hmm, interestingThursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:19 AM
Hopefully this is true. The one thing that is scaring me away from getting the Xbox One on launch is the fact that almost every launch Xbox 360 got the RROD.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:19 AM
They've got to say this coz if they said it'll shit itself after two years which is more likely, people won't pay £429Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:20 AM
... and Kinect to monitor for 10 yearsThursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:20 AM
I think #1 said it best.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:20 AM
I doubt that, it doesn't even look like it will work correctly after a year.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:21 AM
@#4 - They didn't say it wouldn't have problems, they said you could literally turn the power button on when you get it release day and never turn it off for 10 years. I've never heard of a piece of electronic equipment doing that before.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:22 AM
Its a great news... too bad its still uglyThursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:26 AM
yeah they said the slim was going to be silent as a ninja too yet its still loud as hell when its on.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:26 AM
Achievement Unlocked: Decade of Dedication, Keep Your XBOX ONE Powered On For Ten Straight Years.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:27 AM
I'm pretty sure that they mean for it to be in its 'low power state' for a majority of the 10 years. Leave it to Microsoft to word everything to sound better than it is. They've been doing that a lot lately.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:33 AM
#13: So? Apple do this when they announce the new iWhatever and claim it has a battery life of 72 hours. Sure, they mean in it's idle state in Airplane Mode, but they're not going to say that out loud.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:35 AM
Challenge accepted indeed lolThursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:37 AM
Honestly, if they are so convinced that it will last for 10 years. Give us 10 years warranty on the console so i wont have to worry about getting a new one after a couple of years.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:38 AM
My first 360 was by no means quiet but the PS3 is the loudest piece of electronic equipment I've ever owned. Before it died that is.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:39 AM
Haha the slim was touted as whisper quiet and mine sounds like a pigeon is trapped inside it. Believe it when I see it.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:47 AM
Thanks @17 Im in the middle of an office trying not to laugh at picturing that.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:52 AM
I wish I could do that. This heat is killing me.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:53 AM
Good news, I'll still be buying a warranty though.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:55 AM
@11 Yeah until you get a power cut.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:55 AM
@13 That doesn't just make it okay :P Apple is worse than Microsoft imo @15 Good point, but you'll still need to get a new one when they come out with bigger hard drives :/ They're non-replaceable, and I promise 500GB will fill up pretty fast.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:57 AM
Achievement unlocked: Have your xbone on for 10 years straight. No, really they should totally do it lol.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 09:57 AM
The PS3 is a million times louder than the 360. It's amazing how many complainers have come out of the woodwork lately. Almost makes me ashsmed to be a gamer now.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:03 AM
@10 My slim is more silent than my PS3 Slim so I do not see what you're talking aboutThursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:05 AM
@3 agreed. im not buying day one as im wary of the problem. my 360 is fine at the moment and i will leave it a couple of months until the kinks/ any problems have been found and dealt with.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:05 AM
"yeah they said the slim was going to be silent as a ninja too yet its still loud as hell when its on. " Because a DVD spinning at 16x is loud, install your gamesThursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:07 AM
@24 I don't know in what universe that is the case. I have both an Elite xbox and phat ps3 next to eachother and I can tell you that the 360 makes more noise, it's also a different kind of noise. Both are pretty audible, especially with hot weather. I wish consoles could be really quiet, like a mac mini, or my Mac Pro or like in the days of the nes (yes I know you can't compare, but you can still wish for it).Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:09 AM
@28 It's just like a car. The more horsepower you have under the hood, the louder it is. Sadly, noise reducing technology in this biz is always a few years behind.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:14 AM
I pretty much keep my 360 on all the time and it's fine.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:20 AM
@28 I have to agree with #16 & 24; My phat PS3 is ridiculously loud. Both my slims are nearly silent but I'll be honest I can't remember my original 360 being anywhere near as loud as the ps3.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:22 AM
@22 Didn't MS say that you could add an external hard drive to the One? I could've sworn I read that somewhere.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:22 AM
ive had a clock radio that does the same thingThursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:24 AM
@1 same thing I thought as soon as I saw the article.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:25 AM
@29 no its not like a car the noise is based on the fan, the hotter it gets the more noise it will produce, since the 360 had little to no heatsinks and just one fan it caused the fan to spin at a higher RPM to reduce heat. And I'm curious when you say PS3 makes more noise, do you even own a PS3? I've had my launch day PS3 and yet it's still quieter than my 360 Slim.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:25 AM
10 year's until Skynet is let loose from Microsoft's Xbox One that become's self aware. ;)Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:27 AM
