2K Marin's XCOM Shooter To Be Rebranded as 'The Bureau'?

Previously in 2K Marin's XCOM shooter rumours, word on the street was that the game was set to change tack and become a squad-based third-person shooter, and now, there's hearsay surrounding 2K Games' registration of domains thebureau-game.com, thebureau-game.net and whathappenedin62.com.

It's thought that these domains could be hinting at a rebranding of 2K Marin's troubled XCOM shooter, which had you stepping into the polished wingtips of an FBI agent in 1962. With Firaxis' XCOM: Enemy Unknown enjoying some well-deserved success, it could be that 2K is considering making the two games closer to one another in genre terms, to avoid dilution of the brand.

Poor old XCOM has been through the wringer since its development commenced back in 2005, with the latest official line stating that the game will be coming during fiscal year 2014. We saw the game back at E3 in 2011, and have to say that the XCOM shooter actually looked rather promising. Strange...

  • I was really looking forward to this game, but I don't think I can name one game that was in development for more than 5 years that actually turned out good.
  • Wasnt half life 2 in development for 5 years or so? And dragon age: origins? Though neither game has the problems this one does.
  • @2 I'll agree with you there, after buying both Duke Nukem and Aliens:CM I have learned not to bother with these types of games.
  • If it's had a troubled development then it will be shit. Just cut your losses and give up now. Not everything needs to be turned into a first person shooter!
  • @2 What about GTA V?
  • @2 Alan Wake?
  • Alan wake was pretty rubbish imo...so I cant count that. Xcom enemy unknown is one of my favourite games of recent years....if this has the same kind of quality I will certainly be giving it a go.
  • I remember reading an article on XCOM in the Official Xbox Magazine waaaaay back in June or July 2010. Hard to believe so much time has gone by. Wonder how much of the game's concept has changed since then. I was pretty excited for it, the setting was an interesting one.
  • Hang in there 2K Marin. We are still looking forward to this game!
  • @2 Prey and Alan Wake, but otherwise I do agree.
  • I was looking forward to this, a refreshing change from the U.S modern military FPS template.
  • @9 if you liked xcom as much as you say,(i really loved it),then you should check out the latest history channel game "Legends of war", its basically xcom but set in world war 2.It took me ages to track down a copy as it got a really bad launch,no body was stocking it because it wasnt aaa.But for me it was just as good as xcom and a much easier 1000g. I found it crazy that xcom is getting all theses awards when such a similar game doesnt even get a propper launch.
  • I'm sure I'm not the only one. I seriously LOVED the way the game looked, being an FPS and having that style. I really wish it had just been released as is. Chances are, unless it's amazing, I'm not going to buy it if they overhaul the game and change its style.
