Mercenaries 2: World in Flames - Petrol for the People

Mercenaries 2: World in Flames - Petrol for the People
Written Friday, September 05, 2008 by James Parkin

‘Mercenaries’ from Electronic Arts are hijacking a London petrol station this morning and giving away £20,000 of FREE petrol to customers.

The entire forecourt of Last Stop Ltd near Finsbury Park, North London will be completely transformed into that of a military style bunker, with jeeps, oil barrels, sandbag walls, and fully costumed actors on hand to pump the petrol for the customers.

The stunt is taking place to celebrate the launch of new videogame Mercenaries 2: World in Flames out today on Xbox 360, PS3, PS2 and PC:DVD. The activity mirrors that of the game, which features a mercenary soldier taking possession of the local oil supply.

The full address of petrol station is - Last Stop Ltd, 73, Stapleton Hall Rd, London, N4 3QF

im only a 1hour drive away from there but with the queue of people waiting there it would take forever.i wish they only gave out free petrol to gamers on this occassion rather than everyone as they wouldnt appreciate it from the game.

Hehe, from the BBC article... you wouldn't think a guy called Prince Davis would need a few quid's worth of free petrol.

That is awesome, and is a really great idea. For the guys over in America, petrol (gas) here costs £1.15 per litre, which is about $12 per gallon. With the average tank full costing £50 here, that's more than the cost of the game (£40). Looks like the Londoners have got a bloody good deal today!

UPDATE UPADATE UPDATE

This promotion has now been shut down by the local police force. Approximately 6700 customers got free petrol and around £10,000 worth of petrol was given away. The promotion was open for a total of four hours and tailbacks (queues) went for miles and miles. The local councils had hundreds of complaints within minutes as it completely halted all traffic in the area.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

EA did the same thing in L.A., which is decent of them I guess. I would have liked to see them put this money to better use and actually hire out some QA so it wouldn't have been released with so many bugs.

Yeah £ doesn't work, but $ does....Go figure.
This is a cool stunt and the game is just amazing, one of the best games I've played in a long while. Way better than GTA 4. Only thng that could top this may be Just Cause 2.

Downloadable content - achievements or no achievements - will you buy it with or without them?
If the content is good, or for a game I love, I'll buy it regardless of whether chievos are included
I'll still buy and play the downloadable content, but achievements would be nice.
Who the hell cares!?
No achievements, no sale ... and that goes for any game ... whether you're GTA or Halo!
Just stop with the DLC achievements full stop ... you're ruining my completion percentage dammit!