@22/32 Yep, I highly doubt with the HD being internal and non replaceable they will release a future console with a bigger HD. Just go out and buy a TB external, should last for the majority of this consoles life.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:28 AM
My Xbox that i had for a little over a year has the RRoD... I hope the Xbox One really can live up to 10 years.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:34 AM
"...the next-gen console will be keep itself cool enough to stay on for the entirety of its life." So its life is only 10 years? That's no good! I still have my SNES, Dreamcast, Saturn, Master System... and so on...Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:35 AM
Does it levitate like in the picture or do we have to keep it off the carpet like the last console?Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:39 AM
Other than the optical drive (the one on my original 360 was ridiculously noisy), the rest of the noise in a console is the cooling fans, good quality bearings will run quietly, but the fan blades need to be kept clean too, to avoid an imbalance that wears out the bearings. The best option is to design an efficient cooling layout that doesn't need the fans to run at a high RPM, time will tell if the XBO scores points on that front. Of course, for the price they're charging, they could well water-cool the system, but that's a bit much to hope for...Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:49 AM
Software causes alot of hardware failures. So to say that it'll run for 10 years, that maybe so, but all it takes is 1 dodgy update and they do happen.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:58 AM
while it silently spies on you........Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 11:01 AM
@35 I do own a PS3 (Uncharted 3 320 GB bundle)and it is much louder than my 360 Elite. @39 Pretty sure no one is going to actually leave it on for 10 years straight. If so, I guess that person likes pissing away money. If you played 8 hours every day, the console would last you 30 years, assuming what they say is true. @41 Water cooling in a system that costs $500 would never happen. Only high end gaming rigs will showcase true water cooling. A decent water cooling system alone would run you a couple hundred.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 11:02 AM
Why is #13 talking to himself???Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 11:08 AM
This is just how long they are going to support it. This, however, doesn't mean the console will last that long (my xbox 360 had to be replaced 6 times within four months because of mutiple issues(red ring, controller and disc trays broken, bought modded and had to replace the next day, etc.)). I expect around 5 million at most consoles to be replaced because of rage, and the lack of looking for the best deal (cheaper a year later, or buying it on ebay rather than amazon or at gamestop)Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 11:15 AM
#44 Ok then your ps3 must be defective. I have an old phat ps3 40GB and it's quieter then my Elite 360. Not by much. But it's a more quiet. Certainly not louder. It's for a reason the early 360 were called vacuum cleaners because of the noise they made. Yes I had 2 of those too, but they died a long time ago XD They should make the fans removable. The bearings will wear anyway, so why not replace them.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 11:17 AM
@10, I have a halo 4 slim and I never hear a peep out of it, not even when I install a game. Now my other consoles that are the regular fat consoles, they sound like planes taking off when installing a game. Hopefully they'll give us a 10 yr warranty if they truly believe that it can run for 10 years.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 11:21 AM
Anyone remember xbox live labs? Where you get an achievement for running the lab test for 6 hours? That worried me enough that it get too hot, lol. I can't imagine the new one running 10 straight years without an issue.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 11:30 AM
This article write-up needs some work. They have a pic with the top off the X1 and the fan is HUGE. It's bigger than the Blu-ray drive.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 11:34 AM
Mine will be as cool and scilent as it can get, as I'm turning it off at the wall when it's not being used!Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 11:35 AM
Thats a relief. However, I'll still be waiting at least an year after next-gen consoles are out. Just incase. I wonder how many internal fans there are in the xbox one vs PS4?Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 11:39 AM
and after 10 years your xbone shuts off and bye bye to all your games. but mindless m$ drones are so mindless. everyone went through at least two xbox 360's in their day, the things were pieces of shit, what makes anyone think m$ has changed anything? oh well y'all can be the beta testers. entry fee is 600 bucks.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 11:49 AM
#53 lolololololololThursday, August 01, 2013 @ 11:53 AM
I have my Xbox 360 S running a GoD game right now. The console is completely silent. All the noise comes from the fans in the power brick. So, yes, the slim console DOES run completely silent, it is the stupid power brick that makes all the noise. Hopefully they reduce the noise of the power brick, if there is one.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 11:55 AM
Achievement unlocked 10000GS - Leaving your Xbox One powered on for 10 years.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 12:03 PM
@56 That joke ran its course about 40 comments ago, but nice one...Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 12:08 PM
@57 - Thanks for pointing that out. I'll send a memo out to everyone so it never happens again. Really, you're a credit to the site, keep up the good work!Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 12:12 PM
@53 I've actually only gone through one console, a 360 elite RRoD'ed, and my slim has had no trouble since I bought it nearly 3 years ago. I've had more issues with HD's, gone through 4 of them. So yeah, not everyone has gone through 2 consoles troll.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 12:18 PM
After having 4 consoles do the red ring thing, ill see what happens with this lolThursday, August 01, 2013 @ 12:19 PM
My original model xbox360 sounds like its going to kick the bucket any day now.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 12:23 PM
