Activision Plan to Make Annual Bond Titles

Activision Plan to Make Annual Bond Titles
Written Tuesday, September 16, 2008 by Dan Webb

Analysts at Cowen and Company told GameIndustry.biz that Activision Blizzard are set to release annual James Bond games following the release of Quantum of Solace.

Analyst Doug Cruetz stated that "James Bond will become an annual franchise, which we had not necessarily expected given the lack of an accompanying movie next year."

We here at x360a aren't exactly too thrilled by the news, I mean look what it did to the Call of Duty franchise, which is a great franchise in its own right. It made it a bit of a mockery of it with the franchise's direction and style changing back and forth every year.

Oh Activision, when will you learn, that quantity does not necessarily mean quality. If they can create quality, yearly editions, then super, but chances of that, ranges from slim to none. If I'm wrong, I don't mind eating my own words.

Yeah this is going to be just like every other game. Turn out a different version each year. Thats why people get sick of it quick. Look what it did to guitar hero. It's all about selling out. GHWT isn't even out yet and they already announced GH Metallica.

You hit the nail on the head with the comparison to Call of Duty. They have the "B-team" Treyarch put out these craptastic Call of Duty games every other year just so they can make some cheap cash while Infinity Ward makes the REAL Call of Duty games. Smart business, but crap for anyone who can recognize a quality game vs. a cheap imitation.

And isn't it ironic that Treyarch is making this Bond game (and I assume any future cash grabs)? Yes, we can expect just another mediocre crapfest.

WAIT.

It could be good if Solace is a good game.

Then it's about a story sequel.

Call of duty 3 was OK. The MP was where it lacked IMHO. The COD4 engine plays wonderful online.

madden meets bond

this could be bad for graphics

Sigh. They should just make every title like this with the year after it, so it would be like James Bond 2009, Call of Duty 2009, Guitar Hero 2009, to really drive the point of mediocrity home.

1 good thing about treyarch is that we know which activision games to avoid

Id rather see you eat your hat than your words :(
(Though your chances of eating either are pretty slim)

you guys need to stop complaining about new games, seriously.
the call of duty games really aren't that bad, and quantum of solace is using the CoD4 engine, which i'm sure we can all agree plays really well.

i for one am happy about this providing that qos lives up to the engine it's running on and what people forget is that they have all the old bond films and books use as games and there is definately potential for decent games. imagine playin as roger moore and havin the lb and rb buttons control his eyebrows. lol

Great news, I'm a huge Bond fan, even the games won't be top notch, I'll still be pleased.

I love Call of Duty 3.
But I did like CoD2 & CoD4 better.
I didn't know I wasn't suppose to like CoD3,
till everybody jumped on the hate bandwagon this year,
when CoD5:WaW was announced to be a Treyarch WWII.

I think CoD5:WaW is going to change people's mind's
about Treyarch and WWII, after they have played the game.

I don't think people are interested in James Bond games anymore. Wouldn't it be more prudent to see how the sales go first on this one?

i'm starting to feel that activision is becoming the next EA: milking every franchise, COD, GH and now the Bond liscence

If they make a next-gen Goldeneye, then fucking amazing!

But there's is no way that either A) Activision has the capability to make a game of that calibre, and B) a company can do while churning it out yearly like this.

Activision is run by morons, i swear.

Treyarch is to Activision what LJN was to Acclaim. A garbage developer. Meant solely to create cheap products to reel in enough money to further bankroll the bigger projects. Good business strategy but unfair to consumers who don't know any better and the legacy of the franchise.

@ #5: Have you tried Everything or Nothing? I love that game! Plus it's unique and stands out from the rest of the bond games because it's in 3rd person. I don't think it ever got the attention it deserved.

EA has moved up on my respectable list after Mr. Moore joined. Ubisoft is borderline failure and will have to prove themselves with Far Cry 2 and Prince of Persia.

Activision are all gone baby. All gone.

Great, another franchise that will be whored out and ruined by Activion. Here's an idea Activision, why not stop making the same games every year and, instead, work on one of the great titles you canned (like Ghostbusters, Brute Legends, and The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena)

Who the hell cares!?!? They want to make games every year...so what? More for us. If you want new games every year and don't care if you make a profit, go out and make them yourself.

When I hear activision I instantly think of how horrible the tony hawk games are. After THUG came out the series crashed, and I seriously fear this will happen with the bond series that already peaked on the N64. Although maybe it'll suprise me like the bourne game did.

yeah more churning and burning.

a lot of new games are almost clones anyway.

too human levels are very similar to those superhero gamers, marvel etc...run thru the lame maze kill sum baddies, find sum hiddens and level up. rinse repeat.

have to say tho i love the cods on the 360, great online.

#34 dont be such a faggot. As a gamer you should care, Treyarch is the butthole of the developers world when it comes to games developments and they took the Call of Duty IP (intellectual property) and smashed it into the ground and dropkicked it for good measure. Do you want to have a churned out game, every year just like EA do? It's annoyed me for the last 10 years since NHL 99 was being done by EA and my god we're at 09 already.

FUCK man

Come on Activision learn from your rival EA! You become like them by doing shit like this and will be in danger of losing at least 75% of your customers and fan base. Do not become the example of American greed that is rampant with too many of U.S. companies (Yes I am American).

If they do that the first couple will be good then they will jst get lazy and release unfinished games *coff* mercs 2 (EA) *coff*

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
