E3 2013: Microsoft "Couldn't be Happier" With Xbox One Price

E3 2013: Microsoft "Couldn't be Happier" With Xbox One Price

The price of Microsoft's Xbox One was announced earlier this week, and it's significantly more expensive than the PlayStation 4.

Despite this, however, Microsoft is confident that it got the pricing of its next-gen console right, saying that it "couldn't be happier."

"We feel great about the value of Xbox One," Microsoft's corporate vice-president Phil Harrison has told The Telegraph

"It's a unique architecture, with Kinect and the power of the cloud. What we showed yesterday was the most incredible games line-up in any first few months of a platform launch, many of which are exclusive and all of which have advantages being on Xbox One. That's what's really going to drive value.

"We couldn't be happier with the price we're starting at."

The Xbox One launches in November and will cost $499 in North America,  €499 in Europe, and £429 in the UK.

The console’s competitor, the PS4, is out this Christmas and will cost $399 in North America, €399 in Europe and £349 in the UK.

  • Lammmeee
  • I suspect behind the scenes they're holding their breath.
  • Pleaaaaaaase offer a no kinect version for £320-340ish
  • Of course they couldn't be happier. It's $ time for them...
  • I dont mind the £429 price-tag, the only thing thats bugging me is unfair exchange rate prices that favour the US massively
  • Try saying that with a straight face AFTER it comes out.
  • I would be happier if they DIDN`T make you have a Kinect!!!
  • Microsoft is confident that it got the pricing of its next-gen console right, saying that it "couldn't be happier." They were quoted just before they drove off in the gold plated Ferrari's
  • How is this news? This seems like propaganda used to fuel the bias against the Xbox One, led by Lee Bradley himself. [facepalm]
  • £429 is fine with me. Hopefully it'll discourage some of the loud mouth chavs you encounter on live from buying it.
  • Didn't Phil Harrison use to work for Sony?
  • Well, with everything else that they've done, with the forced Kinect use and iffy used game policy, it looks like I couldn't be happier switching to the PS4.
  • I get it Microsoft. The extra 100$ is for the stupid Kinect. But I shall ask, why is it a must instead of a plus ? Give us an edition without Kinect two yearss from now and I'll buy it.
  • I work and earn good money, so I really don't feel like it's a unreasonable price. For others though it probably is. The ps4 is only cheaper because it hasn't bundle move and the eye (I think that's what it's called) with console. Bundle them, it will be over £400. What I don't understand is, everyone saying that Sony owned Microsoft at e3? Microsofts conference was easily better and killed sonys! Sony spent all their time talking about the new console (which they should've done at the console reveal event, hence the name), the psvita and multi-platform games? Microsoft announced a strong line up of core exclusives and some nice improvements to Xbox live. Based on games Microsoft won!
  • I wouldnt call $100 a significant difference.
  • Honestly I was expecting a much larger price for both consoles, price seems fine to me.
  • They need a new PR team. When you think you're sitting comfy this late in the game, this is when you're at your most vulnerable position. @3 http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/05/21/xbox-one-will-not-function-without-kinect-attached It's not possible.
  • @ #5 If you add VAT to the US price it would bring it to ~£384 which narrows the gap slightly. Remember all US prices are always without tax etc. included.
  • The majority will moan about it, but they'll still buy into it. I'll stick with the 360 & PS3. There's still a pretty strong line-up of games this year for them.
  • @5. Its got nothing to do with the exchange rate, its the tax and duty the British governent impose on it when its shipped in. With that said, the exchange rate and British goverment aren't controlled by Microsoft. Or are they!
  • $499 ~ £320 - I know we always pay a premium, but a £109 premium seems a bit much. If I get a US PS4 (as they are region-less), it would cost ~£255. So a difference of over £170. Would just need to buy a plug.
  • @18 the amount of keyboard warriors that didn't know that beggars belief.
  • Microsoft corporation needs a slap in the face and kick in the butt, seriously. Everyone, spread the word! I'm sick and tired of all this. Boycott the XBOX ONE. Make them regret not fulfilling their customer's wishes and making fools of themselves.
  • @15, I agree! Not to mention, you'll have to dish out an addition $50-100 for the Playstation Move (or whatever it is called) to have the same features as Kinect. Also, I'm not sure I get why everyone is so upset about the used game market. Yeah, I would like to be able to sell my game. But PC gamers have been purchasing licenses for years (as opposed to the game itself) and are fine.
  • @23 what did they not fulfil? Please enlighten me.
  • Just goes to show how out-of-touch with the average gamer Microsoft has become.
  • Do people forget that the 360 was $500 when it first came out? Honestly, that's what kept me away initially (well, RRoD as well), but I was also harder up for cash then. I... (sigh)... pre-ordered one. I feel a bit of shame, but I can always back out if more negative stuff comes out. Time will tell, but for now, I guess I'm drinking the Kool Aid.
