Bad Company's Conquest Mode Imminent Written Tuesday, August 05, 2008 by Dan Webb We just received word from EA that the long awaited Bad Company mode; Conquest, will be available as a free download on Thursday 7th of this month. For too long have we attacked and defended those pesky gold stashes, it was about time that the Conquest mode dropped. Conquest, the mode made famous by Battlefield 1942, pits players against each other in a battle for the tickets. "Players deplete their opponent’s tickets by one point per kill and can cause their opponents tickets to spiral downwards by capturing control points." The Conquest gametype will currently only be available on 4 pre-existing maps that were available for online play with the Gold Rush gametype. Seems like a long time to wait for a mode that only supports 4 maps? Oh well, looks like we could be back on Gold Rush in a matter of weeks. | |

Battlefield games have ALWAYS only included 1 gamemode, and that was Conquest. Now they gave us a new gamemode, that forces the action to be centered around hotspots on the map (the goldcrates) making the game much more focused. I applaud them for it. But people didn't like the ommission of Conquest, and now they are bringing it back, FOR FREE |

The reason for only using 4 pre-existing maps is due to the need for them to get it out there. Trust me, there will be maps specifically for it or added for both modes, just give them time. |

I had an opportunity to pick this game, but was reluctant because of the gold rush game mode. I felt that it was a mediocre game and that it deserves to be picked up when its around 25 dollars. I might do this also for Mercs 2 because it seems like a waste of money to buy games retail these days when the content of the game doesn't meet the standards of a retail price. I believe SoulCalibur 4 was a good purchase for 60 because it has so many things to do in that game like create your own character. It all depends on the game type and how the person likes it. |

I got this from gamefly when it came out and still haven't sent it back, because rather than have superficial depth with CoD4 (memorizing the angles) they actually allow for different experiences every time with the broad, open maps. CoD did some things better than battlefield, but continuing to support the multiplayer wasn't one. Your perks and deathmatch are still there. I would rather have 4 maps done well than 16 with half that no one likes. |

I suppose it's a little different with the 360 being dedicated to online play but developers aren't obligated to include multiplayer just because we have gotten used to it. In fact I think that a lot of times games get rushed because developers scramble to get some kind of MP netcode working out of pure consumer expectation. Hopefully the redesigned maps will be able to maintain that level of chaos. And to all the bitches whining about "z0mg this shoul haf come wit teh game already WTF?!?!" it wasn't going to be in the game at all. DICE redesigned the maps and are releasing it for free because they actually listen to player feedback. I'm looking forward to a long support cycle and future downloads for this game. |
