My thoughts exactly #4, and assuming Cliffy B's opinion is attributed some great reverence in this documentary, I highly doubt it's worth funding anyway. Besides, it'll probably just be another exercise in massaging the already enormous ego of that lying prick.

The comments here are a clear indication that video gamers have no interest whatsoever in their culture, mainly because most of them are 16 year old, egocentric assholes (any 30yo CoD players out there? No? Thought so...).
And what has fucking Bleszinski got to do with anything? He did not write or produce this documentary, he was invited to speak about video games and this industry, since he spent most of his adult life there! No matter what you think of him, he has made his experiences in this line of work, and I for one would like to hear them!
Besides, there were other famous people in that trailer, too!
Jesus, guys, grow up!
(I know that's an unpopular opinion, so let the massacre of downvoting begin)

Companies? What companies?
The bald-headed dude at the end of the video, a life-long gamer, wanted to make a doc about the inception and history of vg, and their current status.
For that, he talked to designers and companies, but that doesn't mean they paid him (guess he had to pay some of them even)

@#7 The point is that there is no reason for this movie to end up on Kickstarter asking for money from the public when people like Cliffy B are in it. He alone could fund the movie. I'm sure he was compensated very nicely for his time. Why should we fund a movie just because it is based on video games? Would be fund a movie starring any other Hollywood big name such as Jolie or McKellan? No.

#7 It is NOT a MOVIE BASED on video games".
It is a DOCUMENTATION about video-games and their history - HUGE difference!
It is made by a fan, for the fans, and surely would be very interesting (at least for people like me, who consider (some) games "art", and not just consumer products).
But like it seems now, it won't happen. It's a pity most gamers have absolutely no interest in their culture, they have no idea where it came from, who the people behind it are, or where we're headed...
They don't grasp that this is more then just "Capture-the-flag" or "Team Deathmatch"
Ah well, whatever...

@7 no its not that gamers aren't interested in their culture, or that most of the people here are 16 (I'm 21 and in my experiences achievement hunting, most here are roughly the same age). Its that people really dislike Cliff B because he is an obnoxious prick who thinks he knows everything about the industry just because he made epic and GOW and is constantly shooting his mouth off about the industry in comments that come across as idiotic and poorly thought out, despite currently being outside the industry (by way of not having a job).
The fact that he is one of the few people mentioned is what upsets people because no one wants to listen to more of his opinions AND that many don't think something like this deserves a kickstarter. They shouldn't have compiled the footage if they couldn't afford to do post production and it reeks of a company taking advantage of the kickstarter system to save money.

This is quite interesting. At first I thought it was about games in general similar to the whole 'wreck it raplh' idea but this is a good thing since it help explain where gaming is going, to let the average person know that games don't turn all people into gun nuts.
People should really looked into it more since it seem's like the guy has asked company's, heck even Will Wheaton for help. Also compiling a short video is not the same compiling sized film.

Who about they get the funding before shooting the movie. And why is no one talking to the gamng community itself. Most of the gamng industries wouldn't be where they are today without the gamers buying the outragisly priced games. (60 dollars for a game most people will beat in 2-3 days and forget about.

@7 for what it's worth, I agree with you. The argument cliffy B can finance it is moot. Film financiers work on the basis they'll get a return on their investment. Perhaps he feels whilst the project is great and he's keen to support it with his thoughts to camera, he's not confident of its ability to make money. The fact kickstarter is involved kind of supports that.
Cliffy B is not a philanthropist. Just because he has money, it doesn't automatically follow on he should give it away. Out yourself in the same situation. You have money and you have the potential to give a sizeable chunk to a project in your heart of hearts you feel will lose money. Would you do it? Honestly?

I think the problem is that a lot of people are just burnt out with Kickstarter projects and people with more money than us asking us for money, especially for something like this.
We already know a lot about Cliffy B and Randy Pitchfords' thought's on gaming anyway, and alot of people just don't care about that. Also, do we really need to know what Wil Wheaton and Chris Hardwick think about games? Their views on video games are no more relevant than the average Joe on the street.
And finally, they already have the footage filmed. Why exactly do they need 60 thousand at this point?

Well said #15.
@Miikesmama : Really? "Wanting to know where we came from?" Are you serious?
We're not some ancient warrior race, nor some cyberpunk evangelists, nor anything else other than guys (and girls) who plays video games. Just your bog-standard, no frills, mortal, flesh and blood, plain, ordinary human beings.
And if you really want to know about the history of gaming, there are plenty of articles out there on the Magnavox, Pong Consoles, the 1983 crash etc.
Cliffy B's "influence" in gaming history should barely register as an event due to the immensely detrimental effect he has had. Furthermore, Gears has been around since when '06? '05 even? And THAT guy is going to help tell US about gaming history? Most of us are in our mid 20s to mid 30s here, most of the real gaming core have been gaming for over 2 decades, most of us think Cliffy B is an ego-centric, garbage spouting prick, and whilst we haven't had the opportunity to change the industry yet, I guarantee most of us know shitloads more about gaming than some loud-mouthed poster boy for capitalist gaming.
So son, don't you lecture us on what's what, because we know already. I don't see or hear these people talking about Gunpei Yokoi's legacy, I don't see or hear these people talking about Keiji Inafune, Masahiro Sakurai or hell, even Julian "Jaz" Rignall.
No, this "documentary" covers recent "history" and allows contemporary "success story" designers to massage their egos whilst experiencing a nostalgia trip down memory lane. We've seen this crap before, it's old, dull and unimaginative trash, and I'm glad 90% are turning their backs on this PR crap.
The fact they're tapping us for cash again just adds further insult to injury. Cliffy B really needs to learn to STFU before someone has a brain fart and actually listens to him. There would be no survivors.

So the director / author of this project wants us to give him money to do post-production work and get paid for doing it instead of working a couple hours a night, on his computer, putting everything together, on his own time?? Really?? He wants to get paid for being ambitious and doing something HE wanted to do as a project?? WOW!!
I am going out to mow my yard. Should I go to Kickstarter and ask for money for gas and a nice new fancy lawnmower??

On a side note, doesn't look like he had a problem with the post-production of a 4-1/2 minute trailer for the movie.
So let me get this straight... gone are the days of going to the bank for a self funded exercise that he is doing? No need for him to ask the bank how much they will lend him? They say "Jeremy, will will loan you $20,000 for your project." So then he does what he has to do and distributes the movie and sells them for $$ a copy. All his sales up to the amount the bank loaned him goes to the bank to pay off his debt to them, then the rest, the profit, goes into his pocket.
So if the movie tanks and is complete shit, he won't be out financially for anything. Just the people that funded his Kickstarter project??
Welcome to America!!

Dunno, I love video games more then movies. Don't care about this stuff. I cannot wait Resi Evil: Revelations then GRID 2 then Remember Me then The Last of Us then LEGO Marvel Super Heroes then Pikmin 3 then more and more games on way. Lol
I do look forward new Superman movie in June. I don't watch movies lots just sometime every few weeks on Sky Box Office and few times go cinema every years. When I were kid I did watch movies in Cinema very often many times. :)
Well games alway better then movies because you play, watch story, follow story, read subtitles, play with friends over online and many more. So movies is fun to watch sometime though it just watch movie and follow story in it. So I more into games then movies of course. That why. Full stop...... :D

If they had a budget to run on, then they should have know how ambitious they can be with their ideas. Running out of money and then saying 'Just start a kickstarter, some random guy will pay it!' is so stupid, imo.

You only pay money on kickstarter if you want to, get over it.