  • they could make a 400$ Box without the useless Kinect Cam!
  • @27 It was not $500. Do your research. But on a related topic, the PS3 was overpriced and it hurt its sales.
  • @25 How about the fact that Microsoft basically wants complete control of your system even after you've bought it? Kinect can never truly be turned off, trying to stop used games (and hiding behind publishers while doing it) and achievements tied to things like watching tv shows and adverts. I have my 360 to play games, and it seems like those will be taking a back seat to everything else they are pushing. The Xbox One seems like it is designed to pull in marketing info, with gaming as an afterthought.
  • I'm fine withe the price ; you get what you pay for and it reflects this. I take it all the haters on these forums don't own any apple products that cost way more, do less (IMO) & get superceded every year?!? THAT extortionate & overpriced if you ask me.... Perspective people, let's keep some.
  • 4: Exactly! You're not supposed to be unhappy with the price, because you know people are going to buy it. WE'RE the ones supposed to be unhappy with the price! and, at the very least, I am. lol
  • When it doesn't sell as well as they anticipate, they will price drop it to match PS4...probably in Spring 2014 or at E3 2014.
  • no im pretty sure the 360 was $399 when it first came out. And that was for a 20g hard drive. But correct me if im wrong.
  • @14 Based on exclusives, meh...its close. There are a few exclusives that are good enough to convince me to buy an xbox one. That being said...every multiplatform game I am buying on ps4. If MS didn't have this stupid drm/required internet bullshit, I'd ignore the ps4 and only get an xbox one (especially since FF15 and KH3 are coming to xbox). I have no issue with the price (I'm buying both at launch). But...I prefer to be able to play my games anywhere. When KH3 comes out, I can take my PS4 to our cabin, away from all distractions, and play until I'm finished. My Xbox wouldn't do that. And 20 years from now, I can still play my PS4 games, where as my xbox games will probably be unavailable due to servers being closed. You're basically paying a $60 (or whatever price the new games are now) rental fee =/ I'll "rent" halo and titanfall, but that's about it. So in a way, you're right. MS probably had the better exclusives. But until they remove this stupid DRM/online crap (or if they somehow manage to charge $15-20 LESS than PS4 for games), Sony wins. The Sony "sharing games" video says it all, and that's more important than 1 or 2 exclusive games.
  • 100€ more... on both consoles, how about FUCK YOU!
  • @9 couldnt agree more, was going to comment on one the other day, every one of Lee's 'articles' regarding the XB1 are so negative. I dont expect all positive news stories as that wouldnt be helpful at all but EVERY single one of them is negative. OT: I expected it to be around £400 anyway and have it preordered, now for the long yet exciting 5 months
  • @26 They allow you to share your games library with 10 people and you can share XBL Gold with the people in your house with no additional fee to them or needing you to be logged in that sounds pretty good for the family/average gamer to me.
  • Xbox Live will end up being derelict. Personally, I don't play games anywhere enough these days to warrant getting all three consoles, I really want a WiiU and PS4 just seems like the better choice between the two for a "part time hardcore" gamer. I'll miss you, Chief.
  • @25 they made a device then connects to a TV that lets you watch television on your television, and has multiple processors so you can watch TV while doing other stuff... when they should have made an XBOX that and multiple processors that can play ALL previous XBOX and XBOX 360 games (Unless they intend to remake everything?) Basically, they should have made a GAMING system with backwards compatibility. Not a modified home entertainment system. If they were going to do what they're doing now, then they should've named it something else.
  • lies they'd be happier if the ps4 wasn't cheaper, or if iot were £1000 but the smae numbers of people bought it both the ps4 and the Xbone are screwing european and UK customers through exchange rates though i mean the Xbone at todays exchange rate should cost £320 so why couldn't they price it at £350
  • @24 The Playstation Eye is $59 and is optional. http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/11/sonys-playstation-4-eye-is-a-59-add-on-ps4-packs-a-500gb-hdd/ I don't think you understand how damaging MS is to the gaming industry and it's customers with its position on the used game market. PC gamers and console gamers always had major differences with the way games are played, liberties and benefits we enjoyed on consoles are slowing being taken away from us, for many, gamers are actually paying/supporting to take away these freedoms because they don't think with their heads.
  • @30 Really? I could have sworn I saw quite a few games revealed on Tuesday.
  • @24 PC gamers also get new games $10 cheaper at launch and a HELL OF A LOT CHEAPER through sales. We get Microsoft and their Games on Demand service, aka Buy 2 year old games at $50. People buy games on Steam and never even play them because they are so cheap. That has never happened on the Xbox...and likely never will. MS is extremely out of touch with sales/downloadable titles.
  • @37 Yeah its been pretty blatantly bad press. If you don't like the console release your opinions in an article in the opinion articles section of the site. Also proliferating the name Xbone which to me has an obviously negative connotation is ridiculous. I would prefer X1 or The One, but that's just me.
