Braid Warps On XBLA This Wednesday

Braid Warps On XBLA This Wednesday
Written Monday, August 04, 2008 by Jason Debelyak

Braid, the time manipulating platformer from Number None Inc. and Jonathan Blow, will be making its way to the XBLA this Wednesday.  We've heard rumors that the game will cost a whopping 1200 MSP ($15) for a couple weeks now, but Microsoft squashed the rumors by saying that official prices won't be announced until the week of the release date.

Well, the 1200 price point was correct, and will join the ranks of some of the most expensive games on the Arcade.  However, it's also one of the most creative games to join the XBLA lineup, and one of the few that may warrant the high price tag.  I know quite a few of us here at X360A, including myself, absolutely can't wait for this title, so don't let the high price tag make the decision for you.

Now we'll just have to wait to see if the enormous 1800 point ($22.50) price tag for Castle Crashers is correct.  Hopefully it'll be a bit lower, although even if it remains at that price, I don't think it will deter any of us from purchasing it.

This also marks two weeks in a row without a double-release on the XBLA, unless they announce another game in the next couple days.  They're releasing some high calibur games right now, but the more games we have on XBLA the merrier.

wow this is getting out of hand with these high priced games, i wont even download the trial for this cause of this crap.. this is increasingly getting annoying, the best way to combat these rising prices is not not even look at these games.. i hope you guys are with me on this

Well I think it depends, I mean if there is a larger amount of content than in most XBL games, than I think the price is warranted. Like if it has a large number of levels and will provide more than the average amount of hours to an xbl game, than yeah I will seriously consider buying this. It's just if it only is going off the price based off the gameplay mechanic, well I hate to break it to them, but they are not the first to use time manipulation as a gameplay mechanic. We'll see, but does anyone know the price of Bionic Commando, because I will definitely be getting that one.

"... although even if it remains at that price, I don't think it will deter any of us from purchasing it." What a joke, who the hell pays you to write these up? Theres a LOT of people that wont make a purchase over 800 points. I hope all the games that charge more crash and burn.

The price is gooooddd... I will probably buy this... eventually since I want to wait and see what the Castle Crashers price is.

The games are getting expensive. But before everyone jumps on the judgement wagon. Just wait and see what the game is like, and how much content it offers. Like #3 says, it depends on the quantity of content within the game, and if it outdoes other XBL games, then it is a logical conclusion that the price also does.

I think if they want to charge more for Castle Crashers at least charge 1600 instead of 1800. That way people can use those prepaid 1600 point cards. But idk. I can't remember what the point packs on XBL are.

there are 100's of these games on xbla but personally i think 90% of them are very poor.quality rather than quantity microsoft...

I think I'd rather put the $15 to good use on a used game at GameStop. I may check it out if it ever gets the reduction as an Arcade Hit.

Some of these arcade games are really good and have more bang for your buck then retail games. So yes, they are worth the price that you pay for them. What #13 said is very true as well.

See, this is what gets me REALLY annoyed with the mentality of some people as far as games go now days.

People will pay 50 bucks or so for games like LOST, Stranglehold, Eragon and countless other games that have a lifespan of 5 hours at the absolute outside, and yet ask for 15 dollars for a game that could well give you 10-15 hours of playtime, at least, and they turn their noses up at it just because its an arcade game.

The other side of the oin now though is the play and discard mentality we all have. Play a game, get your points, trade it back in. You can't trade arcade games in so...screw em. That's basically what we have.

For what its worth, i think this game looks awesome, inventive, challenging, colorful and fun. The line "The princess is in another castle" appears in this

Sweenaldo has a point. It matters less whether the game is XBLA or on a disk than how much you get out of a game. Puzzle Quest was 1200, and it took about 50 hours to play through it. I've spent $50 and $60 on retail games that were much shorter and weren't anywhere near as much fun. I think we all have.
Admittedly, charging 1200 is going to make ppl pause, but the contest MS is running now will prolly make a lot of ppl download the trial regardless. If the game is as amazing as it's rumored to be, it will probably still sell extremely well.

ok my question is, if its such a great game, then why dont make it a retail game..

mabye because in many ways it does not add up to a retail game.(im not saying in actual content, the thing is , i dont look on the arcade for expensive games, i look for a few hours of fun, and a cheap alternative to the bigger better games... i also think that the people who pay 50-60 bucks for Lost or whatever are out of there mind, i only rent these type of games.. but some people really like these type of games and they buy them, there also good for kids (see all kids games) look at it this way, arcade games should not be super awesome games. they should be arcade games.. i dont spend 60 bucks for lost or any of these other crappy games. and im not spending 20 bucks on a decent arcade game. doesnt jus

The price made it so I will not be buying it. I wanted to get this game very, very badly but for that price I can't pull the trigger. For that price I could go buy a discounted full game like COD2 from Amazon. I will not be spending the amount for a game that will last a few hours tops with no replay value.

