Battlefield 4 Being Shown Off Behind Closed Doors, Impressing Retailers
Written Wednesday, February 20, 2013 By Lee Bradley
View author's profile

EA is showing off Battlefield 4 behind closed doors to retailers and it seems to be making a positive impression.

Following one such presentation, one retailer couldn’t hide its enthusiasm. Gamestop CEO Paul Raines tweeted, “Got to see Battlefield 4 today and all I can say is WOW! Thanks @EA for the sneak peek. Can’t wait for you all to see it. ^CEO #BF4”

Although the game is yet to be properly, officially unveiled, EA has been very public about the existence of the upcoming shooter. The publisher’s Twitter account even retweeted the GameStop CEO’s comments.

Battlefield 4 was first outed in July of last year, after it was revealed that Medal of Honor: Warfighter players would be allowed exclusive access to the upcoming shooter’s beta.

It’s also possible we may learn more about the game tonight, at the expected reveal event for the PlayStation 4. We’ll keep you posted.

This would be a fantastic launch title for the next gen. I hope we have some AAA titles out of the starting gate.

I'll make my mind up when I see gameplay.

No point in jumping and screaming about it.

@ #2. True. But it's exciting. BF3, in my opinion, set the bar for first person shooters. It's hard to imagine how BF4 can totally one-up it.

Am I going to fall in love with the multiplayer only to have it ruined through the rent a server system?

For me the main improvements needed are:
no single player - bots on MP maps instead (bots are under-used in MP games)
more people on servers
better base defenses to avoid "base raping"
no maps that insist on just infantry or CQBs

I hope if they release a beta then the actual game will start out with less bugs. I remember going from the beta to the retail game and it was filled with a lot of problems just like the beta.

@6 EA do have some very dodgy business practices but the DLC and pass for BF3 has been rather good and is more than an occaisonal "map pack"

So the CEO of a company that will be selling the game wants you to know that it's worth buying? Stop the presses.

Better have a better, longer, more interesting fucking campaign, Battlefield 3's campaign was boring and short and had annoying glitches(not being told how to take out the russian, being shot when running to the helicopter from the mall when your told its clear) and the online is full of BS(unless you have loads of time to play you just get wiped, as least with COD(despite it repetitive/cut© campaigne and MP) you stand a chance even if you are a noob or a casual player) and revolves around screwing people over that don't want to pay a premium for some over priced maps. I will wait for a premium edition.

@4 I would completely agree. That is if the game had stayed how it was at launch. The incessant patching, completely unwarranted nerfing of most weapon systems and the whole rent a server thing completely ruined what was an excellent release at launch IMO.

@3, I bet it will come out a few years after BF4, although the multiplayer wasn't really all that different. I liked the story in the Bad Company series a hell of a lot more than I enjoyed the story in BF3.

@4 personally I thought bf3 was a mess...

Bad company 1 or 2 were great. The problem is its ea who control the servers, which fuck up on every battlefield game, causes massive amounts of lag on launch and right until about 4 months in when ea go "oh by the way we've just issued out an update to Microsoft that will take about 4 weeks to be issued"

Where then people like myself, make the jump of getting rid of a broken game and get ones that are working.

@18 you can still have a campaign but have it centered around bots on the MP maps - Battlefield was never supposed to be a SP game and that would be the best of both worlds

@19 how do you work out that basically playing MP by yourself but with bots is best of both worlds, it doesn't give any story or meaning to the game.

@20 Why can't you stick a story or meaning to the mode i describe? People are moaning that they are sticking MP modes to games that don't need them (tomb raider, mass effect etc..), whats the difference with Battlefield? Its not supposed to be a single player game

I think some kind of proper team balancing needs to be done, I'm fed up of joining a random server where one team has all colonels or level 100s where as the other team have all low levels. Also the Rent a server is fine, but when there's most rented servers with douchebag admins than actual DICE servers we have many problems.

@5 I thought the rent a server program was awesome. Yea there were "badmins" as the Internet calls them, but servers with such people were easy to avoid and it was just as easy to find an excellent server with settings you want. I haven't played a game of CQ that wasn't set to 200% tickets since the rent a server feature launched and I've loved every minute of it.