  • @40. Please answer me this question - Does the Xbox One play games?
  • For me the price wasn't the issue, i get it im paying £80 for Kinect, that is not my issue, i don't buy pre owned games and i don't borrow games or lend them out. I DO however rent most games from service like lovefilm/blockbuster which i can no longer do and i also sell the games that i do buy when im done with them. I also don't feel like paying £40 per year for gold membership for the next 7 years to get free games like Assassins Creed 2 and Halo 3. what a rip off, never though i would do it but im off to the dark side, just signed up on ps3trophies and pre ordered my ps4
  • XD pmsl.
  • @30 You do realize that any game on the PS4 that isn't first party also has the same restrictions as the Xbox One where it is up to the publisher to decide people seem to be forgetting that info came out yesterday.
  • @5 learn2math. The price doesn't favor anyone. The $499 pricetag in the US is listed without taxes. States add a 6-10% tax depending on state, unless you live in one of the two states without sales tax. Sales taxes are applied at the register, not in the price tag on the shelf. The price in Europe is listed WITH taxes, specifically the ~20% VAT tax already worked into the price. By law, they must list the price without tax in the US, and the price with tax in Europe. If you do the math, the prices are pretty much the same, only a couple dollars difference. If you don't like the price, petition your government to get rid of VAT.
  • Ill wait for the slim and a price drop. Just bought the R2 D2 360 last year. Not going to swap that with a Vhs looking thing..
  • @49 EA already said they WON'T implement any charges as they are happy with the way games work right now
  • kinect is a gimick. why microsoft does not understand is beyond me. who buys kinect games? 6 year olds that whine to mom about it and the parents breakdown and buy it? "oh but clubbers love dance central!", my ass! those people are either too drunk or too high to give a damn about kinect!
  • @47. That's exactly my problem with this. I could deal with a few of their annoying policies, like the forced use of the Kinect, but it certainly seems like Microsoft is going to do what they and their marketing partners want, consumer be damned. Eventually I realized I had to find reasons to like the Xbox One, and when it comes to that, I just can't justify putting money down for it, which is a shame, since I've enjoyed my 360.
  • @52 If EA won't impose any extra charges then it's pretty likely they also won't on the Xbox One because like they said it's up to the publisher and if they do it on 1 system and not the other it will cause one hell of a backlash.
  • @35 yeh I totally understand and agree from your perspective, but the reason I'm happy with it is because non of the issues people have with this effects me. Maybe if my Internet went down for a day or I'm on holiday, then it will bother me because I still don't fully understand the 24 hour check up thing. But everything else I'm fine with. @42 damaging the gaming industry? I don't think you understand that developers can now make money, if they choose to, in the used game market. And to be perfectly honest, if you're against that, it's you that's damaging the gaming industry. Developers have every right to charge a bit extra on used games and I don't mind that. Microsoft have already said this wont apply to their own games. The only likely developers that will do this will be ea and activision, because they have declined to comment on the situation. But if this means more money for the developers I'm all for it. Plus, I don't buy used games so again this does not effect me
  • No use of xbone this time around. Thank you lee Bradley. Ok folks back to bitching about how you are being forced to switch to PS4. 500 is not what I wanted to pay. I was hoping for 400, but I'm still going to get it day one at 500. No bitching needed. I'll grab a PS4 too.
  • @50 if you do the math we still get screwed heavily even when VAT is taken into account of course fanboys are always going to defend their chosen company out of some false loyalty
  • Microsoft are fooling themselves completely. Not only is the PS4 technically more powerful, both in RAM and GPU, it's $100 / £80 cheaper and doesn't come with a peripheral that's mandatory and has the capabality to greatly intrude on your privacy. Also, won't restrict what you can and can't do with the games that you spend your hard earned moolah on and won't require you to connect the internet to make sure that you're being good. What Microsoft are trying to do is nothing short of being totalitarian.
  • @49 I see that, for me its just all of the negative things piling up that did it for me. I can deal with a few issues, but I shouldn't have to convince myself that there's more good than bad.
  • PR Jargon blah blah blah blah *we couldnt be more happier that we are rinsing our customers* blah blah blah. The price would be a lot easier to stomach if The US had to pay the same amount, but they only pay £320-ish. Europe gets fucked in the arse once again.
  • @9 @37 The stories I have written about the Xbox One are the same stories that pretty much every outlet in the world has covered. I'm not anti-Xbox One. And, as a side note, when I wrote "That's it, we're beaten" the other day, I didn't mean Xbox fans, I meant the staff who had worked 20 hours straight delivering all the news. Just writing that here because there was some confusion at the time. Seriously, I'm not anti-Xbox One. I've put in a pre-order to get the Day One edition (despite that silly achievement). The DRM stuff they've got is shitty, but the games look ACE! Peace.
