dashboard.
Also I enjoyed gamer pictures, not the Wii Mii crap. The new dashboard looks very empty and lame. Like some sort of cheap DVD menu...

As long as I'm still able to continue to play online, the update is just a bonus. Plus, I don't think you HAVE to have an avatar and can just stay with the gamer pics. Anyway, I think the new design looks pretty good and more accessible. Thanks for the heads up!

Man, I can't believe this. The NXE might come soon. Oh, by the way, there are 6 new maps coming to Halo 3. they are called: Assembly, Orbital, Heretic, Longshore, Citadel and Sandbox. There is no release date yet, though.

I'm really excited for this.
Not the downtime, but the NXE.
Avatars should be fun, I like customization.

But I wonder if they'll have an effect on the time it takes to recover your Gamertag?

I think this is confusing some people please read it properly its not the NXE just preperation for it.

My estimate of release from the hints major nelson has given is the end of October just in time for gears of war 2 because horde needs the group chat option to work properly best launch title to test on to because every1 will be on it!!

The group private chat is going to be very nice (especially when boosting), but i think the video streaming from netflix will be my favorite part of this update. I'm also not too excited about the addition of these "Mii's"

I personally think it looks like a mix between the ps3's scroll down and the wii mii's. If you look at the UI for the PS3 it seems to look like what Major Nelson had to do to get to customization in the video blog that was on utube.

I think like all things new, it takes time to get to learn it, but it will eventually be accepted as the norm.

When xp first came out tons of people hated it, just how they hate vista, and how a lot of people are hating on the new dashboard

I first read this, and I was pissed. There is a GTA4 Live Weekend event that weekend and I was looking forward to pulling that game out and playing it again.

This outage actually starts on Monday, after the weekend is over....good timing XBL.

Yes, I do look at my dashboard. Well, I do now. When this new dashboard drops I will have to change my settings so that the game launches automatically at startup so I never have to look at this abomination, or ever mess with the horrible avatars.
