Microsoft has confirmed that the next Xbox will be revealed in May as rumoured earlier in the month, heralding "the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment."

A special press event will be held on Microsoft's Xbox campus, which you'll be able to watch via a live global stream that will be available to view on Xbox.com, Xbox LIVE and on Spike TV for people in US and Canada.

At E3 2013 just under three weeks after the reveal, Microsoft will then be showcasing its full games line-up for the next Xbox.

The next Xbox reveal entitled 'A New Generation Revealed' will take place on Tuesday, May 21st at 1pm ET/10am PT/6pm GMT.

  • Can't wait. C'mon backwards capability!
  • If it has to be online all the time, forget it.
  • Ridiculous price, no backwards compatability, extreme focus on entertainment apps, few exclusives, and always on internet requierement. did i miss anything?
  • Heck yes. Can't wait!
  • And we'll finally get a real name so people stop calling it the 720
  • "The next Xbox reveal entitled 'A New Generation Revealed' will take place on Tuesday, May 21st at 1pm ET/10am PT/5pm GMT." Wait, they have to name their press releases? WTF?
  • Finally some real news other than bloody rumours
  • if they don't allow pre-owned games they can do one!
  • If they ban used games on this system, I say we riot.
  • Always trust Paul Thurrott....
  • And I still think that they aren't going to lock you out of local play if you have an online connection. I imagine the "always on" requirement will be for specific features that are obviously tied to connectivity, no different than your cable box.
  • When it said "The rumours are true", i pooped my pants. Thought it was going to confirm that its going to be online only.
  • I'm praying that all these rumors we've heard are false. Please have backwards compatibility, no always online, no always kinect, etc.
  • inb4 300 comments, lol. I was going to say the same as #1
  • If any of the previous rumors are true (no backwards compatibility, always-on connection, etc.) I'm not going to buy it. Even if it doesn't require an always-on connection, I'm still not going to buy it right away. I tend to give a console a year or two to blow some steam before I commit to a purchase.
  • If you *don't* have an online connection. Sorry.
  • All I care about are the games, the only thing they won't talk about are the games.
  • What a coincidence. May 21st is the day that i will officially confirm i am switching from xbox to playstation. Unless they surprise me and announce that i can still buy used games.
  • Backwards compatibility, no always online requirement, and a good selection of EXCLUSIVE games, please. Also, lessen the focus on entertainment crap. People buy an XBox for games - keep that in mind.
  • Why not just wait till E3?
  • Please be £100/
  • $20 says MS doesn't address the "always online" or other rumors during the reveal and still leaves us wondering.
  • XBOX ANGR, an E away from what people will feel if the rumours prove true. I for one am very excited to see what Microsoft have in store for the next generation. Here's hoping to an equally impressive and successful console! :D
  • Let's check the things that will make me buy a PS4 instead a new xbox... - Always online - Little list of exclusives - A lot of kinect crap - A lot of app crap - A lot of movies, series e music crap - A little space for gaming and gamers Yeah... the new xbox will be a real blockbuster!
  • All I can hope for is backwards compatibility (in some way) and the always-on rumour being false.
  • Get rid of the crazy amount of apps and the always online bullshit and I'm on board. People who bitch about no backwards compatibility...news flash! Don't sell you're 360...
  • I would have to agree with #11, I am thinking part will be online only - but the system won't lock you out if you don't have connection. Fingers crossed anyways. I'm looking forward to a nice bit of INFO not Rumors and I think it will turn out wonderfully!!
  • Lets see what they come up with! ;0)....I know what I hope is true and I know what I hope is a load of bull....maybe deal breaking Bull....until 21st May it is then.....
  • In the middle of a Tuesday when everyone is at work?
  • No used games, and always online... Those rumors are true, then goodbye Xbox. I bid you farewell.
  • XBOX 720!!!
  • 1pm et would be 6pm gmt, not 5
  • I hope our gamertags will be saved. And the option to put all game saves from the 360 to the new one.
  • guarantee there will be no backwards compatibility, unfortunately
  • Sensing it will move ever forward as an entertainment system and less and less about gamers gaming :(.