  • @LeeBradley. Props for clarification.
  • I don't think the price for the system all that outrageous and I probably would have ended up buying one eventually. It's all the other things they are doing/changing that are keeping me from getting one.
  • Just like no one pays $599 for an iPhone, no one is going to pay $499 for X1 Subsidies!
  • If they say it enough, maybe everyone else will believe it too.
  • The fact these prices are cheaper is enlightening and worrying at the same time; how can a console boasting such incredible capabilities be so inexpensive with what we are going to receive? I was expecting the prices to reach the $600+ mark. But still, with the debates reaching volcanic levels over the online-only issue, and with Microsoft responding to the public complaints with comments like "We have a product for those who can't get online; it's Xbox 360", I do feel a sense of dread over what this could bring. It's almost as though we are being forced to either accept the next generation(and its' Pro's and Con's), or be left in the wake biding our time until we can. Like I did with 360, I will bide my time until everything comes to light. With the economy in the states not being in the best of shape, money isn't something to waste on uncertainty.
  • @46 Yes, $h!tty, uncomplete games, where Microsoft can rape their customers with Micro-transactions and give them achievements for watching television. I'd be okay with the raping if there was some backwards compatibility, if you know what I mean. You work for Microsoft?
  • @34 You're correct, but there is more information. At launch, the Xbox 360 was available in two variations: Xbox 360 Pro variation (20 GB HDD) and was $399, and the Xbox 360 Core variation (I think it came with a memory unit) which was $299. The Elite variation (120 GB HDD) came out about a year later on at $479. Overall the One (I prefer XbOne because I think it's funny, not insulting but to each their own) isn't really that much different in price if you were to cut out the unneeded Kinect. Why they're making it such a forced requirement, when it should be purely optional, is beyond me. I'll just have to invest in black electric tap and some sound proof putty for when I don't want the Kinect to do anything when I'm not using it for a handful of games. I don't mind Kinect, it's a semi-fun gimmick at times, but it shouldn't be forced on the customer. I've always waited to get a console to price drop to around $199-$299 before getting it simply due to the fact that I only make so much money a year and I'm not some spoiled, entitled child that gets everything bought for me if I whine enough. The only thing that will completely prevent me from ever getting a One is the Big Brother online check-in. They have plenty of time before I even would consider getting one to change this highly detrimental-to-sales and unpopular decision for the One. I may have a constant internet connection myself, but 1). I do visit places that don't have internet for longer than 24 hours and 2). I empathize with the HUGE amount of Xbox fans that have shitty internet connections and/or have to travel a lot. Why should these people not get to play their One's when they're on the road? Why only sell a console to the top %15 (my guess) of your customer base? It seems that someone(s) that makes major decisions at Microsoft needs to be shown the door with a firmly placed boot to the ass.
  • I just preordered PS4 today im all set with Microsoft and all there awful policies. I'm very disappointed in you what a let down. I'm all set with Kinect always being on and listen fuck that. Also all the arrogance Microsoft has shown is its major downfall. After 10years of xbox sucks to leave but they forced me all my achievements are flushed down the toilet and wasted :/
  • Can someone help me out here. If you read through the web, you can see a host of gamers jumping ship and claiming the PS4 is the new way forward for them. I for one am not giving up 6 years of gamerscore that easily, but I do need convincing on one issue. Call me mad, but I can log online when im due to play and Xbox can watch me chill out on my sofa if they really want to, but as an older gamer who has always bought the latest/best console, I just wanna know if its worth paying out £525 to be able to have COD Ghosts and BF4 on the X1 as opposed to just paying £80 and having them both on the 360. Am I gonna notice a major difference between the game on the XB1 than the 360?? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I dont wanna get involved in PS4 vs X1, I just wanna make sure either console wows me with a step forward in all I wanna do - play games.
  • PS4
  • @68. So in summary, the Xbox One plays games. Therefore, if you want to play games and ignore all the other features you can.
  • The internet is just full of bitchy whiners.
  • Next Gen games cost £55 If I wanted the Xbone with a couple of games I am looking at over £500, that's just crazy money. I wonder if the price would be lower if they didn't insist in sticking Kinect in every box.
  • You cannot turn off Kinect people Microsoft stated it's "always listening" fuck that shit
  • Xbox one is for people who don't care about there privacy, and who don't like to borrow or rent games, and for people who don't like playing games offline at all.
  • Just because of that statement I might just not buy one now and I should get rid of my 360 too stop giving them my money but ive spent a lot on my 360 and I have a lot of content.
