Destiny WIll Not be Released in 2013

Destiny was officially unveiled over the weekend with a slightly fact-light reveal. We had expected the game to launch this year, but apparently that’s not to be.

Activision has confirmed that Destiny is not included in the publisher’s “2013 outlook.” They’re pretty adamant about it too, adding “there should be no speculation or expectation of a different result”.

So there you have it, no Destiny this year, either on current or next-gen systems. Have a look at the game’s debut Vidoc below.

  • I didn't realise that activision were the publishers of Destiny. I may not get the game now or hold much hope for the quality of any sequals.
  • I figured this would happen. This could make a awesome launch title for next gen systems.
  • At least that means it'll most likely be next-gen title, which will hopefully give us a bigger and better game than what they would be able to do with current-gen specs.
  • Make it next gen, make it awesome.
  • Destiny is listed as being a 360 game but then again who knows whether or not this could be released as a launch title for the new console. Still not too comfortable with activision being the developer but oh well the game looks promising.
  • More time for me to gather up and unload my savings on the next gen console then. Destiny will probably be one of the first titles I buy, along with Watchdogs.
  • @1 still I don't think it's going to be shitty, Bungie is making it, not treyarch.
  • I'm glad it's not gonna be released this year, it gives Bungie even longer to develop the game and make it even better. Maybe Activision could learn from a not-rushed release...?
  • @1 Dude, we are talking about Bungie here. They're a independent studio and would never let Activision push them around. Bungie is never ever going to make Destiny Activision's ``new`` Call of Duty RPG game. Activision is only the publisher nothing else.
  • @1 What kind of retarded logic is that?
  • It is being released for PS3, Xbox 360, and "future generation consoles."
  • @1 Normally, I'd agree with you, but Activision is just the publisher this time around, they don't own Bungie or the Destiny IP. Really looking forward to this, whenever it's ready I'll be ready.
  • @5 Bungie is developing and Activision is publishing. Learn to read.
  • So there will be the new awesome version and the shitty olde version.
  • Yay I really hope for next-gen launch title... :/
  • Like what Halo did for the original Xbox, Destiny will do the same for the next gen consoles. Can't wait!
  • http://www.thetechgame.com/News/sid=4118/bungies-destiny-to-require-a-permanent-online-connection.html ^This was cornfirmed by TGG. Apparently the game will require a permanent internet connection to play, as it has several MMO elements. Could be interesting.
  • Translation: "No, we're too busy prepping CoD:MW4 for before next-gen, and then CoD:BO3 for next-gen launch"
  • "how can anything be bigger than Halo?" smug bastard
  • @18 I'm still holding out for a 2013 next-gen Xbox release. 2 more years just isn't gonna cut it for me. Whichever company gets their console out first (Sony or Microsoft) will be getting all of my business next-gen. Tired of waiting lol.
  • Who the hell thought it would launch this year!?!!?
  • Fiscal 2013, or calendar 2013?
  • Well that's okay I guess. Even though the concept art looks awesome, I've heard that the preview journalists were given was very brief, with a sort of tech demo being the only gameplay. And maybe this will be my next-gen motivator?
  • @19 Name one game that is more recognized as changing an entire genre of gaming besides Halo it redefined shooters and pretty much made competitive gaming mainstream.
  • @24 no buddy that was counter-strike that did that
  • Ahhhh, the waiting. The waiting!! *sob*
  • Now if they had the same "no chance" attitude for COD I'd be very happy.
  • @24 CoD 4, nearly every fps since including HALO 4 has copied the CoD 4 formula OT: hadnt took much notice of this til I saw that video, definitely going to keep my eyes on this now it looks and sounds very promising
  • @24 doom, goldeneye, halflife and cod 4 all come to mind knew it wouldn't release this year, just hope acti dont pressure bungie seen as there supposed to be releasing a main game every other year, with an expansion for each game between years, seems like alot to me unless the expansions afe around as large as say 3 dlc's
  • This would be a great next gen launch title. I can see it happening.
  • @1 Logic Level: 0 Publisher does not make the game. It only funds it. Geez that's way to hard for people :/ So I guess that confirms next gen...
  • Make sense if Activision release Destiny in next year or two then CoD will ave some years break and let Destiny continue selling like crazy just like Halo, CoD and others. :) I thinking Activision want Destiny selling madness in next generation and let CoD break for some years. Maybe? :/ I keep my eyes on Bungie's Destiny. :)
  • I do hope CoD take some years break. :D
  • This is good news. This, Fallout 4, and Rainbow 6 Patriots will be great next-gen games.
  • #34 Yeah I do look forward Fallout 4 and RS 6: Patriots way more then Destiny in my opinion but it is begin of next generation consoles seem much better then what Xbox 360 and PS3 did with their launched and launch windows. :)
  • @34 Don't forget Watch Dogs.
  • Well that sucks, hopefully spring 2014.
  • @1 ... your an idiot.
  • Day one.
  • @38 *You're I love correcting that statement so much.
  • Next gen can suck my left one.
  • Kinda saw that coming - big game for next gen launch (makes sense). I'm just hoping we continue to get the vidocs from bungie. :)
  • This is an MMO. This is a Ten(10) year deal with Activision. They plan on having expansion packs every other year and every other odd year dlc content. Definitely next gen. I'll make my mind up when I see some actual game play. Looks good though.
  • Before the event I was thinking it was a shoe-in for 2013, but yeah after looking at it it was pretty obvious it wasn't gonna be hitting until next year.
  • looks like it will have 3d support
  • if this game is really next gen (along with watch dogs), I can defiantly see the two make a big impact on what is to come for next gen
  • @40 You're a fag.
  • *sigh* once again.. a gamer(#1) that doesn't understand the difference between publisher and developer... Doom began the online multiplayer craze and the grandfather of the term "Deathmatch".. but Quake('96) deathmatching made the "online multiplayer deathmatch" type of game famous. Quake was the first to have tournaments, and real life prizes such as John Carmacks own Ferrari So 24, 25, and 28... your answer is Quake... I left alot out but thats a great refresher... Also remember noobs... Publishers dont make games, they are the money, and they publish/mass produce them. Developers make games.
  • I'm not surprised we probably won't see Destiny on the 360. Based on what I've read and what little Bungie has shown us, it will need the power and technology a new console will bring to fully realize what they have in mind. With that said, whenever it does come out, I can' wait!
