Wolfenstein: The New Order Delayed to 2014

Bethesda has delayed Wolfenstein: The New Order.

The Nazi-blasting shooter was originally intended to roll out this year, but it now won’t hit until 2014.

Speaking to Polygon Bethesda's Pete Hines explained that the game simply isn’t ready yet, due in part to the fact it’s launching on both current and next-gen systems.

"Working on next-gen and current gen definitely has an impact,” he said. “You're developing for two different things. The fact that the next-gen stuff is still moving is also definitely a factor.

"But the most important thing was definitely just looking where it was at, what they needed to polish. Because it's just not trying to be a shooter, because it's trying to be a shooter that also has driving elements, story elements, narrative, stealth sections - each one of those has to be excellent," he added.

Bad news, but we’d rather suffer a delay in order to get a GOOD game, rather than get a crap one on time.

We’ve covered Wolfenstein: The New Order pretty extensively thus far, delivering an in-depth preview as well as a video interview. They’ll have to tide you over until release next year.

  • I can wait. Still not sure what to think of this, and there's already too much coming out this year as it is.
  • "Bad news, but we’d rather wait longer for a bad game than get a crap one earlier." What? Is this article calling it a bad game before it's even close to being out. The hell? OT: One delay is one thing, multiple delays are another. Let's hope one delay is all they need to get it perfect.
  • @2 - Yeah, I've been noticing that the "journalists" on this site are putting a lot more of their personal thoughts and opinions into their stories than they should. Reported stories should really be unopinionated, as it is for newspaper writers and TV reporters. If it's a review, yeah, fine. But reporting a news story, they should really keep their personal opinions out of it.
  • @3 Its clearly a typo. At a guess I would say he was supposed to write something along the lines of he would rather wait for a good fixed game rather than them shipping a bad broken game.
  • @ Nevander - yah that had me scratching my head to, it reads odd. @ #3 - could just be a typo/mixup. They usually do exactly what you suggest. Think you're reading too much into it.
  • Woops. Brain fart. It's been a long day. Corrected now.
  • No biggie. I, to honest thought it was scheduled for 2014 anyway.. Take your time, Bethesda.
  • Is it odd that I don't really have any interest in this game? It just doesn't seem like anything special. Maybe it will be better and more interesting with the extra time they give it.
  • It is World War 2 and the Nazis, of course it will be a bad game. Just when I think we can leave WW2 in the past, someone always has to drag it back.

  • That is ok as long as game going be good. Let hope so. Plenty games coming between few weeks time and Christmas 2013. That is good to let some games delay to next year for polishes. :)
  • @9 World War 2 is still far more interesting than the Modern setting. OT: I can wait a little longer for the game. There are plenty of other games coming out that can keep me busy.
  • better they delay it and we get a proper wolfinstein game rather than another crap fest that we got called wolfinstein a few years back
  • @3 I noticed that to. and I have no problem with putting a bit of personal touch such as opinion into a article, such as that comment *it was a typo thank god as if they said that about any game before it came out or have a review copy of is just terrible*. But anything xbox 1 related they are against it appears that I have read. @9 and 12 its not a world war 2 setting this is based in the 60s so a bit different
  • I'll gladly take a delayed game that's worth the wait (BioShock Infinite)over one crapped out early (RE6).
  • I think there is more than enough games announced this year as it is, so this might be good move whatever the reason. Also, after reading GI short preview I am getting hopeful if they can mix modern story telling with old school gunplay=)
  • Damn, I have this on preorder. Looks to be loads better than the last Wolfenstein game though. Nice to have health in a game again too and not just the "hide behind a wall and wait to regen" shit we have today.