  • What shocks me the most is that majority of people insulting Microsoft have either new accounts here or haven't connected their tags to site. thus proving that majority if not all are here to complain and cry instead of giving valued opinion. Except that price is not a huge issue, I picked PS3 when it was 200$ expensive then Xbox yet I still hated it and made Xbox my main this gen, so price is not a problem, I loved it that MS is making Kinect mandatory this time around cause if everyone has it out of the box then creators will give more support to it and in the end we might see some good Kinect stuff. The major concern I have with XBO is that Online connectivity DRM, Used game sales is something not good but I don't mind it a lot cause online passes are a common practice now + a lot of developers will not use this feature cause it's not included in Sony Design. Only in X1 didn't had 24 hour online drm, it would have been my choice. I am afraid I might Switch, Sony looks hell better
  • Tryin to sell me enforced kinect i don't want and charge £80 more than a region free, no preowned restrictions ps4. Fuck yourself Ms greed and arrogance will only get you so far. But it wont be with my money.
  • So he thinks the price is right because the games look incredible ? Are they giving you said games with the console or am I missing something here ? I'll gladly pay the right price for the games but they can't justify a higher price by saying the games are great.
  • I am happy with the price, pre ordered 2 consoles myself. Their game line up looks amazing and I can't wait to start playing some next gen goodness.
  • As the consumer, and purchaser of a xbox, xbox360, and 360 slim....... I so no thanks, NO FUCKING THANKS! I am not happy with the One, not happy at all, and I do not want to buy one. Microsoft screwed up the One, for a few reasons. I don't want one, I have enough extra gamer money for a few, but I will never fork it over to MS, because the Xbox One is lame. If the One won't play games w.o an internet connection, I will not buy it. I also won't be forced to use/buy Kinect. Lol @ Microsoft's arrogance
  • @80 The reason(s) I haven't done any of that is because xbox360achievements logs me off every 5 minutes. In fact when I'm done typing this comment, I will copy it, attempt to post it, have to "sign out" just to sign back in and then post it while I have a 2-3 minute window to do so. I enjoy this website for it's achievement guides and a few of it's news articles, but I mainly stick with trueachievements due to a much more indepth website that doesn't log me off every few minutes. Also I started an account on here about 2-3 months ago so I'm not that new. Your speculation that new, unconnected accounts are mostly if not all just here to "complain and cry" is I believe is false. I don't think these new accounts prove that at all. Maybe look at it this way: More people are genuinely disappointed in Microsoft to the point of doing the basic sign up requirements just to voice there disappointment. I'm not intending to be rude with my response, I just disagree with your point. The rest of your post I agree with almost completely and I think you make valid points there. Again, I'm not trying to be rude or a dick, just voicing my disagreement on one of your points.
  • Its not a value if you add features nobody cares about. Cloud ANYTHING is a joke, and nobody fucking likes kinect.
  • they really can do it ... they can really make it even more worse but what can i do, i mean HALO is coming in 2014 - i can definitly life without the xbox one, but not without HALO
  • @9, Lee Bradley is a chump that favors the PS4. He is not a serious writer, and he will never get further in his journalist career that this site right here. I hate listening to him go on, and on, about MS policies, and him placing his own opinion into his writing.
  • Basically, I want a games console, not a media device in which resources are used for something I don't want. I neither need nor want to to do anything else. Couple that with company who appear to be gamer focused, a consensus with my mates to go with it this gen AND it being a cheaper launch price... It's a no brainer for me. Also, I feel the article is simply including unbiased information on the Xbone's competitor.
  • They don't seem to realise that just because THEY are happy with the price doesn't mean people will pay it. Already lost 10+ of my group to the PS4. Cya later, MS
  • So people everywhere have been saying they've fucked up and they have the balls to make it $100 more expensive than the PS4, Im still getting the Xbox One but god, microsoft do something right!
  • I don't mean disrespectful to anyone choosing the XboxOne by the way, so don't start with the hate. I just find MS's choices so bizarre. They catered to family's and having it as a general entertainment system, but those people aren't at E3 and those people are higher unlikely to pay £400+ for a console just for that. It's the gamers that MS should've aimed this console at but PS4 basically slapped them at E3. I saw above someone said it was the other way around but u obviously weren't watching. Whichever console u all buy, I hope you enjoy it :)
  • I've been an avid fan of XBOX since the original. That being said, I am truly unhappy with MS and their new policies for the XBOX One. I went into E3 hoping MS would change some of their policies knowing the gaming community was displeased with them. I wanted MS to sway me into buying an XBOX One, and honestly with Titan Fall and the new Halo they almost had me. Then after watching Sony's conference I went the next morning and put half down on my reserve for a PS4. My wife has branded me a traitor for doing so, but she understands why I did it. Change your ways MS, and I will pick up an XBOX One down the road, until then I will stick to my trusty old buddy, the 360, and my shiny new PS4. The only thing I am going to miss is my beloved Halo.
  • EVERYONE needs to cancel pre orders or wait two or so weeks before buying one.... after a shitty launch maybe they'll realize who's in the wrong.. 499 for a console that you can't do shit with if you've moved and are waiting for internet. Can't do shit if the internet service provider goes down you should just be able to play without it online plus where I live my signal drops ALL the time
  • Maybe it IS good value for money. But when your main competitor is offer a similar machine for about 20% less, you've got a big problem.