  • Regardless of how things turn out, I'm looking forward to seeing it. Anything to stop, or at the very least dampen, the annoying rumours and speculation currently swirling around the net can only be a good thing.
  • Can't wait to see the £400 set top box rather than a £400 GAME CONSOLE.
  • I'm so sick of all the media on the 360 that I don't have high hopes for this. As a gamer I want a console to play games, not to watch TV, or movies, or to listen music. Microsoft forgot what gamers really want and we don't need to wait until May 21st to know that they will try to fill our minds with more Netflix, Xbox Music and Kinect crap.
  • @3 yes, you missed that everything you said is rumor and speculation
  • @31 #getowned? The fuck? No need for hashtags bro it aint twitter.
  • @35 They have to have BC with XBLA and games on-demand. MS patents indicate this is the case. X360A doesn't report on this because NeoGAF has pushed it under the rug so no on notices. That's the problem when all your news comes from a forum which is heavily biased toward Sony. Anyway, MS will no doubt be more controlling with their online and such than Sony. They let all these rumors fly so that when they announce the bad, it's a relief instead of a nasty surprise and you can focus on all the good you didn't expect in other ways.
  • It would indeed suck if the always online rumours are true but I doubt it will make me quit playing Xbox. ill quit gaming altogether before I ever change to PlayStation 4..
  • Xbox 720, at last we meet... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HMomojPgW0 xx
  • The day all rumors will be defeated.
  • I am ready for a new generation of gaming and entertainment. Frankly, going more of the entertainment route makes sense as I witness on a nightly basis more and more of my friends watching either Netflix, Hulu, UFC, Amazon, or any one of the many video apps they have now for the 360. Microsoft has billions of dollars and they're in this business to make more billions and there's nothing wrong with that. However, the consumers, you and me, will answer with our wallets whether the direction that MS is going for the foreseeable future is worth it. That's the only way to tell them "Yes" or "No" in regards to appealing to the masses of potential customers.
  • Reveal on my birthday!!! Sweet lol Let hope reveal about show next Xbox that need for more numbers of exclusive titles not load Kinect games. We all want more exclusive titles and better D-Pad for next Xbox controller. Look forward for full information for reveal on my birthday dated. :)
  • If this was going to be a games console I would be really excited. Unfortunately it is just an entertainment hub for all the apps and subscription services Microsoft can throw at you whilst monitoring everything you do whilst being always online. Will definitely be giving this a wide berth as I only want to play games on it and don't want any of the other crap.
  • Will be nice to see what rumours were true and what weren't. An interesting point as(if you think it's interesting), the next CoD will probably be demo'd as well. Not that... not that I was bothered or anything 0_O
  • @46 uhm...okay?
  • I will be in the Dominican Republic on vacation :) *shrugs*
  • "the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment." should read "the beginning of a new generation of games and bullshit that no one wants from a GAME CONSOLE"
  • MS Reveal really cant be as bad as sonys, anyone thats even considered buying a ps4 after their less than mediocre not actually showing/confirming anything based on all these rumours is mad. If MS does screw up, we might as well wait for Peter Molyneux to do a console... I'm sure there will be games I want a ps4 for and the xbox for. May just call it quits though and go back to retro gaming. Fed up of x sequels of games that don't really need them. Digs out something random part 3 to play.
  • May 21st. Deal with it!
  • I'd watch but a I don't have an internet connection...wait a minute : )
  • For me to buy this next Xbox, it has to: play all my Xbox Live Games play all my Xbox retail Games keep my gamerscore no red rings of death if they do this, I'm on board..if not then I'm done gaming! Hope they bring out Killer Instinct and Final Fantasy 7..those 2 games will make me buy the system hands down..
  • Finally if just so the rumours can end :)
  • I don't care what anyone says about Microsofts dream of an entertainment console. I'm buying it anyway and I love that my Xbox does more than play games. I use my Xbox for games, music, films, tv shows, some light internet browsing, chatting with friends both voice, text and video calling. I use nearly every type of feature the Xbox offers and I sure as hell hope the next one does it all too. Of course throwing some more money into games would be nice Microsoft. Oh and a backwards compatible console. Don't care if it is always online or not. I only play when I can connect to Live(girlfriend doesn't exactly live close so an internet connection is a must if we wanna shoot zombies and shit together).
