Rock Band's DLC Tracks Set to End in April
Written Monday, February 18, 2013 By Richard Walker

Rock Band's weekly schedule of downloadable tracks is set to come to an end in April, Harmonix has declared today, putting a full stop on over 275 consecutive weeks of support for the series, with more than 4000 songs available to download.

The move comes as Harmonix looks to focus its resources on other projects, with "several new titles" currently in development at the Boston-based studio. April 2nd has been confirmed as the date that the final weekly DLC for Rock Band will be released, and there'll be no more after that.

"While there is no content currently scheduled beyond April 2nd, we still have DLC releases lined up for the next few weeks, including the remaining tracks from Rock Band Blitz, several Pro Guitar upgrades, and a handful of artists who have not yet appeared in Rock Band. We’re incredibly proud of the DLC milestones we’ve set, especially producing the largest music library of any game available, and we wouldn’t have been able to release as much outstanding content without the support of our amazing community," the announcement elaborates.

To thank the Rock Band community, Harmonix has decided to extend its ongoing DLC sale, which offers 50% off over 1,100 songs, so you can build your library.

Harmonix concludes the announcement by promising continued support in its forums and across social media, before bidding a fond farewell to Rock Band's DLC.

"Whether you waited in line for a midnight release of Rock Band over 5 years ago, or you just joined the party with Rock Band Blitz… whether you’ve downloaded every single song we’ve ever released, or you’ve just played on disc songs until your neighbours moved away… whether you’re a metal shredder, or a bubblegum pop singer… thank you for being a part of our band."

It had to stop at some point, but it's sad that that time is now. Thank you Harmonix for never letting me down, for sticking to your guns, and really for producing a lot of great content on a consistent basis. Can't wait to see what else is in store from them!

This is a very sad day for me indeed. It does say that weekly DLC is ending but I wonder if that extends for all DLC, maybe a monthly or bimonthly pack.

I wonder what the final song/song pack will be.
5 bucks says its American Pie.

This is a sad announcement. It bums me out because there are so many 80' "hair"-era songs that have been waiting for, and it makes me want to give the finger to all the people who constantly complained about what the weekly releases were.

So I raise my glass with one hand to salute Harmonix and I flip the bird with the other toward all the detractors and complainers.

I still don't understand why there wasn't something like:

Example - "This weeks Rockband's tracks (7th-14th)"

on the marketplace as one item, instead of spamming the new releases with each song individually.

(Not hating, but for a non RB player it was annoying too see the spam each week).

Fucking gutted. Been buying DLC since it's inception. Hopefully they're working on another game in the series and will look into the DLC again in the future. It was, after all, a good cash earner for them according to their profit figures.

@17 It's a fad to YOU. Just like Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed are becoming fads to ME. To each their own. And to be honest, you would be surprised just how many people still buy DLC on a regular basis and how many people still actively play it.

I think I'm gonna cry, Harmonix IS the shit in the business. They've always been shat on but they're such an awesome Dev group. They're loyal to the fans aswell, got 160 MSP to download a track or two from the RB Store.

Wow... I'm speechless. I think this may actually be it for music games. I know they were slowing down, but with Harmonix actually stopping the DLC releases, it's pretty much the same as taking a person off of life support.

Seems fitting for a send off, thought it wasn't God; it was Harmonix!

Good riddance.

In the past 3 years there has been ONE song I would want to buy. I understand why they target high-mass-market-appeal songs, but it's hardly endearing for me.

Last song I bought was Caprici di Diablo. I'd have bought Amaranth but I sold the game a few months before out of disappointment with the DLC.

Harmonix, thank you. Thank you for helping to do something very unique like release songs every week for over 5 years. Not many gaming companies could truly say they did that. Thank you also for not only introducing me to various bands, but for personally motivating me to learn guitar after people complained about RB and GH. If you ever create another RB game, I know I'll be sure to pick it up.

Basically thanks for an era of awesome.

I'm firmly in the "glad to see the back of them" camp. It just hogged the new release section of the add-ons and there have been times i've missed dlc for games i own due to how much RB took up. I think they should have come up with a better system for the new tracks to be available.

This truly is a sad day. I love my Rock Band, I've bought all the major disc releases, only missing a few of the track pack discs, and I still invest in DLC. Truly sad times, but I will definitely keep an eye on HMX's next projects. I suppose Dance Central is safe though right? Not that I have Kinect...

As a hardcore rhythm game player ever since Guitar Hero II was released, this is the saddest news I've heard all year. Me and the rest of the rhythm game community have known it was going to be coming to an end for a long time now, but that doesn't lighten the blow any. Rock Band is my single favorite series to be released this entire console generation and it's such a shame that the consistent stream of DLC is finally coming to an end. I'll be sure to pick up everything that comes out on the last day. Whether or not you liked the game, it undeniably had one of the best developing teams behind it that listened to what the players wanted in their games, actually communicated with them through their forums, and they always made a quality product.

Also, another five dollars on the last song being American Pie by Don McLean. No idea what else it could be.

RBN won't stop, so unless Microsoft decides to group new releases the same way Sony does, it'll continue to "clog up" the new add-ons section that usually doesn't update for other games on days other than Tuesdays.

I think they just figured out that obtaining the licenses on songs is getting harder. At least for good songs. Lately the new selections have been a tad bit crappy. Hopefully, they will just stop releasing music every week in the end. I do hope for some carryover if there is a rockband 4. I have been a midnight release follower since rock band 1.

Also sad with all these tracks, not one Soulfly song. Kept hoping one day. Guess there is a lot of different music people have been waiting for but wont be seeing. But thanks for your great support Harmonix and variety of music you have offered us.