  • I couldn't be happier that thankfully Sony exists to take me back again. Otherwise, while I will always keep my awesome 360 either way, I would not be owning next-gen console. Anyone who is upset with MS and now anti-Xbox going into the future, the only way they will REALLY notice outside of the current humiliation they are going through, is by buying a PS4. Instead of MS telling gamers sarcastic patronizing comments like "....it's called Xbox 360", they should be telling people not to stay in the past for next gen, they should be saying "It's called the PlayStation 4!". That is the honest and only answer for the future next-gen gamer that doesn't like Microsoft's offerings. If ever there was a console war, this season will definitely be the REAL DEAL!
  • @96 Sony is doing the same shit policy wise (excluding the always on) if you want to go with a company that actually cares about you it's Nintendo
  • Not to mention, the fact that hating on Microsoft seems to be the "cool thing" right now, has got to be hitting them HARD! They'd be in a better spot now if they had been a no-show at E3.
  • @97 I don't get the impression you read anything about Nintendo. They're pushing for complete digital distribution of all of their games (especially with their handhelds). Fire Emblem: Awakening was pushed so hard for it's digital form that Nintendo intentionally didn't send many physical copies out. Within days of it coming out, hundreds of physical copies were on ebay and amazon going for $80-$150. Nintendo reps at Gamestop even mentioned that to customers that there were limited copies in favor of digital download whilst trying to convince people that it's the best way to game. Now how is limiting your customer base to ones who only can get online good business? If that was the current business standard then this point would be invalid, but it's not. Most Nintendo customers don't ever get online with there systems. Hell the only time I could play an online game of LOZ: Phantom Hourglass was with tweenage Japanese kids (and they kicked the ever-loving shit out of me). I never once got connected to an American gamer. Simply put, Nintendo fans generally don't care about online features. Nintendo is failing for a reason. Microsoft seems to be following with a much larger sinking ship. I hope not, I like video games and I don't want to see any of this happen.
  • @85 Thanks for a smart & understanding reply. Ok I get you may be I am wrong with my assumption but every second thread I see people with new accounts bashing X360. Good discussion is always welcome, everyone has a right to have an opinion but he should be smart enough in presenting it. I never had any troubles here and I too am an active user at TA :)
  • Xbox One VS PS4 Since many people do not take the time to research the Xbox One and just believe rumors, I want to educate you guys. -Can still share games with 1 person if that person is on your friends list -Kinect WON'T spy on you (Microsoft expressed that numerous times) and can turn off -You CAN play offline -Don't need to always be on every 24 hours, just need internet connection and judging by all of us, we have it -PS4 will also have a used game fee up to 3rd party developers *Plethora of better exclusives on Xbox and more features* -Has built in capture card and can stream straight to Twitch -Costs more because it comes with Kinect and is a multi-media machine in addition to gaming -PS4 now has to pay for live, same price as Xbox
  • I think i might take up a bit of my time to clear up some of these arguments regarding the XB1 and hopefully have people realise how ridiculous some of these arguments are (And this is speaking from a logical view as opposed to being a fanboy)... XB1 being a glorified TiVo - Now if I'm not mistaken...Doesn't the 360 have the ability to play TV??? Has it stopped people playing the games on it??? No it hasn't...It's the same deal with PC...It can play TV yet people still use it for gaming...You are not being forced to use the TV feature for it and until you are...you have no argument for it...Besides...I'd rather have the one electrical device plugged in as opposed as having a console and TV box plugged in at the same time...It saves on electrical costs... XB1 having to be online at least once every 24 hours - Question...how many of you are on your own internet connection reading my post??? It should be the majority of you if I'm right...So what is having XB1 connected to the internet once every 24 hours??? Now don't get me wrong...I understand that people don't have an internet connection...That's just an unfortunate situation which will prevent them from playing XB1 and I feel for you...That's a legitimate argument...I also understand there are signal dropouts...I get dropouts all the time too...However I'll use that time to do something else like watch a movie or whatever...besides I'll assume that most of you will still have your 360 anyway due to lack of backwards compatibility...What's stopping you from playing that??? Also with going on holiday, going to work etc...I'm pretty certain that your XB1 won't become a brick if you miss out on a few days...You should be able to connect back up and get the latest update... The Kinect - Now I'll be first to say I fucking hate the Kinect as much as the next guy...But to say that it's there to spy on you is some complete conspiracy theorist bullshit...If this is such an issue...Turn your Kinect to a wall or simply turn it off...Yeah...you do have that option...Mine will be turned off the moment I get it...As far as privacy goes...Wasn't the PSN privacy breached not long ago??? (Yeah I'm beating that dead horse again...) M$ being money hungry bastards - I can't believe that people even believe that crap...They are a business...Or course they want to make money just like Sony and Nintendo and every other business in the fucking world does...It's no longer the 1980's where people are making games for fun... I'm not saying that XB1 is perfect (Used game policy, DRM, Lack of backwards compatibility, Achievements for watching TV etc...) and I'm not trying to convert anyone...I'm just giving you facts so that people can see things outside the box...I think the price for it is very fair for what you get and I believe that XB1 gets the better exclusives...So I will happily say that I'm pre-ordering an Xbox One...And I'm definitely open to any criticism to my post...
