Lionhead Studios has revealed that Fable Anniversary has been delayed into February 2014.

Initially slated for a “holiday 2013” release, the HD enhanced remake of the classic Xbox title has been held back in order for Lionhead to give fans “the best game possible.”

“We’ve been working hard for the past year to bring you the very best Fable Anniversary experience on Xbox 360,” lead designer Ted Timmins wrote on the Lionhead blog. “We feel though, that we need a little more time in order to meet our ambitions and give you, the fans, the best game possible.

“I know I speak for everyone at Lionhead when I say that we can’t wait for you to see what we’ve been up to, and it gives us great pleasure to let you know that you can expect Fable Anniversary to be both on-shelves and online via the Xbox Games Store in February 2014.”

“It’s not easy making these decisions.”

  • Hopefully it'll be on the Xbox One then, otherwise I sadly won't be getting it.
  • They knew the game would get lost within the GTAV hype. I don't mind the wait.
  • I don't mind waiting either. As Shigeru Miyamoto said, "A rushed game is bad. A delayed game is eventually good." Barring Duke Nukem Forever and Aliens: CM.
  • Ok, a quarter later only is acceptable ;) Fable 1 was great, now with Cheevos will be fun once more :)
  • I agree with #2 better to leave it till the hype of GTA V has calmed down... but that would be like NEVER! It does look a fantastic remake of the game :)
  • Damn it! Would love it on XB1 but doubt it would be as low as £25 like the 360 version.
  • Smart move, a lot of upcoming ganes are going to get blown away by the GTA hypetrain, especially if GTA Online is as god as Rockstar are saying. Happy to wait until 2014 for this, should be great
  • They're "tweaking" the aging rate for the character, so you won't be an old man 10 hours into the game... but it's taking more coding than planned. Personally... it'll be worth the wait if they get that fixed! It has nothing to do with whatever else is launching. Those who want it will buy it, regardless of what other games release around its release!!
  • @3....Considering 3D Realms was piss farting around with DNF.
  • Christmas sales would have really helped them but their loss. I still have fable 1+2 which i snagged for £4.50. Bargain.
  • I knew it, way too late in the year to not even have a release date. Looks like Feb will be a busy month for gaming. @10 Its only £25 anyway.
  • I don't mind the wait, to be honest I was hoping to us the rest of this year to get through all the games I have brought but never played.
  • It hasn't been delayed to avoid GTA hype. Launching Holiday means it could've come in November/December, months after GTA.
  • This is really disappointing. Not necessarily that it got pushed back, just that so far there's been no mention of a Xbox One release. This and Dark Souls 2 would have been day one buys for me as I love the series, but I will be getting a Xbox One. So if there is no release for the new-gen of consoles, I and most likely plenty of others will be screwed out of good games by upgrading to a new console. Sorry, just had to get that out.
  • Thats stupid, it hasnt been delayed they just dont want to release it when xbox one releases because these loads of new games to get snd that game will be forgotten. Not to mentioned the console nobody will be able afford thins game. And this game will have to be £20 now, they have just made a big mistake if it was summer they coculd of got away with £29.99 I really like f able but was so irritated when theysaid holiday and it wasnt the summer holiday (english based company). Apprentley they meant christmas but didn't say a word. I wanted to play all the fables before xbox one comes out.
  • @8 "It has nothing to do with whatever else is launching. Those who want it will buy it, regardless of what other games release around its release!!" I'm not sure you have a very good grasp of consumerism. If I have £40 to use to purchase a game, and two games are released that I want to buy, one of them is going to lose out. It's likely to be the remake of the game I already played rather than the shiny new thing that all of my friends will be playing and discussing. @15 There is no 'summer holiday' in the UK. Or anywhere else that I'm aware of. 'Holiday' always means 'Christmas'. I can only assume you got confused with your school holiday in July/August. That's your misunderstanding I'm afraid - companies do not refer to or pay any attention to school holidays.
  • Wow now only Xbox 360 game I want in October 2013 is Batman: Arkham Origins. October 2013 got 2 Wii U games and 3 PS3 games I want while one Xbox 360 game now before were 2 but now not because of this game. I understand sometime game need delay to polishes more and more and better and better so raise and repeat through developing so game will be great. :) I cannot wait for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Wii U), Batman: Arkham Origins (Xbox 360, Wii U, PS3, 3DS and PC), Beyond: Two Souls (PS3) and Sonic: Lost World (Wii U and 3DS) in October 2013. Those 4 biggest titles in October. It is should be 5 but now 4 because of again this game delayed. :) Interests that Xbox 360 got quiet time in October before November madness time for Xbox One hits with some Xbox 360 games release as well. :)
  • It's funny how the only Microsoft published game i was looking forward to this year was a remake... and now it's not even coming out this year... Seriously, what happened? MS used to publish so many great games...
  • #18 Lol well Microsoft usually published few exclusive titles every years while Sony and Nintendo getting so many. But Xbox One seem better this time or maybe just because of launch but Microsoft said Xbox One will have more number of exclusive titles then Xbox 360 offer had and look like Xbox One returns from original Xbox since original Xbox got so many exclusive titles then Xbox 360. Xbox 360 got lots of exclusive titles for XBLA but I not talk about downloadable because main force on retail though. :)
  • @18 Because the focus is next gen.
  • I bet it will be as awesome as original while also updated nicely to current gen standards. But like with Halo HD, I have already played it and there is more new games I want to play than I have time for, so I will pass on this and most of HD remakes, to be fair. Unless it's something I haven't played and always wanted to=D
  • Well, that sucks. If it means the game gets better, then great but I was really looking forward to playing this, this year. @1 I doubt it, because they said that the only reason they're doing this, is because they just want their trilogy all on a single platform.
  • I thought it was strange that it was coming out around the ninth anniversary anyway.
  • They can delay it as long as they like, it's such a tedious franchise!
  • I can't wait to play it. It will be the deciding factor for me as to whether I appreciate Fable for what it used to be or hate it altogether. None of the recent Fable games have even been worth mentioning.
  • Dont mind the wait, just hope its to put this on the Xbox One, I don't see myself using my 360 much unless I'm playing rockband
  • NO!!
  • @20 you say that, meanwhile the ps3 has last of us, beyond:two souls, puppeteer, and many more exclusives this year. This is just sad :/
  • well, this means end of march for me, i got Lightning Returns on pre-order, and after FF XIII-2's ending, im gonna play that before anything else that comes out on or after the 14th of February...
  • @1 and @14: Just because you're getting the Xbox One doesn't mean your 360 is going to stop working, you know! They're not screwing you out of anything, really. That said, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on this. And now it's coming out around my birthday! :)
  • That's lame, looks like I won't be getting it until a bit after it's release :P