Thats taking the piss now!! The arcade games will soon cost as much as normal retail games! If the xbox wasnt as popular as it is, MS wouldnt make the games so expensive. For them to cost that much, i would expect more than a 200GS! A normal game is about £40 (1000GS) and castle-crashers will cost about half of that, so i would expect it to have about 500GS as standard. I begrudged getting Puzzle Quest for 1200...then it went down to 800!! So i doubt very much whether ill get any of these expensive games now.

Tuesday, August 05, 2008 @ 04:22:53 AM

seriously... I know this game is looking pretty nice right now and all but the asking price is a bit much. Either there needs to be at least 20+ hours of content in this bad boy, or lower the price immediately because if this kind of lack of price control continues, we'll have a million more Lumines priced games on our hands.

And I SERIOUSLY hope to the gaming lord in high heaven that 1800 points for Castle Crashers is ONLY a rumor! As much as I love their games, I cant see myself paying that much for a game with presumably just as much content as their previous XBLA effort. (which I love!)

According to The Behemoth official website, Castle Crashers costing 1800 MS points was only rumour supposedly started by the japanese official xbox website. According to them the final decision lies with Microsoft about the price but The Behemoth seemed to be hinting that it wont be 1800. Heres hoping anyways. 1200 max for me.

we consumers need to refuse to pay these prices...

what ever happened to 400 point games.

i understand these games may have taken a lot of time and effort, but 12-1800 points is just scandalous.

1200 is cheap--I don't see what all the fuss is about. If a game is stellar, and you truly love gaming, does the price of a couple of McDonald's extra value meals really prevent you from buying a game? I hope not.

Even if there isn't a lot of content, I'll still buy the game if I like the trial. I've bought WAY more expensive games for old consoles like the Sega Saturn that haven't lasted very long at all, but I have no regrets--those were some of the best games I've ever played.

Amen # 31. To # 21, you really wanted this game so bad and you can't come up with the extra 400 pts? Come on, you can't even get a meal for that much, and you really haven't got around to playing COD2 yet? Geesh...I am starting to think that everyone on this site are unemployed 14 year olds. BTW, the 400 pt games were for the most part trash.

The 400 point games were/are mostly ports and remakes.

It's hilarious that the XBL Arcade is getting some great content and people are crying over pocket change instead of supporting developers.

I don't see many people complaining about the absurd $60 price tag on every horrible movie tie-in and generic six-hour long shooter, yet people knock classic gameplay and original content and ideas valued at far less.

look, i've been waiting around 2 years now for castle crashers. it sucks it's rumored to be so expensive.. but if i'm gonna shell out any money, i'd def. do it for this. HELL.. i payed $20something for alien hominid on gamecube AND ps2... THEN ended up getting it on xbla when it came out.. i d/led all the pda packs for it as well.. i KNOW i won't be disappointed and am not gonna waste my time complaining about such an anticipated release (for me - and i'm really the only one i care about). alien hominid was super addictive and i still play it on the reg. i know i won't be let down by castle crashers and will have no problem shelling out the "points" for it.

actually, people do complain about the lame 60 dollar tie-in movie games. they complain not only about games being 60 dollars to begin with, but they complain that they are so crappy.

honestly, bitching about price inflation is nothing new. you would have to be a real hard head to not realize that more and more frequently companies have stopped trying to take proper price control practices under consideration. they dont really think about what the market can hold anymore and they just try to get as much as they can really. it started when consoles broke into the market as a major source of revenue and also when the PCs started to become more intuitive and versatile. no one knew how to price something like that. with these little games, its almost the same thing, but they are really push

ARGH AGAIN WITH HOW MUCH ACHIEVEMENTS MATTER!
They don't mean crap the are just things you look at!
Its the game that counts remember last gen when you bought games to play for fun not some points that give you excitement for .1 second!
I mean come on, this looks like an amazing game
just cause there is 200GS doesn't mean it is at all a bad game >_>