@23 The single player portion of Battlefield 1942(first games in the series) was just the multiplayer with bots. This is pretty much what the guy your are telling off suggested to be done with the single player in Battlefield 4.

BF3 was the first "Battlefield" with a SP campaign. SP has always been MP maps against bots.
The only exceptions to this are the Bad Company series, which are exactly that: a separate series.

If I had to, I would like to see both in BF4. I hate having to learn to fly jets and helis ONLINE against people who have been playing for over a year.

They also seriously need to add the old "F11 / F12" cameras (3rd person rear views) for at least the jets. Whilst we are on it, do away with vehicle unlocks or provide alternatives.

I dont think it would hurt sales to not have an actual linear story telling campaign with cut scenes and characters, difficulty settings, and achievements tied to it. However i believe they would miss some sales if they left it out. Who knows though, I'm no educated financial/sales advisor...that's for sure.

I think it's hilarious that the same people who whine and cry about MP being tacked on to SP only franchises are ok with devs who tack on a SP campaign to MP only franchises.

Having just played Battlefield 3 and not being able to bring myself to go back and complete it, I can tell you that this will be just as bad as Battlefield 3. Everbody likes to say it has good graphics, but they are shit and cant even keep up at 30fps. A terrible game with terrible controls, graphis and gameplay.
Yes Ive completed lots of COD's and they were all great untill MW3. And unlike most of you I stop when games go to shit. I gave Battlefield a chance, it sucked and I wont go back. Same as COD, Deadspace, etc theyve gone to shit.
At least weve got Bioshock, Tomb Raider, and maybe Metro:Last Light coming out soon.

Hate how everyone here follows the crowd and bitches about the same things over and over. "EA sucks, Battlefield 3 is crap, Call of duty is the worst game ever, blah, blah, blah".

Battlefield 3 is one of my favorite multiplayer games, the rent a server option added so much. I love being able to still play on a dice server if I want, yet also being able to play an hour long games with custom settings. The fact many of you people complain about optional features in games is so stupid I can not even begin to comprehend your illogical way of thinking.

Anyways, I can not wait for this game. Hoping it is a launch title for next gen.

Also te rent a server option is bullshit, sure it's nice when you wanna boost or something but many of the first series of MP games on this console gave all the same options to you for free.
So really now you get to pay for options that used to be included. Thats pretty shitty.
Thanks for all the thumb's down. I'll give myself one aswell. Just as bad as the fanboys that I met trying to play the awfull game.

I don't care if it is in the civil war or in space, give us 64 players god damnit. Even 32+ would be nice at this point. Nothing ever compared to BF2 because of that reason. If frontlines fuels of war managed to do it back in 08 or god knows when it came out then surely they can get 64 players on consoles. Also scrap the singleplayer, it was shit, just face it, either give us better co-op with bot hunt, or levels that are free roamable how battlefield should be, but really you only buy it for the MP unless you are an idiot.

If they release a new console with extra powerful hardware inside, having 64 player games / maps will become reality. Also good internet speed is needed.

I hope nobody wastes the time buying this game right out the gate after the trash EA pulled with BF3. I know that I myself won't be buying the game for at least a year so I can get a full loaded edition with all DLC rather then expected to pay another 50 bucks for a season pass...BF3 with all DLC is worth 60 bucks not 110 like they expect day one customers to buy.

@39 so i'm an idiot because i enjoy games with both multiplayer and campaign. well if that's the case everybody who likes skyrim or fallout is an idiot. i like campaign because sometimes i just wanna shoot stuff and not deal with idiots who brag bout kd and their mods and when i play mp its because i wanna hang with my friends also halo with out campaign would be stupid. some guys are ment to be mp only while others are story driven and some are both. personallyi wanted both in bf3 but even though i did enjoy bf3 campaign i will say it could have been more just like medal of honor warfighter. but its whatever i'm more of an oldschool hardocore gamer anyways, and newage gamers just don't care for single player anymore.