  • And according to my last comment the word both means three things...
  • The reason I am even remotely interested in getting this system is just all my hard work I've done for my gamerscore, despite only being 60k range now. Now if our GS doesn't transfer, then hello PS4
  • @61 god forbid its not 100k or more.
  • I have a friend who works for MS, and I mentioned the "always-on" connection, and he says that plan has been scrapped. MS is well aware of all the backlash, regarding the need for an always-on connection... and because of the "millions" of protests over it, now it won't happen (thank God)! Gamerscore WILL carry-over, NO BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY for 360 games (or older, of course). Xbox 360 consoles will continue to be made for one year after release of next-gen console - longer, if sales maintain.
  • I'd guess it won't be always online. My theory is that after the Orth Twitter kerfuffle they kicked the reveal from April 20th to the 21st of May to engineer that out and change their powerpoint.
  • Lets face it, regardless of all the crap people say about it, we will all want it and it will rock. I can't wait to own this!
  • It won't be always online. It won't be backwards compatible. (keep your 360) It will have lots of entertainment apps. (if you don't like them don't use them).
  • Needs to be play 360 games, priced around $300 and not require internet connection or will I won't even be tempted to buy it. WOULD BE NICE TO UPGRADE THE HARD DRIVE WITH ANY BRAND I CHOOSE ALSO.
  • I think "Xbox 180" would be more appropriate.
  • I honestly think most of the rumors are probably true due to the fact they got into consoles simply to out-do Sony.
  • Yes! great news
  • For everyone who is wanting it to have backwards capability, it will most likely not happen if they are going to be using Blue-Ray Technology with the New Console. it's impossible for a Console that doesn't run on Blue-Ray which would be the 360, and the games therefore are not "Blue-Ray either" so that's why it will be impossible for it to work IF they even decide to use Blue-Ray with the New Console. which I don't see why they wouldn't because you can do a lot more with Blue-Ray disk, they hold a lot more information. So i'm afraid for those who want that option, keep your Xbox 360, or buy the other new Console they are making which is code named "Sting-Ray" for $99.99
  • I look forward to the reveal, HOWEVER, if during the conference they do confirm its "always online" then that is when i will stop watching, open up internet explorer, and pre-order a PS4 using my Xbox. Always online is where i draw the line.
  • "the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment." I just want the games. Thank you.
  • I've had a really bad time with Xbox support so I might go back over to playstation for next generation. Here's to hoping the rumors are proven false or truth
  • I'd like backwards compat. but lets face it, PS4 isn't doing it either. I'd settle for a good virtual store of cheap past titles. Like Playstation and Nintendo do now. Not the overpriced crap for 1200MSP-$20 USD like microsoft does now for Xbox originals or full price the like arcade games or on demand titles. And let us play em in a party if we want for Christ sakes. But for me the biggest thing determining whether I get one of these at luanch alongside the PS4 is that online DMR crap. Online DMR and its a no go Micro$oft.
  • This is shocking news! They did a great job of keeping the new xbox a big secret! And that trick they kept pulling, saying there was no confirmation of a new xbox, that had me going!
  • (insert happiness here) (oh wait i dont have any)
  • I'm sure I'll get voted down, but I'm just as excited for the entertainment as the games. I like only having one box under my tv. Backwards compatibility is a must though, add on or inclusive I don't care but BC is non-negotiable, I don't care what PS4 is doing. I'll buy a Wii U first if neither Sony nor MS get this right.
  • They are going to reset everyone's gamer score :)
  • Maybe they're just going to announce that watch.
  • @71 Hold on, WTF are you on, Blu Ray drives read DVD dumb ass, otherwise I every time that I have put a DVD in my blu ray player I've been imagining watching it.
  • Time for Microsoft to show their hand, lets see what cards they put on the table
  • You never know microsoft could blow us all away with there new console. Looking forward to may 21st.
  • @63 I also have a friend who works for MS and he said that the new Xbox will be able to grill steaks and burgers, clean your house, make you Long Island Iced Teas, wipe your ass, prevent tooth decay, take your dog for a walk, and it will have a built in back and ball sack scratcher. Also it will disperse B12 vitamins and have a built in Red Bull faucet for those long watching video sessions.