  • I really hope people wise up and don't buy this console day 1. Tired of these money grabbing crooks.
  • 429£ is $672.54 in US dollars. WHO THE FUCK DOES THAT MAKE SENSE TO?!?!?
  • I remember when Sony said PS3 was perfect for $600. So okay Microsoft, pretend that you have perfect value at $500 when you also have to pay for Gold and can't even use the console without internet or a Kinect that nobody wants.
  • With all of the things screaming at me to switch to PS4, I just can't. I've always preferred Xbox over PS4, and I really feel that a lot of the 'FUCK M$ IM GOIN TO PS' people probably won't even make the switch. They'll be up there with the rest of us, getting an XB1. Because really, if you loathed the XB1 and really plan on getting a PS4, why stay here and hate on it like you're doing now?
  • Ok worth the money but why make it cost more in uk
  • If you have to wait a few days for internet connection you can always just show some lovin to your ex-gen console. Jesus, its like you people can't live without a game for a week or so.
  • Phill Harrison says enough, he ran the PS3 into the ground and is now doing the same for the Xbox One
  • ms really are greedy B*******, charging way too much, then having the arrogance to say we are happy with this price, then this bull**** with telling people to buy a 360 if they have no internet. Why and how is anyone still supporting MS after all this? Open your eyes!
  • Arrogant c**t.
  • In Australia it's $100 more.At least they should include a free copy of Ryse or Dead Rising 3.
  • The DRM issues and the online requirement are irrelevant to me but that $500 price is pushing me to Sony, at least at launch. Sony looks to have the better early exclusives as well. I want Dead Rising 3 and probably Killer Instinct but Ryse didn't really impress me. Sony has Killzone and Second Son which are both must-haves to me. I definitely will get a One at some point but almost certainly not at launch.
  • Wow what are these guys smoking, and useless off line , what a joke...
  • @3i wish they would too, but since they insist you use the kinect and the xbone will not even turn on if the kinect is not connected i do not see this happening. the kinect is the main reason for me not getting one.
  • As many have already said, my problem is not the simple £429 UK price tag, it's the difference between that price and the US price for the console. I am finding it hard to pay full price for it in the UK when I know i'm getting fucked. And I won't 'help it in'.
  • I am pretty sure this is a XBOX website, if you are hating on it and want to jump ship, just fucking do it already, we don't need your fan boy attitude on here
  • i hate to say it but i think that the ps4 is gonna sell a lot more and xbox is gonna be left in the dust. i really hate to see this because i love xbox but their completely turning the tables. before i used to think that the playstation was more of an entertainment system and xbox as a gaming system, now it's the other way around. way to screw yourself over microsoft.
  • also i'd like to say that i don't want to back to playstation but i think i might have to.
  • My iPhone was more expensive.....the price is fine. In fact maybe it will drive out some of the annoying little kids, and that is a BIG +
  • @113 Classic Australia, we always get the worse end of exchange rates
  • £429 is like $660-670. The UK is being screwed over again?
  • Not only the UK, mainland Europe, too. €499 is also like $660, whereas $499 would be approximately €375. And if you add 10% tax to the US price, as #50 said, it would be $549, which is about €412 and not €499. Also: $549 ~ £350
  • I would probably buy a Xbox One if it wasn't for them shipping Kinect with every Xbox, I wonder how much cheaper it would be if it wasn't included? . Not everyone wants to have Kinect I.e having a small room is just impossible, also not everyone wants a "Entertainment System" they buy a "Games console" you know, to play 'Games' What will you be doing on your Xbox One? Watching TV,TV,TV and errr TV I would buy if I wasn't for Kinect being included, listen to the community Microsoft!
  • @123 @124 - no. The US price doesn't include ANY tax. In the UK, it would be $499 (£318) + VAT @ 20% (£382) + Import Tax. It's not inflated by much at all TBH. The amount the PS4 is inflated is about the same once you take those taxes into account. Also, it's worth pointing out that the Sony position on used games is EXACTLY the same as Microsoft. Microsoft aren't blocking trading on 1st party games, and they aren't blocking trading on 3rd party games. They are allowing 3rd parties to block games on XB1 if they choose. Jack Tretton (Sony CEO) confirmed live on GameTrailers that Sony won't block trading on 1st party games, and they aren't blocking trading on 3rd party games, but that they WILL allow 3rd parties to block games on PS4 if they choose. If you want to complain about the online component then fine, but the used games policy is the same on both systems.
