The first screenshots for Tropico 5 have landed, showcasing the game's lush tropical paradise island and its beautiful idyllic towns and villages, just waiting to be screwed by El Presidente.

This time you'll be taking up the mantle of the benevolent or malevolent (depending on how you play) dictator through different eras, from early colonial times to the modern day, charting the island of Tropico's evolution from the 19th to 21st century.

Tropico 5 will be introducing the new Dynasties mode, as well as competitive and co-op multiplayer, when it launches sometime in 2014. Check out some of the new pre-alpha screenshots below. You'll find the rest in the gallery.

  • Off topic: Rockstar is releasing a new GTA V trailer tomorrow, just saying, for you that didn't already know. On topic: Looks really good, looking forward to trying it out! :D
  • I seriously enjoyed Tropico 4 and if these first screenshots are anything to go by then I will enjoy Tropico 5 as well.
  • Never played any of the tropico games but this looks quite good might get it if its next gen
  • Really want to get back into Tropico 3. Played it briefly 2 years ago, and it seems like a fun game. More in depth than Civilization Revolution is. Could do with something to last me.
  • Wow! Looks amazing. This will be the first Tropico game I buy. Looking at this, I'm wondering if we'll be getting Civ 5 or 6. Also I wish people would stop spamming the comments to every article about GTA 5. We get it, it looks amazing and we're all gonna get it, so relax already.
  • @5 Another Civ would be awesome! :D
  • Just played tropico 4 to completion a couple weeks ago, absolutely loved it! Cannot wait for this game!
  • Tropico 4 was addictive, enjoyed all the many hours I sunk into it so obviously super excited for Tropico 5.
  • I recently went back and maxed tropic 3. Did tropic 4 and its dlc when they came out. Now I cannot wait for this!
  • Looks like the typical Tropico, but with some slightly updated graphics. Can't say i would be overly excited of this fifth title, but i would be glad to pick it up for a reasonable price, due to better graphics and co-op. Tropico 3 was a fun strategy experience, and sadly quite unknown.
  • @10 I think its a completely new engine and game from what the developers have said in the past when this was first announced.
  • Too bad about Multiplayer. The Tropico series has always been fun without it, why ruin a good thing?
  • Day 1 purchase for me. I have loved this series, even back in it's PC days. I cannot wait until this next incarnation is released.
  • I can't wait to dive back into paradise. I loved the previous installments and I am Sure with co-op me and my friends can get a bang for our buck.