  • @3 Are you a moron? They're making backwards compatibility chips, and according to a source from Microsoft there is no "always online" go suck on the teat of Sony, which the PS4 isn't backwards compatible. Also, "Xbox Infinity".
  • I was happy with the Pizza Hut app but I guess this news is just as exciting. Not sure how they're going to top that short of the new console doubling as a Foreman Grill.
  • @71 i think i'll take my rumors from someone that actually knows the name of the current optical formats. bluray drives can still read dvd9 discs
  • To everyone complaining and spouting that you're going to get the PS4 instead; we get it, you're jumping ship and buying a PS4. So move on to PS3Trophies and tell them about it because those of us who are still getting the next Xbox are tired of hearing about it.
  • All I want from the next Xbox is for it to be a more powerful version of what the 360 originally was, with a better disc format, and more big exclusives. I don't want Kinect, I don't care about TV/Movie/Music streaming, I'm sick of only having FableForzaGearsHalo. I want a TRADITIONAL GAMES CONSOLE not a media device, I can play all that other media on my PC, TV, Phone, I don't need yet another device that does it, I want something that focuses on gaming. If Micosoft are able offer that, without having to resort to Kinect-like crap then I'll look into buying the next Xbox, but if they continue the route they seem to be heading and focus on every BUT gaming, outside of those 4 franchise's, then I'm likely to go back to Sony next gen. Also before anyone says anything, i'm not necessarily against having the option to use the consoles for other media, I simply wish for Microsoft to stop making it there main focus point for both the 360 and there next console, as I said I can do those thing on other devices, when I buy a games console, I'm mainly planning on using it for gaming, and think they too should focus on that, or stop calling it a games console.
  • @3 yeah, you missed the fact that none of that is confirmed at this time
  • @ #88 Well said, and true.
  • #71....wtf? You clearly have no clue as to what you are talking about. I think I'll just say "Read #81's response" #84- I'm a simple man, I don't need all the bells and whistles. If my new Xbox makes Long Island iced teas, I'm golden. As long as it's isn't a subscription service of course.
  • What they need to offer to motivate me to buy it : - No "always connected" requirements. - At least partial backwards compatibility. I would prefer a full one (so with the retails games on disc, as I have more than hundred of retail games) but I want, at least, to be able to get back the more than hundred XBLA games I bought and to not have to switch to the 360 each time I want to play to one of those games. Would be enough for me, but I don't think they'll do it. If not, I'll just buy another PC and put it under my TV with a 360 controller and problem solved. The only exclusives games Microsoft have don't interest me at all (Forza & Gears of War) nor Sony's ones does (the only one I was still interested in was Yakuza and the series is now over, and Metal Gear is not an exclusive games anymore, the next one is also planned for PC). Not to mention that now, most of the games are also released on PC.
  • @84 "IF" you have a friend who works for MS - and "IF" he actually knew anything... you would confirm what I passed along, and not make a bunch or smart-aleck remarks (which would be typical of a child or retard who likes to be argumentative)! There's OBVIOUSLY no truth in what you've said, but what I've said will be apparent when the next console launches! Now go wipe your own ass, since nothing else will do it for you!!!
  • So, the next Microsoft console is called "New Generation." Not a very catchy name.
  • The only way I'm getting next xbox is if they blow my mind with the reveal because quite honestly all that Microsoft has done is put up ads on xbox live and a handful of average exclusives. Almost forgot about the pizza hut app, really?
  • This is a list of things which decides whether or not i switch to PS4. No always online Allow backwards compatibility Allow used games No subscription fee (Microsoft can't expect to get away with it anymore unless they add some BIG features Sony doesn't have) I would prefer if they let me keep my gamer score too. Don't be overpriced as hell. Knowing Microsoft though, they will probably be money whores and do something terrible, i have little hope in Microsoft these days.
  • I do hope i'm wrong though and Microsoft surprises the hell out of me and finally listens to us gamers, but knowing Microsoft i'm 80% sure that won't happen.
