Good News! I love 343 and all they do for the community.Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 10:26 AM
Maybe P2P connections or be able to run your own server? Anyway good news for those still needing the chevos!Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 10:26 AM
holy sweet hell that petition worked....Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 10:27 AM
I didn´t play it on PC, should do it now to get atleast the achievements before servers will close, sadly. But it´s 2007 game on PC, aren´t there dedicated servers?!Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 10:29 AM
Wow, maybe I'll fire the game up and start playing online!!Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 10:33 AM
@GeneralGranko Yes there is. Users can set up their own servers or just play P2P. They were going to shut down support to browse for those servers, and there's no other way to connect to them.Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 10:35 AM
I have this game for PC. If anyone needs someone to play with add me. I need all of the online achievments still. More than willing to stay around and help others after im done. GT: ThphlstrThursday, February 14, 2013 @ 10:38 AM
Ditto.. colderclimateThursday, February 14, 2013 @ 10:38 AM
@6 Wow that´s just retarded, I´m sure that if people will really want, then the game will be cracked and people will be able to make their own servers and stuff, but that´s probably not going to happen if community is dead, sad...Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 10:43 AM
One day this will happen to all your favourite multiplayer games. :,( Whatever happened to bots huh? GOW3 has them and they're pretty cool. Not as good as the most average player but still okay. At least you can still play the game once all the real people are gone or you just want an offline game.Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 10:54 AM
@10 Nothing happened to bots aka they are not in most games and they never were, only few games have them, really just minimum of them.Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 11:37 AM
Wish they never shut them down for XBOX. Douchebags.Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 11:51 AM
Wonder when they're just going to come out and say "LOL OKAY, WE'RE MAKING HALO 2 ANNIVERSARY EDITION"Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 12:01 PM
Would like to get this for PC, but I'm hearing it's very faulty when it comes to installing the game and playing it.Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 12:48 PM
I don't play this game, but, for the sake of those that still do, however many there may be, I wish you the best of luck in 343's search for new solutions. With the way EA cockslaps their online fanbase on a yearly basis, seeing a company take steps like this to attempt to retain online servers for a six-year-old game really brings a smile to my face. Good luck to the lot of you!Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 12:51 PM
@2, 10 you can create your own server, in fact every server is a user created one can also do p2p, problem is the one there shutting down is the master one that allows you to find the other servers all in one place, why are they doing this, well because the game is dead online if the number of people online reaches 20 at any time i'b be shocked and probebly no more than 200 people a day, ea closes games down when they have like 100 times that number :DThursday, February 14, 2013 @ 01:04 PM
There is a mistake in the link to the old article. It says February 5th not 15th.Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 01:12 PM
Good News! I'm one of the few still playing this. @13 if they made a Halo 2: Anniversary they'd probably fuck it up and put the MP in a halo 4 map pack like they did with CE and Reach :(Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 01:27 PM
I say bring back the Xbox servers.Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 01:58 PM
Every time I went online in last 4 weeks been more than 20!!!! More like 60-80ppl minimum. Atleast 20+ servers either full or half popThursday, February 14, 2013 @ 02:34 PM
@18 Maybe they would do it RIGHT this time... And maybe they are pushing the date back so that they can release halo 2 anniversary just as the servers for the PC are done in... Unfortunately that will never happen.Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 05:08 PM
Hopefully the servers may even stay up longer than June if they're investigating 'further support options'. Glad to see that 343 are trying so hard to please the community and the Halo fans, I'm doubtful we'd ever see this kind of server life extension from EA for any of their games..Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 07:06 PM
Take the fucking thing down and let it die already.Thursday, February 14, 2013 @ 08:22 PM
You ingrate piece of shit, yeah everyone has their own opinion but you come on a positive Halo 2 PC news thread and just comment your ass hole opinions and you're just being a dick about it,you obviously never played Halo 2 at all if you're saying shit like that, this is a straight up classic game just like the 1st one,go back your shitty trendy games ass hole and stay off these threads if you're just going to say hateful things like thatThursday, February 14, 2013 @ 08:24 PM
for everyone wondering about the so called "faulty instal" its not actually faulty you just need to also instal Games for windows live client off xbox.com.. that insantly fixed it for me.. on several differnt pcs i installed it onThursday, February 14, 2013 @ 08:34 PM
Funny... I boosted like a mofo because I found out they were gonna shut the servers down and I wanted my chevos before I couldn't get them... Now they are telling me I would have had 4 more months to get them... Oh well, on the brightside I got all the MP ones :DThursday, February 14, 2013 @ 10:44 PM
I think they should make the game FREE-TO-PLAY, like Halo 1's multiplayer was, although it was only Blood GulchFriday, February 15, 2013 @ 12:37 AM
So they kill off Halo 2 just to turn around the very next week and announce Halo 2 Anniversary.Friday, February 15, 2013 @ 12:55 AM
Well, If I want to go play some hyper laggy Halo 2 with hackers from Columbia cool.Friday, February 15, 2013 @ 02:04 AM
@29, the games are rarely laggy for me, and hackers get booted and banned from servers, so I'm not sure if you've actually played Halo 2 PC online or not. Anyway, I just got the final achievement tonight(Scarab Gun), so I don't have to worry about the servers shutting off anymore. I'm glad thy extended them though. The game is still much more fun to play than Reach or 4, so I'll still play it from time to time. Hopefully by June they will let people host their own servers after the shutdown.Friday, February 15, 2013 @ 02:05 AM
You don't need a gold account to play Halo 2.Friday, February 15, 2013 @ 03:35 AM
This is possibly the best news I've heard all night. Now I just need to: A) fix my computer so Halo will run without giving me an error saying it can't run or B) get a new computer to play it on.

Server support for Halo 2 is to continue until June 2013, until such time as 343 Industries looks at further support options.
It had previously been announced that Halo 2’s PC multiplayer servers would be shut down on February 5th. However, it seems the game has had a last minute reprieve with 343 Industries announcing an extension.
“Halo 2 PC support extended through June 2013 while we investigate further support options. Now go get those achievements,” tweeted the 343 designer David Ellis.
So there you have it. Looks like there’s life in the old dog yet.