  • To the people that think the price will make the annoying kids leave i don't even know why you would believe that. Those little annoying kids have no knowledge of anything. They will stay in Xbox community and will annoy you more frequently because more and more mature games will be leaving to ps4. You would have to be high as a kite to believe otherwise. The price has zero impact on what spoiled little brats get because they are spoiled and there parents will get it for them pretty simple. OT: 500 isn't a lot by any means but what it comes down to is it worth the price. A lot of people don't like their policy and don't wanna pay 100 for a kinect that will never be used. On the other hand a lot of casuals will be buying the Xbox for the entertainment factors. Lastly there will be xbox followers who would pay more then 500 because they love Microsoft and Xbox so much they couldn't imagine going to any other system. I would have to agree with Microsoft they should be happy because they know they have their core audience targeted and satisfied. They couldn't be happier to waste 500 on xbox1.
  • Microsoft are happy that it's more expensive as they know that a $100 price drop won't encourage any more buyers, and even if it was more expensive, all the same MS fanboys will still buy it, even though it has less power and more restrictions.
  • Yes the one IS good value, it just happens that the PS4 is much better.
  • The only thing that truly pisses me off is this used games thing. Even though I always buy new, because I understand the importance of devs profiting from their games, lest good studios go out of business, but I trade games with friends or trade them in to make new purchases easier on the wallet. Games have gone up in price and I buy alot of games, so it adds up. I'm just surprised Microsoft is putting themselves out there for devs like that, over customers. I think they assumed playstation would too, but Sony saw an opportunity and didn't. To continue that course of action still would be foolish on microsofts part, with nothing to gain. The rest of the stuff I can forgive, and I'll probabably get both consoles at launch as they're both great tech value. If they keep this used games thing up, I'll only get games I plan to keep, on the Xbox (or multiplayers with longevity like BF4).
  • Xbox one should came out in the begin of fall like Sept. before all new games come out. And any one who has an Xbox live acc more the 5 years should get $100 dollars gift card or 2 years of free Xbox live who is down with me !! Then Xbox is going be on top again and there will be less PPL B.S about PS4 better the xbox one
  • @101 I agree with there being an overwhelming amount of people pissed both new and regular. It gets old after awhile but for core gamers of all types, the general census is that they're not happy. I also feel people should at least try and be articulated with their comments also. We all got to remember core gamers, no matter how many, are still a minority when it comes to the target customer base and success of a console. Parents with tween-teenage kids are the target and will ultimately decide the success of the consoles. Personally I feel that Microsoft is limiting their customer base a bit much but I don't think it won't sell. As is friends of mine who work at GameStop have been getting pre-orders for Xbox One about 4-1 over PS4. Amazon was sold out on pre-orders for about 2 days before putting more pre-orders up for One again. Bitch as we may and loud as we may be, core gamers are just a fraction of sales. I'm just holding out for some changes I think Microsoft may do when they want more money.
  • price somewhat threw me at first, in comparison to the PS4, however over time i feel that the price will drop slightly, and be more affordable. the used games policy does annoy me, but will have to live with it depending if i get a new xbox
  • @74 It's true they HAVE games, and you CAN get the Xbox ONE for just that reason... but why would I waste my money on all the unnecessary crap for that price, when I can get a PS4? Microsoft has somehow, lost in translation, their consumer-base and have moved on more toward family entertainment. I have a family and I don't want a Kinect watching us at home while we're waffling, or watching the tube. And who seriously watches the tube while gaming? Did you only read my comment? and not the other people that replied to you? or even the 50%+ of people on these other posts irritated with Microsoft's Xbox ONE? If you don't like it, belt-up. Don't go directing your comments at just one person. Right now, it's PS4 that's sounding bloody ACE. If you want to support Microsoft, go right ahead--They can pat your back, give you a cracker; and that's probably all you'll get from them--maybe you're one of the lads clapping in the background with the rest of the Microsoft employees and interns during the reveal, while all the gamers and media in the crowd were face-palming. I was just stating that Microsoft has lost me as a consumer, once Xbox 360 becomes obsolete. I have no intention of ever purchasing an Xbox ONE unit. Maybe lots of people will (Including you), but I bloody won't.
  • I get the £80 difference between the XOne and the PS4 cause of the Kinect, and yes, the conversion rates are out... Should be more like £329 if you convert from USD to GBP using today's conversion rates... I get that there is Import Tax etc to add onto that, but even after that, it's still out... Even so, when you look at it compared to the launch price of the Xbox 360, it's not that big-of-a price difference despite all of the new features/ tech/ hardware we're getting! Maybe we should stop concentrating entirely on the price tag presented to us for the Next Gen for a minute and compare it with the Current Gen of Xbox!... I'd say its a pretty good deal tbh.