  • @5 What if they actually call it the 720? Personally, as much as I'd like to get it, even with all the controversy, I'll probably wait until it's been out a while and they've worked the bugs out and lowered the price. Or maybe I'll lose all self-control and buy it right away. I am curious how they'll handle gamercards being transferred back and forth from old to new. Plus, how they'll handle multiplayer games if some people are on the old and some on the new. Most games it might not affect, but I read that BF4 will have 24v24 for the new Xbox, but the 360 will keep 12v12. Can new owners play with people on the 360 if they drop to 12v12? We'll see, I guess.
  • I don't like were M$ is going so im buying the PS4.
  • @99 There is no chance of console crossover gaming. 360 players will play with 360 players. New xbox will play with new xbox players. And there will not be backwards compatibility, they will have you purchase and download "classic" titles.
  • I feel that the PS4 is better. And with the way Xbox has treated me these past couple of years, I might just go to PS4, I've never even played any playstation, except for a PSP.
  • #101- please cite your sources.
  • @#3 : You forgot lack of compelling first-party software.
  • What I want to know is, how is MS going to handle your friends list? Not everybody is going to buy the next Xbox when it comes out so will you still be able to go into a party with your friends? Or even play with them?
  • @94 Of course there is no truth in what I said, I was joking with you. And where is your evidence to substantiate your claims, your so called "friend" that works for Microsoft ? I might be a little retarded, but obviously you have went "Full Retard" if you think people are going to believe that your friend who works for Microsoft has given you inside information about their plans for the new XBOX.
  • Why are all you morons going off of rumors? Wait until it is revealed then decide what you want to do.
  • @17 You're absolutely right. This whole press conference will contain attempts at convincing us that buying an Xbox is more efficient than owning a computer, phone, Bluray player, music service, cable service, toaster, refrigerator, clock etc.. Rather than focus on what originally got them to where they are which was the games. I never had a chance to own the original Xbox but I did use it and play on it with friends at the time, I miss the good old days, Games and then the introduction of the Arcade Marketplace, such simple days long gone..
  • @#85 hey jackass im xbox guy but i doubt they will do that and if they do price would be more ridiculous.
  • Ewwww Xbox PC is so much better and a lot cheaper to.
  • *20 years from now. "Can you believe the Xbox used to be a gaming console?!"
  • Still concerned as to why they had to delay the original unveiling, and the fact that there are still a lot of nasty rumors flying around I don't like the sound of. Giving MS the benefit of the doubt here, but I'm going in with rather low expectations at this point
  • I cant get over all the people saying "If it's not backwards compatible, I'm buying a PS4!". You people do realize that Sony already announced that PS4 wont be backwards compatible, right? These comments are so full of fail that someone even thinks that DVDs dont work in a Blu-Ray player. OT: I for one will be buying the new Xbox either way, just like a majority of the posters here will even though they say otherwise. As for it being an "entertainment console" and not a gaming system, I have no problems as long as they offer the hardcore gamers something to sink their teeth into. I also wouldn't mind a few more console exclusive series and support for more players in MP games (64v64 or at least 32v32 Battlefield games please)!
  • First! wait a minute... DAMN
  • Still way too close to E3 for my liking. I hope the conference knocks my socks off but I just have a bad feeling that it's going to be the same old Kinect/entertainment hub garbage.
  • If #3 is correct, I might have to wait for the price drop...
  • @113: Good. Nice to see reasonable posts every now and then to reaffirm my faith in internet-humanity.
  • If it's 2 to 3 times the price of the Wii U, I will wait a year or two to buy it. If it has always online for more than just backwards compatibility, doesn't allow 2nd hand or borrowing of friends games and has always on kinect, then I won't buy. In fact, I would prefer that they have two different models for sale - one with kinect, and a cheaper one without it so those who will never use it don't have to waste money on its needless purchase.
  • hope you can transfer the xbox 360 hard drive memory to the new one, and be backwards compatible
  • Given that most of you know nothing about this reveal, shouldn't you be excited and positive instead of cynical and full of internet rage?
  • @3 You forgot to mention that they are all rumours ;-)
  • All i care about is that it is backwards compatible. If not i'll stay with the 360 till i finish all the games i'm interested in, give up consoles and play pc games.