That's hard to believe.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 12:30 PM
When they say leave it on for 10 years, I'm sure they mean it will usually be on the low power 'sleep' state, not playing games or watching entertainment.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 01:35 PM
10 years? sure...Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 01:36 PM
Of course Microsoft want to spy on everyone for 10 years straight with their Kinect. I can't tell if the spybox even plays gamesThursday, August 01, 2013 @ 02:01 PM
My 360 has been going for almost 5 years now. so this will be interestingThursday, August 01, 2013 @ 02:02 PM
So that's 9 more years than the original 360 models then? =DThursday, August 01, 2013 @ 02:02 PM
Challenge accepted this is going to be legen wait for it wait for it dary!!!! Lengendary!!!!Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 02:10 PM
I like Microsoft's confidence in their work, let's hope it isn't misplaced. I've been through an unholy amount of 360's and would like to avoid the same fate for the One, but I think that was probably just my bad luck.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 02:35 PM
@58 Says the person with 15 forum posts and 0 guides written. Before you tell me I don't contribute to this site, maybe do some research.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 02:37 PM
socket on the wall says turn me off to save power.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 02:51 PM
I like how it's only quiet in idle state. On another note, my 25 year old NES still runs perfectly.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 03:03 PM
@27 I mostly play digitally downloaded titles and my 360 is loud. Quite loud. @44 The point of Xbox One isn't to turn it off, it is to put it in idle when you aren't playing, watching TV, or using one of its apps.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 03:16 PM
87600 hours? Challenge accepted.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 03:44 PM
For some of the people saying the PS3 is really loud. That's not true. I have a PS3 which does get very loud after the fan kicks on to it's highest level after about 10 minutes. But that's because you have a defect in it or a malfunction of the fan. Also maybe something to do with the thermapaste. I know it's not all PS3's because I borrowed my friend's PS3 while mine was in the pawnshop a couple times & his was whisper quiet all day and night for several nights. Whereas mine, the fan kicks on after just 10 minutes of a disc spinning. So just to point it out there, don't say all PS3's are louder than the Xbox. Plus Xbox's aren't even loud any more. Just install each game when you play it and you won't hear any noise except when it spins to start up.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 04:23 PM
I believe it...I still have my first Xbox 360 which I bought in 2007 and the only reason I don't use it is that it's banned from Xbox Live ( My stupid fault for chipping the damn thing...) but it still works fine...also...@53 Microsoft wouldn't just shut everything down like that..A patch will probably be released to allow offline play in the future...Or are you one of those trolls that shit all over everything that Microsoft has done from the announcement of the Xbox One...If so theres a link on top of the page that says PS3 trophies...take your bullshit there...Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 05:30 PM
That's "cool" as long as you pay for my electricity billThursday, August 01, 2013 @ 05:34 PM
all M$ needs to do to convince me to get a xbone is to make one that does not force me to have a kinect, let alone always have it hooked up.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 06:31 PM
This will just be for it being in perfect room condition, put that down to 5-8 in average conditions, less in bad conditions, and for someone who takes care of their console, much longer.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 08:54 PM
Better come with a 10 year warranty then. If they're going to talk, they better be willing to back it up.Thursday, August 01, 2013 @ 10:39 PM
I'm sure Microsoft would have no problem putting at least an 8 year warranty on the Xbox One. ;)Friday, August 02, 2013 @ 04:39 AM
If this turns out to be true - all well and good, but why would anyone leave the XBOne powered on for a decade.Friday, August 02, 2013 @ 10:23 AM
My original 360 is maybe 5 years old and still doing fine. House is at about 82 degrees during the summer, and it didn't always have good ventilation and I had a bad habit of leaving it on for days at a time, even a week once.Friday, August 02, 2013 @ 04:53 PM
I have 2, an elite, and a slim.. never had problems with either, and didn't find either loud really. My ps3 I don't find loud, but the first day I played it I thought there was something wrong with it when it was reading the disk. I took the disk out to make sure it was okay Lol.. I don't notice it anymore though.Friday, August 02, 2013 @ 11:39 PM
Cool but what do we have to look forward to breaking next? RRoD wasn't the only problem with the 360 in the first few years. There were plenty of disc tray problems amongst other issues.Sunday, August 04, 2013 @ 05:46 PM
What if we get EMP'd by the Russians, the stay on idea goes out the window then doesn't it?Sunday, August 04, 2013 @ 09:09 PM
Tristan. I agree that Francisco`s stori is surprising, on monday I got a new Saab 99 Turbo since getting a cheque for $9386 this past 5 weeks and more than ten-grand lass month. it's definitly the most financialy rewarding Ive ever had. I actually started 10-months ago and pretty much immediately startad making over $85 per-hr. I work through this website, .................zee44.com

The Xbox One is designed to be powered on for an entire decade and run almost silently, says the latest reports.
That’s according to Digital Foundry citing “highly placed sources” who claim that the next-gen console will be keep itself cool enough to stay on for the entirety of its life.
As part of this, and Microsoft’s intention to keep the box at the heart of the home, the console is also designed to be near silent in its idle state.
Noise and heat reduction are subjects close to Microsoft’s heart. The Red Ring of Death problem that blighted Xbox 360s was put down to overheating. It also sounded like Concord taking off.
These Red Ring problem reportedly cost Microsoft over $1 billion.
