Tomb Raider Movie Taking the New Game as Inspiration

Launching globally today, Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider reboot is to be the inspiration for a new Tomb Raider movie, featuring a younger Lara Croft learning to become a survivor. It'll take movie reboots like Batman Begins and Casino Royale as a template.

The new Tomb Raider movie will be coming from GK Films, who have produced movies like Rango and The Departed, and will be working closely with Crystal Dynamics during the film's production. It'll be a whole new take and won't continue where the old Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider movies left off.

“They are working from this new take that we’ve given them. It’s a good partnership. We’re seeing the challenges through the same lens,” Crystal Dynamics' boss Darrell Gallagher said of the collaboration with GK Films. “It was important for both of us to have a cohesive version of the franchise. We didn’t want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old ‘Tomb Raider’ films.”

	Good, maybe this movie will actually be more like the game it's based on, instead of the generic B-movies that the previous ones were. :/

	Hope it goes better this time around. The 2nd Tomb Raider movie failed, as did the game that was released at the same time to cash in on the movie. Universal blamed Crystal Dynamics for making a bad game. Crystal Dynamics blamed Universal for making a bad movie.

	I actually thought the first Tomb Raider movie was pretty enjoyable. The follow up.....eh....not so much. I'd be interested in watching a reboot - I guess it's been long enough. Would be nice to see a gritty realistic take on it.

	Producers of The Departed, my favorite film! OT: Mitra Rhona or Kate Backinsale are too old to play her now :( I have not a clue of any good young actresses to play Lara.

	@7 Mila Kunis...really? Sure she's attractive but I don't remember seeing her in any action movies meaning she probably isn't athletic enough or likes those roles.

	I would actually love for them to go with someone like Gemma Arterton not only could she obviously nail the accent but also could pull off the more emotional side of Lara instead of just the kick ass persona.

	Jennifer Lawrence would be a great Lara Croft. If she did hunger games she can do a Tomb Raider reboot especially if if follows the new storyline.

	The girl playing her voice this time around wouldn't be a bad choice for live action as well, she's one of the better actors on greys anatomy and has the look. Plus. British. Camilla luddington I believe. How British is that name?

	pfft Movie schmoovie...all i care about at the moment is the fact the game is awesome really enjoying it, even though i'm playing as a female lead character(which isn't really my thing) it's one of the best games i've played in a long time.

	Would be nice if they used an English girl for an English role this time. Far too many Americans doing accents. That said, we've had people doing accents as Americans too. Given Cradle of Life was one of the worst films ever made (no hyperbole, it's fucking terrible), I can understand them starting over. I'm no fan of reboots, but I can't say I blame them here.

	@30 Thanks man...Deep-seeded almost makes sense in a metaphorical way (though seeds sown too deeply won’t grow), but deep-seated is the term you’re looking for. The phrasal adjective (usually requiring a hyphen) simply indicates that something is seated (in the sense fixed firmly in place) deeply in something else. The OED defines it as having its seat far beneath the surface I am a complete asshole indeed, but not so much that I can't admit I'm wrong