  • What would be rediculous to see is if they announce the new xbox, then start showing all the launch titles for it, then they will spend an hour telling you how many services it will have, including all the TV and movies on demand stuff, music and etc. and after all that they will still not confirm or deny the rumors about having to always be online and not being able to play used games...
  • Oh dear people worried their gamerscore won't carry over hahaha. People stopped caring about a pointless number back in 2007 when they realised how easy it is to hack & exploit GS without Microsoft knowing a thing. Backwards compatibility will also be a no.
  • Why are all you morons saying, "I'm going to go PS4 if there is no backwards capability" - well neither does PS4 so you won't actually be protesting against anything you morons. The new xbox is going to be great. It's going to be just like the 360 but better and the ps4 will be just like the ps3 but better. Just because there are all these apps and things doesn't mean that its not going to be a good console. Have you seen the Playstation menu? It's God awful. I for one, after owning a PS3, am never going to go back to Playstation and if you all make the mistake of going there - then I'm sure I will see you all back on this website and back on the xbox live in a year or two...
  • Loving all the kids saying they're gonna switch to PS4 before the new XBOX is even announced. My money is on it being incredibly similar.
  • goods timing my 6th xbox shit itself (constantly turning itself off) so i didnt have to renew my gold subscription so i really dont give a shit about always online anymore and so over buying new xbox's lucky ive got a ps3
  • #BillNyeTheScienceGuy
  • i will just be happy that all of the rumors will finally be put to rest.. i happily await their announcement
  • I just sold my Xbox 360 yesterday.
  • "the beginning of a new generation of...TV and entertainment" is what scares me. Microsoft have forgotten what the xbox is supposed to be about and in their attempt to widen its appeal and make it more profitable they are going to alienate gamers and just turn it into a shitty media box.
  • I assume all the relevant information released will be summarised on here, so I'll just wait for the text reports. I have no interest in watching the actual thing, it'll just be MS bigging themselves up.
  • I guess we just have to trust Microsoft that they will do what's best for the gamers... Who am I kidding.
  • I honestly could care less about backwards compatibility, I plan on keeping my 360 and playing it for some time and the main reason is Grand Theft Auto V. What I DO care about are these always online rumors and I hope Microsoft comfronts this issue on May 21st and says it won't happen. And to all these people using the so called "Your a Kid" insult, I'm a fucking grown man, I work for a living, I can afford a PS4 or a PC and to be honest, I think I am going to purchase a gamming PC. I checked out Steam finally the other day, the deals they have are astounding. And the Summer Sale that's coming up, shit Microsoft ans Sony can't compete with that.
  • I done with people's bitching. Shut the fuck up, wait until it's released, and then you're allowed to bitch. God damn. And some of you call yourself gamers.
  • the ppl that always complain about it being online all the time make me laugh so much, I mean are you not connected to the internet 24/7 anyway?? my nets not been off for more then 1 day due to technical problems. but still whats their problem? and im sure there will be a way to appear offline to ppl anyway..
  • @ 136 Not all of us are as privileged as you to have a constant Internet connection. There are too many elitist spoiled brats on this site who think we all live in the same magical internet hub that they reside in.
  • Awesome!
  • I love the moronic trolls who keep saying that the PS4 is better...Based on what? They showed almost nothing about it except for in-game cutscenes, and some games that are not really new. Oh wait I forgot, you can let someone else play a level for you if you can't beat it. What a useful feature, I've always wanted to watch someone else play MY game for me. No pricing, no pictures, no line-up, no backwards-compatibility with PS3 or even PSN purchases, and yet it's better than a system that hasn't even been released yet? *sigh*
  • I'm waiting to see how many discs it will take to hold a game
  • I totally agree with #139... How the fuck can people say ''DERP, I'M GONNA BUY A PS4, FUCK THIS SHIT WITH THE ALWAYS ONLINE(Which is the only reason i seem to hear why NOT to buy the new Xbox), But seriously, how the fuck can you say that, while they didn't even release any official information yet... Jesus mate, fucking 12 year olds...
  • Cannot wait for the 21st! It's about time we see some actual facts straight from Microsoft instead of all these crappy internet rumors.
