Arkane Studios’ Dishonored picked up the Best Game award at last night’s BAFTA’s in a ceremony dominated by digital releases.

Of the 18 gongs up for grabs, boxed retail games netted just just four awards. And although it should be noted that some of the gongs - like Best Mobile & Handheld - obviously preclude disc-based releases, it was nevertheless a statement of intent for the academy.

By far the most celebrated winner on the night was Journey, thatgamecompany’s beautiful PSN-exclusive. It picked up no less than a quarter of the total awards, including Original Music, Artistic Achievement, Game Design, Audio Achievement, and Online Multiplayer. Another PSN-exclusive, The Unfinished Swan, won Debut Game and Innovation.

For me The Unfinished Swan is massively overrated, sure it looks different but I think for a 2/3 hour game Journey gets it done way better. Hats off to Dishonered and Xcom though really well deserved.

Journey won online multiplayer? That's a bit of a stretch. Seems like the gave plenty of awards to that game just for the sake of it - it's a lovely title but come on.

Why is there a "British Game" category and no "American Game" category? I feel slighted...

Dave Fennoy or Melissa Hutchinson should've taken home the award for best performer. Walking Dead was just perfection

@4. Totally agree with you there. Walking Dead was one of my favourite games from last year. Nice to see it get some recognition along with Far Cry 3 and Lego Batman 2. Enjoyed both them games too.

These awards are a joke ran by cogniscenti pretenders.

Proof A; Only Walking Dead is a worthy winner from that list.

Proof B; Dara o'Brien is a knob & shit at games. Sorry, the guy just riles me something awful. Stupid Count Von Count lookalike.

Proof C; Cos I said so right?!

I'm surprised that Dust An Elysian Tail wasn't nominated in a couple of these categories. It was a beautiful game and a lot of fun to play.

Yeah, right...

First of all Black Ops II had no place being on any of those lists. And yes, I have the game.

Secondly how the hell can an Assassin's Ceeed ever be considered for best multiplayer ? It's a SOLO game. The multi sucks and is so boring it almost made me deprossive after a couple hours.

I saw some other weird names up there but I really can't be bothered to look through the lists again.

@3 Bafta stands for British Academy film & television awards.
I think that's the reason there was a specific award to British games.

Need For Speed Most Wanted and Diablo III had no place there either.

VAAS's performer definitely should've got some kind of award. Well whoever wrote his text and picked the voice should. I couldn't tell whether he was performing good or not (it's a video game, how could you tell anyway ?)

It's really gratifying to see how well received this game has been. Ever since the GI article and Internet coverage from them as well to its release, I ravenously consumed and hunted for any bit of information I could get. I felt that this was going to be something truly special. Can't wait for the next DLC, especially since it appears it will mark the return of the Timish level. I hope this site can shed some light on how much has changed or hasn't.

Good job Arkane.

So happy Dishonored take home with GAME OF THE YEAR 2012 Award.

But one thing about list here.

BAFTA Ones To Watch Award

Starcrossed--Kimi Sulopuisto, Vili Viitaniemi, Minttu Meriläinen, Petri Liuska, Andrew MacLean (Kind of a Big Deal)
Project Thanatos--Hugh Laird, Andrew Coles, Thomas Laird, Alexandra Shapland, Thomas Kemp (Raptor Games)
Pixel Story--Martin Cosens, Thomas McParland, Ashley Hayes, Benjamin Rushton, Luke Harrison (Loan Wolf Games)

It's so wrong and crap.

It is should be

BAFTA Ones To Watch Award

Bioshock Infinite
GTA V
Watch Dogs

That is real and better rather then stupid list for one to watch. Lmfao

Far Cry 3 is a shambles of style over substance. Where were the thrills or player deaths as a result of anything besides falling? Super weak

I can't really hold any of the games in tis list as dependable choice's, even the ones I know are deserving of that spot, simply because CoD Bo2 was nominated. The least innovative game currently going, was nominated for innovation.

@13: Yeah, DAFUQ at no awards for Vaas. For what it's worth, Ubisoft pretty much created Vaas around the actor Michael Mando after coming in for an audition to play an angry, muscled, 6'6" white guy and giving them the total opposite. Safe to say with Michael Mando Vaas wouldn't exist.

@27

I just went to check those. The first few categories don't seem that odd but holy crap it gets hilarious ! I can't believe the new NFS Most Wanted got best Driving Game award XD.

I've got no idea what best original score is but the contenders are a joke.

Oh god, do they ever know what the word "Graphics" means ? The Best Graphics category is outrageous.

WOW ! If you don't want to die of laughter do not check out the Character of the Year award's nominees or winner x).

@27 Thanks a lot for that. Never thought it'd be possible to have worse awards.