  • This thread has boiled my piss! 1. If the 360 is always-on, the PS4 probably will be too 2. Keep your 360 for your 360 games 3. If you don't need media functionality, don't use it 4. Integrated Kinect, why is that a bad thing? Don't use it if you don't want to I don't like the used game block, but ultimately that's down to the publishers not Microsoft, and certainly if they enforce that then it'll be on all consoles
  • @137 100% agree with everything you have said. Let's hug.
  • Who's excited to here some facts and not rumors? This guy, that's who!!
  • This press conference is going to decide if I stay loyal or go back to Sony. You best impress microsoft
  • I hope GTA5 is on the new console - may explain why the release date was pushed for later this year. Always online doesn't bother me, but I don't use my XBox for much more than games right now. Not sure I want to use it as my TV source...
  • I probably will get it, but just for the awesome games I want for it, like Ass Creed 4, GTA 5, Watch Dogs etc. If it doesn't impress me that much, my 360 has survived for 5 years, I'm pretty sure I can get more use out of it if the next generation sucks.
  • watching video of "the last of us" at gamestop is almost enough to possess me to go buy a playstation. that shit looked amazing. still love my xbox and I feel the 360 has a lot of life in it.
  • backwards capability and Battlefront 3. Then I'll be set.
  • "the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment" You had me at games. But lost me at TV and entertainment. No sale if always on DRM is still happening.
  • We're all buying either one no ones just gonna quit playing video games without playing the new console. I give everyone posting here 1 year after it releases to have one =)
  • I have a feeling I'll be selling my MS stock that day...
  • I'll buy one a year or two after it's released and can get it dirt cheap USED. Yeah, stick that up your ass M$ and your anti-used policy. I remember the days, in fact like ten years ago, that I could go into a store and buy four or five used PC games for like five bucks and nobody complained about their profits. QQ we only made 220 million freaking dollars on Halo 4 sales... on launch day. "the beginning of a new generation of games, TV and entertainment" - Seriously? A "GAMING" system should maybe, I think, focus on... Oh, I don't know, games? I bought an SNES specifically to play Zelda: A Link To The Past and Donkey Kong Country, you think I gave a fuck that it didn't play a cassette or let me watch Power Rangers? To ruin the suspense: No. I also don't see the point of having it always connected to the internet. You just killed the hopes and dreams of kids everywhere who's parents don't want them on the internet - you know who you are. As an adult, if the Xbox is truly a "beginning of a new generation of entertainment" then I should be able to disconnect and watch the porn I downloaded without getting interrupted by "CockBlocker2 has come online". Achievement Unlocked: "Nerd Rage!"
  • Looks like i need to start saving up my money :) First game im gonna buy? Thief!!
  • @155 that is if Thief even comes out now, the studio has apparently been hit with problems and now the games release is in question. I am not happy about the news I really want a new Thief!
  • Great, more crap from microsoft.
  • remember when it used to be about playing games.... me either...
  • Hope it will be better presentation that one that was for PS4 revelation.
  • All i hope is that the stupid rumours about always online and no backwards compatability isn't true. other then that i'm kinda excited for what they have to say :)
  • Would anyone be disappointed if after all the rumours about names for the next gen console, they just dropped everything and simply called it 'Xbox' ?
  • In my humble opinion... I really think that Microsoft has positioned themselves perfectly to potentially hurt the Sony PS4 sales, maybe even significantly... IF (that's a VERY big if)... the new Xbox: 1. has backwards compatibility 2. does NOT require an always-on internet connection 3. and still allows us to play used/borrowed games (at least the Single-Player campaign). Also, it probably wouldn't hurt if they decided not to waste a lot of space on Apps and Social Networking that have nothing to do with GAMING. Let us (the users) choose what we want to use, then download ONLY those apps we want.
  • I'm actually curious about their decision to move even more in the direction of general entertainment, apps and television, instead of focusing on gaming. Did they actually do long-term surveys? Or just following the general trend? But what trend, actually? My observation is that all that "extreme mobiling" and "app-mania", the omnipresence of peripheral devices like tablets for example (which i think wont be present on the market anymore in 4 years), has already passed its climax. A lot of people I know, including me, are satiated by all-rounder-gadgets that can do an-oh-wonder-amount of things, but excel at none. I personally feel an anti-trend, especially among us gamers, that thwarts what the mainstream media still propagates.
